----------------------------------------
This chapter is a lot to think about. In a large way it makes me recall the very beginning when the partnership was forming. During that time, when persuading Morita, Gin discussed the fact that every human was evil, the ‘so-called conscientious man’ only passes off evil for others to do and remains feeling as though they are likable and good. The contradiction here was that he wanted Morita to reject his offer, he wanted an ambitious but moral man as a partner. It was as though he was conceding that some people are good, it made me wonder if he even believed his initial speech. With the addition of his perspective in this scene, we can further understand his stance. He suggested that one cannot avoid evil unless they are isolated from other human beings. One will be complicit in evil no matter what and if you want to save other people, you are ‘prey to be naturally taken in by a villain’. To Gin, this is inevitable. It appears that Gin embraces this, deciding that ‘if you want to help people and play favourites’ you have to become the biggest evil you can.

It's a harsh worldview, one where if you are not the one doing the manipulating, you are the one who is manipulated. If you accept that premise, the ends justifying the means makes total sense. But Morita realizing all too late that he is surrounded by the worst that there is and to continue gaining power he must side with them and watch the people who need the most help suffer and die, it's something he could not stomach. Finally his morality has directed his path first and foremost. I also found it quite fascinating that Morita stated: “Although there's no doubt that they are bad people, they have an indescribable magic when you are involved with them. To the point that your personality is completely changed…” When he said this, I had to wonder if his personality had really completely changed due to a particular villain like Hidemine. I didn't think it had, but, especially with the description of Gin being someone he was ‘enchanted with’, I had to think he was referring to Gin above all else. The man who has turned him into the underworld machine that he is today. When we look at that transformation, his personality has almost definitely changed drastically.

Regardless, Morita may feel a sense of regret and shame. His dodgy eyes and his final goodbye certainly suggest that he is conflicted. Leaving behind the man I imagine he respects most and leaving behind the lifestyle that he had been barrelling down with ambition. If I had to guess, Kin will join back up with Gin, but seeing what happens in the story with this advancement should still be interesting.

To touch on a few other elements, I found the choice to depict the sordid and tragic story Morita participated in and was thanked for being covered up as if it never happened, Morita being a cog in that machine, was a fantastic example for Morita to face his inner workings with evil. It is a clear-cut case of evil alone benefiting from his service. Second, I thought Gin's discourse with Yasuda was pretty epic:
That guy can't be corrupted with money. He'll put his life on the line, too. But though he's a courageous man without fault, he was a little too pure. Because of his purity, he was afflicted by the Kamui’s poison. Rather, it's better to be a little impure. A person who’s a little bit greedy is better. Even if they face inner contradictions, their greed might pull them the rest of the way.
