| So, I now understand that Charles deserted and was summarily executed. This was awfully common during the Great War, but summary executions weren't standard; they'd usually court marshall deserters and then execute them by firing squad at dawn. Worst thing is that a lot of soldiers, particularly British, went AWOL by mistake and were considered deserters, and were promptly executed. Even 16-years-old kids were put to death. |
