| It was only a matter of time before Fleming was mentioned. Penicillin ushered in the era of antibiotics. Before its discovery, there was no effective treatment for infections such as pneumonia, gonorrhea, or rheumatic fever. Hospitals were filled with people with blood infections, contracted from a cut or scrape, and doctors could do little for them except wait and hope. Antibiotics are compounds that bacteria and fungi produce naturally, to kill or inhibit rival microbial species. This phenomenon has long been known, and may explain why the ancient Egyptians applied a poultice of moldy bread to infected wounds. But it was not until 1928 that Alexander Fleming, a professor of bacteriology at St. Mary's Hospital in London, discovered penicillin, the first true antibiotic. |
| I like to post in manga forum when I feel it is worth it, so people will think. "Shit, is her again" or something. People asked me where I read certain thing but the rules say no telling where did you read so maybe I am too boring for not saying? Or salty because you didn't check my profile that says don't ask because I hate people to ghost me after that. I love learning languages so maybe I did not read the manga in English. |
