Damn, that ending was kinda sad. But, in a good way.

I liked that they focused more on the friendship thing between Fate and Nanoha than on the evil mom in this anime.
The last episode was really nice ; )

Nice ending. It was interesting how they made use of the mealtime conversation to set the plot for the next 2 seasons. Now, on to A's.

At first I didn't want to see this series. It looked very childish and uninteresting, HOWEVER, everyone loved Fate so much that I decided to give it a chance.

It turned out to be much better than I expected, both Fate and Nanoha were good characters and the plot was OK, it did have a lot of childish themes, but at the same time it did have some serious and dramatic moments. 8/10 (now onto season 2)

Beautiful episode. In the end, I realized I liked this show enough to give it a 7, which on my scale, is something worth watching. The flashy and cute battle sequences, adorable main characters, perfect sound effects and music were enough to tip the scales in favor of the positive - opposed were the lack of plot in the beginning, few unnecessary occasions of fanservice and the childish element this anime sometimes had. On to the next season.

A bit slow at time for me, but I'd much rather a show take its time and have an epilogue compared to any of the dreadfully rushed ones. Plus it's very refreshing to see a show focus on the characters and their relationships rather than goals like collecting the jewels shards or on the magic and action. Very nice series. Very nice indeed. I'm gonna have to watch more stuff from this series.

What's with the slow motion moment of fate and nanoha at the beginning xD
Chrono-kun is so shy and yuuno is so jealous but what I love is how nanoha is always concerned about fate.

I never expected this anime to be this baddas.

There are some stuff.

- It has a bit more focus on Nanoha's friends and family
- Fate's personality is somewhat different in the series compared to the movie. She hided her emotions more. in the series. And she seems even more determined to grant her mothers wish, than in the movie. Even until the very end.

That's the majority of it. It's worth watching if you enjoyed the movie. Honestly, considering the movie was shy under 2hrs, and the series is about four hrs total...there is a lot missing. But it's mainly with the characters themselves. The series better portrays the characters, while the movie looks cooler while doing it.

That whole series started off rather boring and slow-paced (oh, how I hated those transforming scenes) but managed to get better each and every episode until it eventually turned around the clichéd mahou shoujo image. Really enjoyed it in the end. Though I still wonder how some nine years old can be that analytical as well as self-critical.

Just recently finished chugging down the last half of the series in one night. I feel like I should like the female characters more than the male ones, but I don't.

I was pretty disappointed that Nanoha and Precia didn't even come face to face. She just fights a bunch of robots and the end.

But this isn't the story of a hero saving the world. It's more like a love at first sight story disguised with subtext. Why else would Nanoha be so obsessed with a girl she just met?

My whole time watching, I completely forgot these were nine year olds, which worked better for my enjoyment.

I feel generous rating it a 6/10. I've been on a Mahou Shoujo kick lately, trying to experience some of the more beloved titles in the genre. This one really felt like Mahou Shoujo in name only.

Hmm. I thought it was good overall - worth a 7/10. The characters were good, the action was good (excepting the magical girl transformation scenes which I find get old real fast), and the villain a "good" villain. I also could have done without the fanservice, but it wasn't to much. My main problem is these 9 year olds sure didn't act like 9 year olds, but I didn't dwell on that to much.

I just finished it a few days ago and I'm halfway through Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's.

Overall, I thought it was a nice episode; It was a pretty good way to wrap things up, but it was so sad when Fate and Nanoha had to leave each other.

There were some parts of the show I found annoying, though; The ending was somewhat cheesy, and Nanoha and Fate resembled typical girls from other animes. I watched Madoka Magica before this, and they paralled Madoka and Homura.

That's incorrect actually. Madoka and Homura paralleled Nanoha and Fate, as Nanoha and Fate came years before Madoka Magica was even in the production process.

This is a good way to end. Nanoha meets with Fate one last time, then goes back to her normal life. In the meantime, they're clearly setting up for the second season. Overall, I liked the series and I can't wait to watch the more-heralded next season.

Really nice wrap-up to the series. The ribbon exchange was such a great scene.

Still lots of unanswered questions with Precia, Alicia and Yuuno but overall, it was a pretty good series. It never really felt too exciting or too boring either but kept itself at a smooth medium. It was not as dark as I thought I was but the plot twist was good and Nanoha and Fate are interesting characters. Some scenes had great animation but it wasn't consistent throughout.

What I loved most was probably the weapons. It was an amazing sight every time when Raising Heart or Bardiche opened their exhausts to exhale a gust of steam. It also added some spice when the weapons spoke English and transformed in to their many modes.

I can't express my love for the OP enough, it's amazing. Innocent Starter is a fantastic song. Shame about the ED, I hardly watched that until this final ep.

This series has great potential but I don't feel that it's been fully realised yet. 6/10. Onwards to season 2.

Either works, as the Movie is just a retelling of the first season, with a few stuff changed. And better pacing. And MUCH better animations.

While it was a pretty lovely ending I still couldn't directly find me liking this series completely, it had a good concept and some nice development but by the series rating which is rather high I personally can't find myself saying the same about the quality of the show.

All in all it's pretty decent but it could've been better by a lot! I am interested what the other season have to offer but for this first one it's a 6/10 for me.

The final episode is well done, if rather conventional in style, and it is a good resolution to the story. It leaves just enough of an opening for the series to continue. I plan to start watching the second season soon.

As a fan of Madoka Magica, I decided to search for some of the shows that might have influenced it or led to it, and Lyrical Nanoha seemed like a good choice. It deviates somewhat from the genre conventions without being a complete subversion, and it has unusually complex underlying themes. Overall, I enjoyed it and found it interesting, although it has some flaws that are difficult to ignore. Unnecessary and distracting fan service always causes me to drop the score of a series by a point; here, I find it particularly troublesome because the characters involved are so young, and if there had been more of it, I probably would have taken two or three more points off the score. Also, certain elements of the plot were a bit awkward, particularly the willingness of Nanoha's family to let her disappear for extended periods of time without worrying too much. I'm on the fence between 7 and 8 right now, so given the strong reviews for the second season, I have tentatively given it an 8, and perhaps that score will solidify as I see more of the series. (I don't ordinarily give different scores to each season; I prefer to treat the series as a whole.)

Despite my complaints, I find this series to be generally successful, and it is worthwhile in its own right, not just as a series to compare with Madoka Magica.

Exchanging and wearing each other's ribbons was so sweet. A simple farewell scene and it was so heartwarming, especially with Fate constantly saying "Nanoha." Sometimes the emotions will be worth more than any dialogue could have been.

I have to say this turned out to be a real treat. I was a bit skeptical when I first picked it up, but it really took on an unexpected turn of events. It seems like the popular opinion is that Fate is awesome and I definitely agree, her entrance is what really piqued my interest into how the rest of the show would unfold. I like how she developed from a girl desperate for mother's approval to someone who wanted to take her first steps forward towards making herself happy. I also like Nanoha's character in general, I just have a soft spot for those high energy, overly positive characters.

7.5/10, no doubt I'll be checking out the sequel in the near future.

Akiyuki Shinbo worked on the first season of Nanoha, he would expect people to be familiar with the series before watching Madoka.
Also, this series had a very distant source material, which is about Nanoha's family and their occupations. This too, is considered audience default knowledge by the scriptwriter and director.
