THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Quite a intriguing start with Rikka and the opening minutes. It looks like her life changes dramatically after her father is attacked. That scene when he sacrificed himself for her daughter was brutal to watch.

I also have to admit that Rikka/Lily is quite a badass after taking her mask (the Black Fox makeover). The action looks fluid with solid OST. Also, I do find the character chemistry to be charming. Mia is a mysterious character that I find somewhat likable. The technology is also noticable, nothing too mindblowing but has advanced elements in this timeline.

Wow I didn’t expect access to this movie right on the day it’s released. I thought usually you would have to wait for the Blu Rays to come out. This is great!

I enjoyed my time with this movie. The story is very traditional. It didn't really get in depth with any aspects and some arcs came out of nowhere, but the story structure was clear and straightfoward, which is nice once in a while. The characters were pretty good (MELISSA IS BEST GIRL) and the animation was incredibly solid.

Overall, this is a good movie but it should have been a tv-series so that it could have more in depth in its characters and story.

Pretty basic premise or rather said the elements that were thrown together, but I liked how it was executed. Although, this indeed could've been more impactful with a longer run time. Still, given the time frame at hand it was more than serviceable.

Visuals and sound were quite solid and I had some fun. Decent popcorn-movie. Maybe there will be a TV-sequel in the future.

I really enjoyed watching this movie.

The first part of the movie with Rikka and her grandfather with the ninja stuff was nice to watch. Though I did laugh at the use of explosives that made a hole through the roof.

The scene with the attack was sad to watch. Poor Rikka, to lose both her father and grandfather.

Good thing they were able to defeat Mia's father. For him to do experiments on his own daughter That's sad. Poor Mia.

Overall, quite a solid movie. 7/10. Hope there is a sequel in the future. I would prefer it if the make a TV series.

Didn't know it would be a movie, but either way the plot was weak as fuck moved way too fast for pacing. No depth on the characters.. didn't feel anything for anyone. Only positive thing for the whole thing was the animation was pretty good.

I'm dissapointed because it was actually enjoyable.

So for those of you who don't know, this was supposed to be a TV series, most probably a 2 cour one that had production problems and was semi canceled, so this is basically what they salvaged out of that.

The first 22 minutes are fantastic and that's because that was supposed to the first episode. After that it gets noticeably fast paced, uneven character personalities, akward character development and the movie ends without even confronting the main villian.

It's sad because it was still somewhat enjoyable. I liked the characters, the setting, the music, the atmosphere and this really could've been a really chill action ninja Anime but unfortunately it got lost in production hell

It's a pity really

Completely bland and unoriginal. The whole first episode was a massive cliché and a prime example of a studio that thinks "If I make the anime pretty enough, it will automatically be good".

Some parts make no sense and there are blatant holes in the story. Quite a few questions are left unanswered, and a lot of times you'll end up scratching your head at how far they stretch things to make the story work.

I'd rate it a 3/10.

Only reason anyone would watch the series would be because it revolves around cute anime girls to entice the sexually desperate neckbeards.

damn i hope we get a sequel so Melissa is also an artificial intelligence robot just like the animal drones that Rikkas father created so that means Melissa is another one of his creation

i guess the artificial intelligence science is whats really wanted by the enemy

Mia and Rikka are hot but i find Rikka's adult form and hair style more sexy

and the action is cool as expected of a movie with lots of sakuga

The dad cries out that the animals weren't meant for warfare.. And yet his daughter runs around perfectly using them for Intel gathering, surveillance and infiltration lol. At least they stopped her from killing Mia I guess.

The animation, art and music were nice. Unfortunately I didn't find the story or characters overly engaging. It wasn't a bad movie, nor a particularly great one either imo.

Edit: I would be interested if this had a season to follow, as I can't help but feel the characters didn't have enough time to shine.

Great animation and sound quality. Story is bland and kinda pretentious and characters aren’t particularly well-written at all. It’s a one off cashgrab, made for whatever additional reason I’m not even sure.

not sure if it was a wise decision to take a 2 cour anime and compress it into this mess. the story is so rushed and incomprehensible that it all just leads to question "where is this going?"

was this supposed to be a revenge story? they show the main villain right away and keep him hidden up until the end with this unnecessary cliffhanger

i guess the only redeeming point of this movie are those 2 fights, one at the beginning and one at the culmination. even tho it makes no sense why they suddenly go full mob psycho but i guess people don't care about this shit as long as the animation is fluid

yikes what were they thinking?! I never seen such devoid of unoriginality or maybe its been a while I watch something this BAD and the serious moments came as complete comedy to me. Whats worst that they didn't bother to wrap up the whole story and left many things unanswered.

The PV promised with bunch of sakugas but in reality seems like 7-8 minute fine sakuga and rest were almost still-shots and plenty of awful cgi and low quality background arts that makes looks GoHand recent shows seems much more competent. Character designs were so dull (especially other than the two main leads).

Its like they didn't even try making something decent or maybe was doomed to become bad to begin with when your trying to mix moe with dark plot. Honestly giving this more than 3/10 feels very generous.

marked it as completed and it said i watched 24 episodes lol. thanks, MAL.

BLACKFOX was a real feast for the eyes, and I really enjoyed the "world" of it
I hope it does really well in Japanese theaters so we can get sequels.

Really not sure how people didn't just have fun with this one. The story did feel fast paced but I thought it was very entertaining. Character development was rushed but I really don't see how people are complaining that they didn't face the main villain. It would be even MORE rushed if they tried to fit that in as well. You can only fit so much in under 2 hours, and I'd argue they still put too much in. If this was a TV series they could've spent a lot more time establishing a friendship before the "Reveal" and all t hat, more time with Mia's backstory, ect ect. So I won't say it's perfect, but there's a lot of weird things people are complaining about. It's was still easy to follow/understand and looked gorgeous. It made me want more.

After reading this was going to be a 24 episodes anime and got cancelled due to production issues, I now understand why it feels like an rushed and unfinished product. Even as a 10 episodes anime it could have been worked better than a 1.5 hours movie.

It is sad to see it die like this, the premise looked a bit interesting, but nothing nor anyone had enough screentime to be meaningfully enough.

Animation mostly good throughout, significant cgi for robots and less important aspects, not a dealbreaker, sakuga is good. Storyline starts out strong enough, but falls apart in the last 30-45 min. Could be the source material, could be the plot was compressed too much. Relationships go underdeveloped so interactions feel forced, and MC mindset and physical power level changes gave me whiplash. Really would have helped to add 30 min or stretch it out to a full season.
EDIT: Just read that it was planned as a 24 ep season but got canceled. That is really disappointing. I saw a lot of potential for an excellent show in this one, between animation and story, but it got mashed into one movie.

You could tell watching this movie that it was never meant to be a movie judging by its structure and overall look. I enjoyed the story despite it being pretty straightforward, it was okay for what it was really. The fight against the professor inside the building was actually incredible, i really enjoyed that scene. However I did find some issues throughout the movie, like the HORRENDOUS CGI, which has to be one of the worst I've seen in recent memory.. like those pedestrian models were awful. Also there were some shots where the characters were off model. Regardless, this is a solid 7/10. Looking forward to a continuation if it ever gets any, but I don't really see this project being successful in japanese theaters.

I'm using gloogle translator

Simply one of the worst anime I've ever seen, Rikka says she's going to abandon everything to get revenge, in the next scene she's working for a guy, she's after a cat, and she's going to live with another girl, like she's will you abandon everything being with someone? this is very contradictory, then she meets Mia, and out of nowhere they become friends because there is not much development between them, the anime out of nowhere becomes a totally powerless Super Powers anime, Mia's father experimented with her she that wasn't much explored but super powers? it was supposed to be a revenge anime! the script totally escapes the proposal started in the 20 minutes of the movie, everything is thrown in the trash to become a super power anime, of course I had shown Mia before, that was pretty bad, the movie after 20 minutes decays a lot in the script , the animation is good but the script is very bad.

Overall I really liked this movie, animation is really good, a little use of CGI but mostly for the background crowd and the robot they battled. However it didn't hinder me from enjoying it. I really liked the soundtrack.. Really need that at some point.

My only complaint, the pacing. Since the release of the special preview last week, I had high hopes for at least a playtime of 2 hours. But to see that the special preview was also included in this movie and yet the playtime was only 1 hour 30 minutes, is quite a let down.

Nevertheless, it's a bit generous since the pacing was pretty bad, but I really enjoyed this movie, so 8/10

If this is true, than this would have been so much better if it ran for 24 episodes, meaning we potentially could have had a proper conclusion with them taking down Brad for a proper finale. Such a shame, now to hope if we ever get a sequel.

24 “it was ok” votes?? Just watched it again, my God is this a masterpiece. Art, animation, fights, slight yuri undertones, the feels. Couldn’t want any more out of anime. Had been waiting for this for some time and wasn’t disappointed at all. Definitely looks like we’ll get a sequel as well based on the ending

The Melissa part was pretty obvious when Mia went “you’re...” because Melissa didn’t want to show her cut

That final fight scene has OG naruto levels of beauty. Gonna be the underrated gem of the season I can already tell.

i think even a 1 cour TV series (11-13 TV episodes) would be enough to make this more enjoyable and have a conclusive ending like they can fight the final boss together with Melissa so sad that they made it a movie with the same time length of just 3 regular TV episodes damn

or even just another additional 30 minutes to have that final boss fight would be enough imo

This is literally trite Hollywood YA garb in anime form. The research shit is fucking tangential, not relevant to the film outside of the bad guy scientist bad guy being jealous and crazy. The animal tech research used for robo weapons don't matter outside of our erratic and terrible MC having more gadgets to use and talk to. They're tools with "personality". It would have just been Lily/Rikka's quest against the typical corporate head who killed her family and yeeted their research but because we needed there to be TWO people her dad pissed off and so we would need multiple films, this sidequest adventure had to happen so the MC can get her suit in the climax and this could be a shitty ass prologue like Battle Angel Alita! Fuck this movie!

This project is either getting more movies or is gonna be left in the dust. I don't see any other options here given these types of movies in Hollywood.

My only issue was it felt a bit rushed but aside from that I loved every second of it Rikka/Lily's new costume is fucking dope as hell, the music is giving me superhero vibes which I'm sure was the point, animation was above average not amazing most of the time but great at the points where it needed to be (last fight is a good example) I love the art style, gives me trigger vibes the story is both different and standard at the same time so it works well, curious what Melissa gonna be up to in further sequels which God I hope happens this film deserves it and I feel it'll only get better from here. Also Brad looks like anime Lex Luthor and I love it (even got his own huge science company it was probably on purpose based on everything else that makes it feel like a superhero movie that went anime af). I'm getting some possible Yuri vibes going forward and I really hope it's a good representation of it (personally I like Kill la Kill's take on lesbian romance, not important for the plot but just assumed to be normal and no one really cares it's just accepted as part of the world) either way GIMME A SEQUEL I'LL WATCH ANOTHER FEW OF THESE MOVIES plus gotta see how the anime A-Force/Birds of Prey/*insert other female only comic book superhero team that I forgot to mention here* take down anime Lex Luthor and probably his other accomplices that haven't been shown or mentioned but are REALLY in control of everything from the beginning etc etc either way I'm so excited to see where this franchise goes (but definitely feel like it'd have been better as a TV series rather than a movie but hopefully future sequels handle their pace a lil better)

the ending just asks for a sequel, but i kinda doubt it would get one. it did end in a hollywood superhero schlock manner, in all traditions. we'll have to see how japan reacts to this shit. they're running ads for the movies, so there might be hope for a sequel after all
