A fitting ending for a show that I only can describe as camp. They found a way to involve nearly the entire cast in the final battle in some meaningful way and somehow Tomino didn't kill any important characters.

However they left a ton of things unexplained or left half done: Gain's origin, the circumstances surrounding the death of Gainer's parents (yeah the ninja killed for oppposing the exodus but what else?) as well as the origin of the Overmen amongst others.

The comedy bits of the show were allright though, specially episode 17 and Gainer's 'confession'.

Only watched this because I played that Japanese game, where they mashed up all the mech shows that Sunrise worked on.

But yeah to many holes and unexplained plot lines and back ground stories.

Could have been better if it was a 52 episode series.

Very nice and simple show, definitely one if Tomino's best.

This show was weird, I basically hated most of the main characters and I didn't care one bit about the plight of the people on their Exodus, but it was still fun and addicting to watch. It had to be the pacing and the direction. Also, Cynthia's Overman was pretty cool.

For whatever reason they had Adette fall for the ninja and only gave best character Yassaba 4 episodes of screen time. This show would have been more bearable if those things didn't happen.

Overall, this was a lot of fun. I enjoyed the campiness of it, and also that it inverted a lot of tropes. It was a lot of Tomino-isms, but was still enjoyable. I still find it hilarious that this was based on the same series of novels that Snowpiercer was based on.

Is it really? I did not know that, lol. It has a completely different feel. I suppose Tomino's wackiness really changed it up a bit.

Well, I just looked it up again, and I fear that I misread part of the wiki. Overman King Gainer is inspired by a series of novels called La Compagnie des glace, published in France starting in 1980. Turns out the wikipedia page for the series of novels says this: "The setting of La compagnie des glaces also bears close similarity to that of the 1982 French comics series Le Transperceneige, adapted as the film Snowpiercer in 2013." When I first read it, I interpreted it as an adaptation of the original novel series, but it is a separate work.

I loved pretty everything about this. Characters were lovable and the plot, even if a bit messy, was engaging and rich of hilarious mecha action.
It's pretty amazing seeing a tv anime from the early 00s having such constantly great animation. Some episodes are particularly cutting edge, but the whole show looks so much better than its contemporaries; just think about how ugly was SEED most of the time, a main Gundam (!) series made in the same year and by the same studio.
Tomino may have lost the sales competition, but his show had heart and was overall a better artistic statement.

Really loved the first 2/3th of the show with the hyper campy tone, the unique setting, how the overarching plot was playing out and also liked all of the characters even the villain sides. But the last seven episodes were quite disappointing to me and were exact opposite of what made me attach to the show. But overall, I would say it was worth the watch for the positives and found them memorable.

Have to agree with the last comment above, the last 9 eps were pretty underwhelming.

I'd say this still felt Eva's influence, especially in the last episodes. Cool show overall

I also agree that the show kinda went over the rails from 19th episode onwards but at least it didn't end up with sour note. Overall it was fun series.
