| Koi's crush, or rather, the way it's surfacing, is kind of a parallel to Kazama's, with some differences. Kazama and Koi are similar in their skillset and they're both the girly girl to their respective best friend's tomboy, but they each fill the opposite role: Kazama used to rely on Sumika while Koi is the one being relied on by Mayu. Koi has been probably taking it for granted that Mayu always relies on her with everything. Now that Mayu has taken an interest in another girl, in a way that's not just admiration, she might feel left out, and that's how she's realizing that she might be more similar to Mayu than she thought. It's cute how she took such a big issue with Mayu getting worked up about Sumika. I guess she wants Mayu to get worked up about her instead of Sumika. I really liked that sequence of Koi walking home from Mayu's place. This manga is so cinematic. Mayu seems to be confused about what the tournament really means; she thinks if she wins in the tournament, she wins Sumika, too. She doesn't recognize the flaw in this logic yet. |
