The art and presentation of this story as the first chapter of Toryomun's collection of one-shots is very attractive and captivating, but I don't believe this was true love.

Realistically and clearly (portrayed throughout the story to me...) I believe this is delusional circumstantial love.
Sure, true love can then be formed later through this or remain oblivious to any other potential, but anyway.

In this story, When the Time Comes,
A young princess was romantically taught by her mother of an old costum where great love is expressed through interlocking pinkies with your loved one.
As a child, she asked what if she doesn't love her arranged partner which has already been decided... and her mother told her that she can save it for one she truly loves even if it isn't her arranged partner.

So, with that... Years later, now a teenager, she is suddenly kidnapped, yet "cared" by a man, most likely a slave, who's by the way, deaf, without a pinkie...

Throughout her fear from the first man who threatened her to death, even if she was solely used as fake proof to trade with her fingerprint initial, the only comfort while trying to survive and stay sane was the gentle caretaker who lead her to places and fed her, who she trusted and recognized through his missing pinkie of his left hand.
Which signifies being a murderer, who's meant to be in prison.

Yet... out of poor influence as a child of extraordinary love by sharing the similar form of locking fingers, through his "care" and grabbing his hand, she hopelessly fell in love.
While, later on, in future time after the kidnapping, her advisor rightfully calls her emotions for this man foolish even though he's uncertain if he did anything peculiar to her or that she actually fell in love with him, but he's right.

As she grows desperate of her future to live, while the vulnerable core is truly meant to mostly express herself, part of it is to have a savior in the caretaker...
So, when she's reached her limit, and remembers her mother's words of expressing one's true love even if it fails,
She confesses to the man, in hopes that they escape together, and that she accepts her feelings.

But she only later realizes that he's deaf, and didn't understand what she was saying while looking down scared, even though he could slightly read lips.

Thus, in the end.
Before they could potentially escape if he did understand her which isn't the case, or rather if he was simply continuing to carry his duty, she finally is saved.

After the man is finally revealed where she can see him without being blindfolded, as he leaves, she attempts to thank him, but stops herself.
Later after her arranged future husband appears worried, she shouts to the man leaving to reveal her feelings once more.

That she loves him, and that she'll never forget him...
Her husband thinks he's shouting that to him, and she cries out of regret to having failed to be one with that man as lovers, because he will be jailed, or possibly killed.

... Not bad. All very well done, but... it's immature inexperienced delusional love from a little girl, so it isn't great, even if it's somewhat oddly romantic. 6/10.
