So a guy who relies on statistics tries the most statistically improbable strategy available? What awful writing.

When I was watching, I was thinking "No way. Is he aiming for a triple play?" I haven't even seen one yet in a game I am watching (except for those in youtube and archives). And then, "that happened." Wow. A triple play. Well, this is anime. Anything's possible.

I'll be glad to see Goro actually having to listen to a catcher for once, but I don't like the new guy and I have no illusions that their current relationship will continue. its practically guaranteed that Keane will join Goro's fan club by the end of the season.

btw, it wasn't that Keane was going for the triple, he just got super lucky. in point of fact, he wasn't expecting that ball to be hit at all.

That was entertaining, albeit a little Farfetch'd, but triple plays happen a few times a season.

Yeah I agree that triple wasn't what he was going for

well the new catcher thoroughly annoyed me. I don't like him. Although Goro does need to follow the catchers lead, there are better ways he could have gone about the situation. no one likes demands I'm sure if he asked nicely and let Goro have a say every now and then they could have worked something out. but by being an asshat he ruined that shit and I hope he doesn't form a battery with him at all.

Battery conflict.. that Keane is statistically good and he got super lucky with that Triple play (although impossible but still interesting). And I am already in Season 4 but it seems that I just realized that Goro is pitching mostly without a signal.

First good episode in awhile IMO; it's nice to finally have a decent antagonist that's fun to hate. The guy's a huge dick, but I gotta admit that triple play was really cool to watch.

Exactly this.
Didn't they also have the morale of the story for another previous episode (the one where Sata fails miserably in the practice game) that relying on statistics can lead to disastrous results? This is like the opposite of that episode.

Man, what a dangerous play. Of course, when the base are full, it raise the chance of a triple play, but it also raise the risk of allowing a point. I guess he must really not trust Goro at all to make that plan. The only way he could cancel that bet is if Kean get in the Major...

I also feel really bad for Sanders. He's probably in his few last years, if he ends them on the bench... That's an awful way to finish a career.

LMFAO. so you retards are complaining that a fictional show with fictional characters are doing things that are a little "unrealistic"? it's not like a triple play is impossible, and it's certainly not impossible for an exaggerated fictional character. an exaggerated fictional show with exaggerated fictional characters. it's all about the spectacle and entertainment, not about how realistic or "probable" it is.

I second this

God, when they decided the bet I paused the video and kept on repeating "Such a stupid bet, such a stupid bet, such a stupid bet"....

Eh. While it's true that Keane is a bit blunt, I don't think his insistence on Gorou following his directing was inappropriate at all. Gorou let his ego get the better of him. It was clear after the first hit that Keane knew what he was doing; Gorou should have followed his leading after seeing that instead of making that dumb bet, because now he won't be able to push it if there's a situation where he strongly disagrees with Keane.

For those wondering about statistics, I have two things to say: Firstly, Toshiya is making general calls based on his (very good) intuition; he's not memorizing statistics to the degree of knowing batting averages for certain pitches and under specific conditions. As such I'm confident that Keane is a much better catcher than Toshiya, and he probably won't have too much trouble moving up to the Majors after some time. Secondly, the triple play was a fluke. Keane wasn't expecting the ball to be hit at all in that situation, which demonstrates the limits of predicting based on statistics. You might be right most of the time, but even then you won't always be right. Further, a self-aware/analytical batter might discern their weak points being targeted and be able to use that to their advantage, even if they aren't a slugger.

What gets me is that Gorou was being uncooperative with Keane for petty reasons. It's not like he had a strong desire to face a batter Keane was calling balls for before the bet, for example. He was just butting egos, and now he's gone and completely shut off dialogue between them because of that dumb bet.

So yeah, I don't exactly like Keane's attitude, but I think more of the blame should fall on Gorou here.

I think catchers and pitchers that can't synergize personally will fall apart fairly quickly. If you personally don't like a teammate it will just be harder for you to play your best. Unless both of them get over their differences Sanders needs to catch for Goro

i really feel pity for sanders, though kaene is good or not, it's no fair for sandres that worked hard to get the team pump.
and kaene remind me too much toshi's strategy, goro as usual making stupid uproar, i hope kaene will be more likeable next episodes.

Diamond no ace is pretty realistic. Maybe besides certain character batting averages.

Ironic how Goro got mad at Keane for being a big-mouthed rookie considering he's the same, but I gotta admit Keane seems quite the ass.

A lot of people complaining about the "strategy of a triple out is absurd" when Kane wasn't trying to do that. I mean, people who are complaining about that were watching the same chapter? Because he says the big guy isn't gonna hit the ball.

Anyway, this show has... too many annoying people. In this chapter, Kane was annoying, but, to be fair, Goro was too.
