That's very messed up. |

It might have been normal for the era, but the point I was making was that both of her parents disagreed with it personally- her father especially. But her mom, despite thinking it was too much, wanted her to go through it as a learning experience. It's one thing if it's your culture and that's what you believe, but the fact that she allowed it despite not believing in it was really odd. |

Didn't the father say something like, "You're just like your mother" or the like? It looks like her mom is used to handling problems like these by herself without asking for help, so she probably wants her daughter to do the same and become independent. That said, if the teacher was too violent or abusive to the point of harming the child's life then some action would have been taken to take care of that. |
