Okay, so I just finished watching the movie and I think it was pretty entertaining.
I didn't was expected something great, also the art is kinda unique, I think not everyone will appreciate this kind of drawing, but well... I liked.

The character concept is cool I think, Steela is awesome:

Also, it provide some epic moments with great animation:

Like this one too:

And this is BEAUTIFUL moment:

An interesting art-style, but the story was just too... dumb and full of holes for me to actually appreciate. Up until the point where the
I would probably give it an 8/10 since I was enjoying it and the volleyball was fun. Everything thereafter with the whole "BELIEVE" spiel was just too stupid and I didn't enjoy the second half of the movie at all.

Meh. This and Welcome to the Space Show have something in common. Both are pretty, but also need a goddamn editor!

God the pacing was a drag, and the inconsistencies were laughable. I don't think even the visuals save it, because the character design is by the numbers, and everything this film tried, was overall done better in Mind Game.

Proof visuals don't mean shit if you can't give a flying fuck about the characters or the inchoherent story. Hell, Eraserhead was easier to follow!

This has some of the worst pacing I've ever seen in a film. Looks like they just adapted the chapters from the manga without ever wondering how it'd work as a two-hour film. I was sick to death of it before it was even halfway over.

The plot's a huge pile of nonsense and maybe that could work as a form of comedy but it's not all that funny and it actually takes itself pretty seriously.

Pretty rotten, really.

awesome show!

the animation is soo amazing and fluid!!

the volleyball scene is amazing!!!

all of the girls got their wishes except Rinne!

Cain and Abel!

Phantoma looks gorgeous when she was still a human!

Abel finally gave in!

poor Steela :(

Rinne and Mario!!

waa the seven deadly girls all in human form!!!

lovely Rinne!!

the pacing can be weird sometimes, you have a crying and sad scene, and the next minute everything is fine.

characters like Rei and Luca were kinda useless and only appeared towards the end with Mario.

speaking of Mario, Mario's voice actor Kiuchi, Hidenobu and Rinne's VA Fukuen, Misato were the main characters from Darker Than Black.

Hei and Yin!!!

Hei finally confessing his love to Yin?!?!? :D

funny thing is how both characters are silent in that anime, while here they're lively as hell!!! XD

i freaking knew that Ryu Kutou guy is the same voice actor as Noel Kreiss from Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Bat from Fist of the North Star Ken's Rage 2 :P

for some reason, some of the voice actors sounded like Romi Paku in the later scenes.

like Phantoma, she sounded like Romi Paku when she was speaking on the fountain.

Romi Paku already voiced Rinne's mother so what the hell O__O

Kiki sounded like Mai Nakahara at times!

love Koshimizu, Ami!!!

tbh, i thought Rinne's mother was the real Eva and that people only think of Rinne as Eva since she resembles her.

if she's not Eva, then why did she say in the beginning that his husband should protect Rinne?

could it be that "God" is his Husband?!?! XD

i laugh at "BAAAAAABY!" by Helvis!!

this story version of Adam and Eve, Abel vs Cain seems to be a more over the top style instead of closely based on the real work.

love this quote in the film :)

"Mankind Making Choices is precisely what life is about"

i would give this a 9/10 just because the animation is soo superb and awesome!!!

the artwork feels soo lively, reminds me of Tengen Toppa, FLCL, Dead Leaves at times.

will watch those in the future as well!

5camp's review sums it up well: The first 45 min. were really awesome - interesting characters with nice character development, an interesting setting in a creepy-cute-crazy style, very enjoyable!
But then it all turns into an stretched-out, boring 'how-to-live-your-life'-lesson, some of the interesting characters get declared as '7 sins' and basically loose their personality to suffice as metaphors for the weak lesson in psychology or whatever.

This could have been soo much better, it's really annoying. The different kind of art and character design was awesome, the beginning was as entertaining as 'Dead Leaves' and such, but then it just makes a big turn for the worse.

Well, not everything was bad in the second part, but it could have been told in a much better and interesting way. Very regrettable, since this one had great potential.

Pros: Beginning was great, great animation and art

Cons: Terrible directing, story, story development, nothing made real sense, terrible asspulls

I guess the cons overcame the pros...

Shame, because I really enjoyed it at the beginning... but then I was so bored at all the crap they threw at me... nonsensical.

4/10, shame, it had a great potential then it was ruined for me.

Should have been bit shorter Very cliched filled story but entertaining. The christian basis didn't end up bothering me (i hate when content of the bible is presented in positive light) because everything was so far from the bible.

One thing i like to add is that it was a shame that we didn't learn the backstories of the rest of the "sin characters"

Yeah I agree with others, the beginning is great, I like it’s initial premise, but I’d say once the adam and eve stuff is introduced it goes downhill. I’d wanted to watch it for years after seeing what it looked like. the visuals are incredible, from it’s art style to character designs to animation, it’s some of the best I’ve seen. It’s the writing and pacing and, well, just about everything that isn’t the visuals that suck. I plan to check out the T4S dub out of curiosity but sadly I won’t be buying the blu ray.

Such a good anime shrouded by lots of mystery.

I'm glad they decided particularly Linne to rebuild hell for studying to be a better person and reincarnate well, all in Steela's memory. I'm glad Linne met her friend's reincarnations especially Steela's, I really loved that character no gimmick.

Overall I liked the art and the story was never boring with those big reveals, I'm also glad Abel made up with his brother and friends.

8/10.

Mindless fun (usually). Great style for peculiar animation sequences.
Too compressed for its own good, the middle part looks like you breeze through it when it should be more important. Lack of transitions.

As a fan of Hiromoto Sinichi's work, I really love how well they captured his art style in this movie.
That's definitely the high point of this film for me, the impressive art and animation. It had so much energy to it, and you can tell a whole lot of love was put into it.

The part that I didn't like was the pacing and scriptwriting. I didn't mind the beginning, as it was silly and goofy fun, and I even didn't mind when they went into the biblical references, but after that point the plot just became overly convoluted and pretentious.
I think I understand what the film was trying to portray, abut believing in human nature, but the way it got that message across just seemed too heavy-handed and it kind of diminished things a bit for me...

Still, the art, animation, soundtrack, voice acting... they're all top-notch. While the story very much makes it a 6/10, the rest of the elements propel it up to an 8/10.

Beautiful movie, 30 minutes longer than it should've. Insane art style and animation that you barely see nowadays. An interesting story indeed. Hope it was more known and acclaimed. The ending is what I loved the most, came full circle and brought a bright smile to my face together with a small teardrop. Will probably rewatch in the future to see what else I can get out of it in the time to come.

I can't count the amount of time my eyes shifted over to the clock and I thought "THERE'S STILL THAT MUCH LEFT". This movie would not end. I'll be honest, for a period I thought I was going to like the movie more once it shifted into the Cain/Able plot since it felt there was a clear direction rather than the weird episodic stories feeling the first act gave me. Though I was worried when it was starting to go down and I looked over the clock to see at least an hour was left. It feels like they adapted random segments from the first two acts then then the final act in it's entirety. Obviously don't know if that's the case, but I'm interested in checking the manga. There were several moments I thought to myself, this might have worked if this aspect was stronger developed, stuff like the bond between Mario and Abel and especially Rinne/Steela.

But anyway, I don't mind the cheesy and overly sentimental thematic crux of the film being about the power self-belief. And I kind of appreciate how words of hope became literal attack forms since the over-the-top presentation mitigates the cheesiness. Like, if the movie's hamming it up, it's easier to just go with the flow than roll your eyes, it was a more palatable decision. The problem is that they hammer this theme over and over for the majority of the run time. I can understand that maybe it's meant to emphasis how important it is to not give up by constantly having the character lose self-confidence or whatever, but come on, we all got the message. They made it perfectly clear when Rinne returned from nothing bringing back everyone. We didn't need pretty much the entire desert segment. Like the horror monsters designs of FemFemto and the like were great, and while Steela's relationship with Rinne didn't really feel like it earned the weight it was given, I did like the line Rinne had after her sacrifice, this is paraphrased, "You wanted to save everyone right? Well you failed, because you're part of everyone, right Steela?". I think it's a pretty powerful line on it's own, but it tied in nicely with Steela's existence as "nothing" prior to Rinne. So kudos for that, the rest of this felt like it was wasting my time repeating itself.

And yeah, like Collins mentioned not have Mario graduated and shown in the ending is a problem because the movie spent most of it's screentime in the last act on Mario. I'm sure Rinne had the most screentime overall, but Mario couldn't have been lagging that far behind once the plot shifted gears, so it felt kind of wrong that he wasn't shown at the ending but that's not the real issue. Mario wasn't dead. Why the hell did Helvis still require him to graduate (I assume it was him since he was the one that announced Rinne graduated)? Having a school to train people for their next life makes sense but Mario is still on *this* life, keeping him there is bs.

So did I like anyone of this. Well the ED song is jam. That's it.

Okay that's a lie, like everyone else I came here for the art style. And yeah, the art style was pretty great, though I didn't always love it in motion, it felt very cheap at points though there were certainly several great cuts of animation, the OP features one of my favourites. But the art styles had some great moments in it, and there's plenty of great character designs here. Obviously Steela is my favourite design in the series, really wish she got more screentime. I also really loved Phantoma's, or FemFemto's design. Minnie Mouse's was neat and the Pandaz were great as well. I wasn't a fan of every design, Kiki's is pretty weak, as were just about all the other Seven Deadly Sin girls that were important enough to get any kind of character arc.

Beyond that, I had some fun with this. Some of the earlier segments had some fun moments, like when FemFemto kicked the dodgeball girl down and told her to "Eat ground bitch" or something to that effect. And I like what they were going for and found some of the scenes effective. The aforementioned line from Rinne and the ending shot with Steela watching over Rinne in the real world. Those would've held more power if their relationship got more focus, but those are still well-composed pieces. I enjoyed FemFemto's little character arc, favourite character fwiw, and had the movie ended towards after Rinne resurrected anyone, I probably would've liked it a lot longer since it would've cut out the ball throwing and the desert segments which only reiterate it's point. Even the ball-throwing only wasn't too awful but why did it keep going after that? I get wanting Steela to sacrifice herself, but they didn't need to dedicate that much time after Rinne's resurrection moment to get to that point. Could've just started the ball segment then immediately combine it with the self-doubt segment as nobody in Hell believed they could make the shot (aside from Rinne of course), would've at least cut a good chunk of the repetition out.

Giving this a 4/10, though a 3/10 is tempting. But the unique art-style salvages to a four for me, since it wasn't just visually different but visually competent. The sketchy shading styling in certain scenes made for a really effective effect that I appreciated throughout the movie.

Linne's design felt like a mix between the styles of Shintaro Kago and Dowman Sayman :o

That looped animation after Linne's encounter with the boy at the beginning reminded me of Diebuster OP!

I thought Gillealla wanted panties but she just ended up wishing for bigger boobs? xD

There was a brief shot of Mario "noticing" something near the end (after Stealer's sacrifice) but I didn't get what.

Eun Young Choi (Science Saru producer) was credited for key animation O_o What a nice surprise.

Other "sins" should've gotten more screentime, I think. But we got only a bit of Kiki and some Phantoma. Overall I enjoyed this though, tempted to check out Hiromoto's various manga.

And here are people complaining that it's instead too long. Huh. Well, maybe the "1st part" could've been longer, making the final stand-off shorter.

P.S. I suddenly remembered Angel Beats

P.P.S. So Linne's mom retained her memories of Hell but she didn't?

Personally not a fan of the whole thing especially the second half of the movie (thought they could've trimmed it down a bit, 2 hours is very long for what it is imo) but I'm surprised this has such a low score and isn't more cult popular honestly. It seemed like something anime hipsters would love from its stylistic approach alone. Reminds me of Tim Burton and Soul Eater's art direction which leaves a strong lasting impression on the viewers. Overall, just a very trippy and whimsical movie with a striking and visually-interesting artstyle and biblical references thrown around cause why not. 6/10

Dripping with style. If there's a name for this aesthetic I'd love to know. Confusing at times but never knew where it was gonna go next.

It feels oddly indie so I was surprised to see madhouse on the credits
