Holy crap! So, umm, what is this new brain anyways? Did the two personalities somehow fuse into one? And, umm, at the beginning of the episode, was the baron seriously on a flying snowboard? Man, this baron is going to turn out to be such a badass. Definitely the final enemy.

This is certainly a pretty unusual take on the "everyone gets a mid-season power-up" thing all the Tomino anime do, but I have to admit it works well here.
The mini-arc with Yuu and Nelly is very curt but expertly well-balanced, and it does manage to make her feel like a person rather than the myriad sacrificial girls in every other Gundam (especially Victory which is only four years before this). Her conversations with Yuu felt real, with this very human element of falibility to them, and the ice-skating Brains were a nice touch. I still think the scene of the two Brains merging into each other in the revival was yet another case of this show's beautiful imagery really hitting home, and it even seemed to give Johnathan pause for thought, which is nice. It does feel well-deserved though, what with Yuu's Brain getting cut up as he struggles to survive against the Baronz for the last couple of episodes and takes terrible damage. And it is tempered with a very bittersweet note, as Nelly's death is the first of any really sympathetic character in this show.
Also, despite trying his best to massacre everyone with the pimp-hand murder-tentacle Baronz, Johnathan is at least fully humanised in this episode, arguably more so than the show has any real necessity to... and the Baron, although the most standard "mysterious masked man" character thus far, does at least provide some suitably moody cloak blowing-in-wind shots.
Guess I picked a good time what with the start of winter to watch this episode, very atmospheric.
