I am simply BAFFLED at how both the art and storytelling have not improved a bit since the original series.

I can't help but compare it to other popular Nakayoshi titles that at least had good art in their original run and got better in remakes, or if still ongoing, after time (Tokyo Mew Mew, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Shugo Chara to name a few.) But Mermaid Melody is such a peculiar case. The characters look so stiff and disproportioned. And I could barely tell Lukia and her mother apart in the first few chapters--either Pink can't draw older women or she's just completely forgotten that Lucia is a woman in her 30s now. Also, what the actual fuck is up with this plot progression??? Why does everything that's happened seem so...satirical??? Cliche doesn't even begin to describe it. This is just juvenile, even by the standards of the demographic itself, to be honest.

And the sequel started serialization in 2021, for crying out loud! You'd think that after such a long period of time, and the abundance of inspirational, fresh shoujo content available, that the end product would be much more satisfactory. Have Nakayoshi readers really become so easy to please? Is this sequel even gaining any real popularity amongst the kiddies over in Japan or is it just out of nostalgia lmao?

Furthermore, I have nothing against Pink Hanamori. I respect her as a mangaka. But to put it in a more modern way: this ain't it, sis.

Where do I even begin, let's see

The story/plot is AWFUL, is feels like I'm reading a fanfiction done by a weeb. All previous characters haven't age a day and Lucia looks more like a sister than a mother next to her daughter.

Rukia mermaid form is a freaking copy paste of Lucia, I don't mean to disrespect Pink, but after all these years she couldn't come up with an original look for her?

Usagi and Chibiusa are mother and daughter and the two look completely different from each other

Also I don't see Hanon and Rina's lovers, don't tell me they broke up and are singles

Oh and why did they destroy Seira, why did they made her become a villain like her predecessor Sarah? It's utterly ridiculous to copy and past the same plot. She's is my favorite character and they RUINED HER!

And apparently there are Merman in this story, which is funny cause I remember that only the female can be merpeople.

Why are there Mermen in this story ? Were they created to destroy the world building of Mermaid Melody law/logic?

The answer is YES!

The romance feels force, too fast, too cliché and not the good kind, and TOO COPY PASTE!

And these new characters are PATHETIC, I don't like them at all they are so boring and feels like I'm watching a bad soap opera ment for children.

And last but not least why is Aqua Regina in this sequel? Last time I check, she resigned and chose Lucia to be the next Goddess/Guardien of the Mermaid Sea

THIS SEQUEL DESTROYS EVERYTHING THAT REPRESENTS MY LOVE FOR THE ORIGINAL MERMAID MELODY, AND I WILL NEVER ACKNOWLEDGE THIS SO CALLED SEQUEL AS CANON

considering that the crew that creates this manga and storyline is the same, i expect another mermaid melody cliche which is what i like when i was 8-9, but now that im 20 i dont find it entertaining anymore. yes i am nostalgic to this show but i dont think the 20 years later story is necessary at all, they could just create one special episode 20 yrs later all mermaids, lucia and kaito with their child bla bla and happy ending.
