Things are starting to get serious for the Ionodai skating team now, considering rival schools's prowesses from episodes past.

Unsurprisingly, Kuonji's status is more an idol rather than a skater, and their Yokohama Super Global team...be much better suited to idol work than a skate-leading team, as much as impressions go.

Himekawa trying to improve and wrestle with being the "one lead" to pull results for Kogahara, WELP. That's like Maeshima's motivation weeks back.

Prelims before the finals...yay. More like Himekawa vs. Kuonji for the "one lead" to earn a place for their respective schools before crashing and burning out.

As espected, Kuonji's team is trying A LOT to make their free skating program look like a typical idol performance (and that's pretty much their goal). This can be considered absurd by standard practices, but it's anime, so at least it's fictional. Still though, I see what Kuonji is trying to change the status quo of skate-leading, but honestly it doesn't resonate a lot to me, as "entertaining" as it could be.

As much as that was a showcase, I'm in disbelief that how this writing managed to be QC-ed, it's purely "high entertainment value" at best for characterization. Oh well...

Amazing episode, am glad they gave Kuonji's team a fairly full performance. Was fun to see the idol life brought to it and kept it within the rules, still, it seemed they sacrificed good performance for entertainment. Did love the kinda dancing while on the skates was fun, and the glowsticks.

Maeshima loving his merch is always fun.

Overall predictable outcome as it wouldn't have made sense to have all that build up between how Maeshima does things and Himekawa does things without them having some sort of showdown.

And along those lines, glad this show isn't spending time on the prelims that much and got us to the next round with still three or four episodes to go.

Good pacing.

I think its so cute how Maeshima gets so excited over souvenirs and toys from the gift shop! I'm like that myself so maybe that's why I find it so funny. Also, I didn't understand it fully but did that idol guy ask Maeshima to join in team again? After retracting his previous offer?

Well, this episode purposedly showing Kuonji and Himekawa last competition before reaching the final stage. Then everything should be well placed before their main dishes. By skipping the seventh competition and straight to the eighth, making it hard to predict the outcome. But, well, before they've finish it, ofc they did a little entertainment, especially when Kuonji's team just full of idol members. Then it was right! Lmao. They turned the skate-leading stage as an idol concert and made the audience in depth dependance over their brilliant attempt. Unfortunately it was not enough to the final due to a certain technical scores reason. Congratulations, Himekawa, your rival just wanted to show-off his entertainment skill. Lol. Of fuckin course, its a designed as a bluff to made Kuonji took that commentator place. Its really well design so far. So, lets see the final!

Last week, it was a prop sword, now fireworks and smoke machines. Seriously, this series doesn't even know what the rules of its made up sport can and can not cover.

Nice match, Kunoji's turning his team's routine into an idol performance lol. Its funny how he never lets Maeshima speak. Himekawa is so lowkey wholesome

Is no-one really going to mention the conversation Kunoji and Shinozaki have at the end. When they said waffle it cracked me up so much lmao

Can't wait for the final match!
