I thought it would be fun to have a discussion about the anime and manga Full Moon wo Sagashite. There are plenty of differences between the two, after all, and I'm sure you guys have some opinions about all that! So, have at it, but remember to keep it friendly. No flaming or bashing. And yes, this thread WILL contain spoilers. You have been warned! Anyway. Personally, I like both almost equally. If forced to, I think I would choose the anime, simply because I liked the fact that Mitsuki didn't know about Eichi's death. Yes, it was very interesting for her to be in denial in the manga... but her character changed so much that it was slightly unpleasant. I'm all for character development and change, but that was just a tad too drastic for my tastes. I give Tanemura-sensei props for doing it, most certainly, and I still enjoyed the manga greatly, however. Seriously, the anime wins by very, very little. I do like the art much better in the manga than in the anime. Tanemura-sensei has a beautiful style. In all honesty, I think the manga and anime go best together. After all, in the manga you get to learn about Meroko and Izumi's pasts. That was a big disappointment in the anime, but, since I HAD read the manga, it was overlooked. Plus, in the anime, we get to hear all the music. FMwS has one of the best anime soundtracks, IMHO. It's wonderful to listen to! Um... that's about all I can think of right now. In short, both have their pros and cons, and both are wonderful. So, now let's hear what you guys think! Have at it! :D |

I see where you're coming from, Ria. They would work well together, if you have the music and the manga together. Actually, that's what I kinda' did for the last volume. xD; For me, the manga was much better. In the anime, it was good...but there were many filler eppies and it just got a little annoying. Though I really do love the music. And it's nice to see the characters animated once in a while. But the manga's plot, in my opinion, was much stronger and much more emotional. And the art is gorgeous. I love the manga drawings and everything. And then for the last book, I was playing Full Moon music nonstop. And it went really well lolz. So for me, it's the manga. ^^ |

Right now I can not say. I have only seen the anime but I do wish to read the manga. (does anyone know where I can download the manga?) From what I'm hearing from many sources the manga is just as good as the anime which makes me want to the manga even more! X3 I really liked the anime alot though, it even made me cry when Mitsuki found out about Eichi's death. It's just an absolutly beautiful story to reach ones dream even though many difficulties happen. |

I like the manga a lot better. The anime's nice, but it has too much filler and cuts out a lot of the cool stuff from the manga. No human Izumi and Meroko, no Sheldan and Mystere, and most of all, no Izumi/Meroko love! (That last one has me torn up inside.) Although the anime has its moments, the manga wins overall. |

I'd say the Manga, the anime has some fantastic music and really nice voice acting, but its toned down on the darkness of the manga, like Takuto's death and Meroko seems to be more evil in the manga version. |

I prefer the Anime. I just can't understand what's the "fun" in reading a story about music. It's like reading Nodame Cantabile... it's no fun if you don't actually hear the music. <-- But this is the smallest of my reasons. I love hearing each character's voice. Japanese voice actors are very expressive. It's really moving. Takuto's dreamy voice just helped me like him more. I thought the manga was "darker" compaired to the anime. Not that I prefer the "PG" version of things... but what REALLY captivated me in the story was Mitsuki's inner strength. Her awesome ability to go on no matter what. And the anime reflected that better. -- Plus, I honestly didn't specially like Meroko or Izumi... so knowing more about their story would be meaningless to me. To me they were «average» characters. But yes... the characters looked much better visually in the manga. The anime could have been MUCH better if it had different/better animation and more detailed characters. I honestly could do without all those bright colours... they kind of remind me of Doraemon. LOL |

The manga was by far, the better story. I'm sure you think "why would I want to READ a story about music?" If you love full moon as much as I do, you know that it's not about music, so much as it is about the lyrics and the journey of mitsuki persuing her dream to brighten the hearts of people with her music. Mitsuki doesn't play any music, she sings lyrics from her soul. She writes all her own songs that just happen to go along well with music. I was actually a really big fan of Meroko and Izumi. I would read the IzuxMero scenes over and over in my manga, it's what got me so interested in the series in the first place. When I found out Izumi was all but cut out of the series, I was pretty mad, but when I found out he was NOTHING more than an antagonist, it drove me crazy. Izumi was mitsuki's friend. Izumi lived with them. Jonathan WAS the ending, that thing with Jonathan at the end of the manga was brillant. Even Jona-chi fell in love and had a happy ending. Everybody had somebody to be with and and be in love with the the manga, in the anime... what? Only takuto and mitsuki got together. (and that was only assuming they got together.there was no proof.) The manga, all the way. |

Tiamat said: Anime... (random spoiler button) I think it's cool to have the music around, and like you said Ria, the denial. I'm up to half of volume 2 of the manga, and it covers all the eps. of Full Moon that I've seen, which is, for me, going way to fast. But yes, the art of the manga is wonderful. I love to read 'Detective Conan', and if anyone else does, compare the art. It's a nice change for the dark shadings. going way to fast? No way, the manga was made first. It was going at a good pace but the anime spread it way too far out, the anime was 99% fillers. |

The manga was definetly better. Yes i do like the anime very much, but the manga beats it. First of all it's the beautiful art style in the manga compared to the okay animated characters. Then we have the strong, sad and beautiful story in the manga with proper background for other characters than just Takuto and Mitsuki, compared to all the fillers (even though I enjoyed them, I really would have liked less of it). The anime's storyline takes a whole different turn from the manga. I did like both stories, but the manga was much better overall. The pluspoints with the anime are of course the songs. We have the nice eternal snow, (which I fell in love with the first time i heard it) and myself and other song. I would have liked to hear the songs from the manga though. (the mermaid princess and the one in vol. 4 or 5) |

Teetlepie, I know what you mean about re-reading scenes. I'm sure all of us have done it, but you're the first I've read to say it. I would re-read Takuto and Mitsuki scenes OVER and over again!! Especially the ending! ^_^ True, you can't hear the music, but you look at all the pictures and can feel the music inside. Ya know? |

In short, both have their pros and cons, and both are wonderful. So, now let's hear what you guys think! Have at it! :D I so agree with you Ria. I love both the manga and anime equally because I like some points of the anime better then the other and vice-versa Manga Points 1. The true Izumi: For one thing I love how they protrayed Izumi in the manga. The anime on top that they left his past out they mad him look like a heartless villain, when not once implying that he's a tramatized teen.Plus he turns more into a puppy there, I hated that they never showed him that form in the anime except for the commercial breaks. 2.Meroko's past: Even though the anime protrayed Meroko's personailty well they left her past which really gave you a whole new visual on the character and not just the annoying girl in the anime. 3.Eichi's true death: I loved how the manga also gave more on Eichi unlike just the short memories of Mitsuki in the anime.Making him thus much less annoying, and giving truth to how Mitsuki can see shinigami.Plus it made him so much sweeter in the end when he willinginly left Mitsuki and Takuto together with tears in his eyes 4:More Wakaojji, Oshigii and Fuzuki : Besides that they explained that Ojji was the surgeoun of Takuto,He gets a bit of romance possibilty lol plus Fuzuki isn't just the hated grandmother anymore but a more important character. 5.Better Art: As always even if the anime isn't horrible either. 6. Johnathen: No longer just a ghost, but the leader 6.The ending I so love better even if the anime ending was teary,The manga ending was happier, more real and still teary Anime Points 1. Music : You could actually hear the beautiful Myco songs 2. You could take a break from reading and watch and laugh 3. Mitsuki not knowing: I love the change of how Mitsuki didn't know that Eichi was dead. That lead more of a drama and impact hitter when finding out.Plus I found it kind of annoying in the manga when she would ignore Takuto and still love Eichi even when she knew he was dead. 4.Rise to success : I liked that she didn't bomb in the music industry, but still struggled to keep her fame. Counting the points I love the manga plot better but still love watching the anime. |

I could hear mitsuki singing, you knew what happened behind the lyrics, and mitsuki sang like a 12 year old when she was 12, and a 16 year old when she was 16. BOTH!! They're both wonderful....for really different reasons.... Anime strengths *Mitsuki-she's more.....innocent...just so darn CUTE. She's a lot less obsessed with Eichi...when she found out he died, she didn't pretend he was alive like a little.....nutcase. XD She was just sad for a while...and then moved on. Like a NORMAL kid. *MitsukixTakuto's relationship-Takuto's a lot more sweet and mature in the anime with loving Mitsuki. His sacrifice of both his life and soul to save Mitsuki was so moving at the end.Mitsuki on the other hand...well I really liked how she initiated their "official" kiss in the anime series. She says nicer things to him than she does in the manga like "Full Moon is a dream that can't exist unless you and I are together". I really really adored that line. The anime adds more scenes of chemistry between the two. Their relationship in the anime has more...."heart" to it and it feels more pure and geniune. Because Takuto doesn't push his feelings onto Mitsuki even once, he's a lot kinder, and Mitsuki looked very sure of herself when she kisses him without questioning her feelings. In other words, MitsukixTakuto's love in the anime seems more convincing. *Meroko-I loved Meroko by the end of the anime....in the manga...it was very hard to like her at all until the last chapter. -.- *OoshigexWakaoujixMitsukixshinigami-Everyone's closer. It's so nice! They're like a family and it's cute....^.^ TakutoxMitsukixMeroko-This trio is too adorable for words *The music and seiyuu. Outstanding jobs. Nuff said. *Directing/atmosphere. When it's happy, it's such a "feel-good" show and when it's sad, it's such a tear-jerker!. The emotions of all the characters are captured SO well that all they have to do is zoom in on Takuto's shocked and hurt face to get me all worked-up and teary-eyed. >_< I half-hate and half-love this aspect. XD *The ending. I like it more here...it's not all picture-perfect where EVERYONE is happy. *Madoka-I gradually came to like her because she learned her lesson and turned into a civil human being. In the manga you don't see her change that much, it seems. *Eichi-The less of him, the better. Actually anime!Eichi doesn't make me want to stab him like the manga Eichi does. Anime Eichi's a nice "big-brother" type. Still bland but at least he's not a selfish little girl-kissing pedo ghost boy. XD Manga strengths *Gorgeous artwork....shinigami wearing human clothes more often...yeeeah! *More hugs and kisses makes Chiibi a happy happy fangirl. ^______^ *Takuto's definitely more physically romantic. And Mitsuki fangirls over him....WIN. *Meroko and Izumi's pasts....Izumi's character in general, really. *It's dark. I like dark manga just as much as happy ones. *If you hate Mary-Sues, Mitsuki sure does break the mold in volume 4...I mean...DAMN. XD; *Aoi's scenes. hehehehe *Takuto and Izumi's interactions are way more LOL. *Nachi. Nachi's HOTT. XD *Mystere and Sheldan. Are REALLY COOL! So yeah....how can you choose between all THOSE things!? Answer: You can't. |

Manga. No doubt about it. I forced my self to finish the anime because i thought it would be at least pretty good but....i don't know....it just didn't click for me-_- i gave it a 4 because it didn't really seem to have much of a plot to me. The manga on the other hand, Was FANTASTIC. the first volume was the first manga i ever bought^^ the fact that Mitsuki knew that "he" was dead, made it even more tragic TT^TT |

I like both stories... I've watched anime first. And now,I've just completed manga series. I was shocked.Really.When i found out that Mitsuki knew about Eichis death.I thought, this is just the end.So..my interest in this story totally decreased.I love dramas,so i thought that manga will include this moment. The scene from anime, when Mitsuki found out that Eichi is dead, made me cry everytime i see it.So..i didn't cry a lot when i was reading manga.XD But anyways, manga is the original story.. Also,i was a little sad, that in manga there was no drama between Mitsuki and Fuzuki(her grandmother). It was just so simple.. DRAMA...DO WANT! What i loved in manga, are the stories about the past of the characters. In anime,i didn't like Izumi..but in manga,i just loved how his personality was changing, and in the end we see that Izumi is very nice. Well..i cant write that much about what i liked in manga, because now i only see differences between anime and original story.. Oh.And in manga,i found Mitsuki a little annoying. With her 'Eichi i love you,i love you.'That was touching, but yet it was a little annoying..i wanted to open her eyes, and tell her 'Look,Takuto is the one you need!' And i love Takuto, both in anime and manga. This is the best series ever.Love it. |
