THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER.
----------------------------------------
Okay, now I feel like an idiot for my comment in the previous chapter discussion. I thought I was smart as heck, applying my "locked room murder" knowledge, but just like that I got fooled by the most simple of tricks! My problem is that I go off of assumptions, and then NEVER go back to check whether those were correct in the first place. I only continue searching for answers and struggle, because the very basis for my thoughts is wrong. Just like with the earthquake -> paint spill causality. It's interesting to see that this has already been explained, and there's only half the book left... theoretically, there should have been a lot of hints already. Right now I can only think of two important bits (not pertaining to motives):

- Something (we haven't been told what) is off about the painting.
- The head was cut off at an odd spot, a bit "too low".
- The maids look all the same, which could result in some trick of sorts.

I guess we can add the fact, that the body was decapitated as an oddity in and of itself, too. The two "oddities" pertaining the motives are:

- The lady of the house refusing to call the authorities.
- The "fortune teller" pretending to know that stuff was about to go down (and ending up being right).

I am sure I missed the most crucial clues though. Just letting everyone know how much I suck as a detective with this post. :P Can't wait to see how it continues! I really like it so far. Even if I think it could have been written a bit better. But perhaps this is a problem of the localization, I don't know. I got used to it though, so it's not too bad at all.

The book is honestly such a gem that i think Bakemonogatari fans are going to like.
