THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- This was actually nice, and the character design is beautiful, really a classic shoujo. But I don't understand why Kaname started dating Nori in the first place, making things complicated when it seems he was in love with Saki since they were in high school, and it's sad that they ended together. I mean, they loved each other I guess, but Tachibana was the one who understood, and supported her, but I'm not saying that she needed to throw herself in his arms just for this, but it would be nice if her heart, after suffering with the situation of loving her sister's boyfriend, would naturally drift to him or something, but well, nice enough, and I liked the songs! |

Dating Your sister's ex is wrong which ever way you look at it. Kaname is a scum and Saki is a bitch whichever way you look at it. Tachibana was the real guy for her, but no she had to go for the forbidden. I didn't like the concept and the way things ended, so I wouldn't call this trash romance or love. It's a twisted shit with a twisted bitch as its main character. Would like to give it a zero but there isn't any. |

Only I found the ending unhappy, despite what it looked like? |

I feel like she should have got together with the other guy, he understood her on a deeper level. It's kind of silly she got together with her sister's ex, regardless of the circumstances. Ending aside, it wasn't too bad of a story for a half hour 90s OVA. Aesthetically, it looked really good. I really liked Saki's hair especially, it was very pretty. The firefly scene was good looking too. |

Watched it fully for the songs, really just failing the opening for 12 in a row and saying it's always singles after it. But I agree that Saki shouldn't have gone with Kaname on the ending. Feels like she threw her Character Development to the trash in the last 30 seconds. |

I'm so annoyed at this crap. So they were actually attracted to each other in school. The sister implies that she knew about it before hand, but still went after the guy and somehow made him date her. Like, bruh. Then, fine, the sister and the dude break up. That doesn't mean the dude can go after the girl after all this time!!! Like, be for real dude. It's good that the girl struggles due to the morality of it, that she tries to toss it aside. But oh man she did the second male lead dirty. That was a good guy, he understood her and respected her far much than the first dude! They had such a great time together! I was ready for them to be freaking together!!! SO WHY THE HELL DID SHE THREW HERSELF ON THE FIRST GUY THAT DATED HER FREAKING SISTER!?!?!? WHYYYY??? WHAT'S THE FREAKING MORAL OF THIS FREAKING STUPID STORY!?!? whew |

I like how genuinely Tachibana loved her. You don't really see stories where the other love interest genuinely would rather see the person he is in love with happy with someone else than be with them. While yes, he could probably be a significantly better partner to her than sister's ex-boyfriend, it's not what her heart wanted. He recorded for so long and noticed what made her the happiest. She was sad around the ex-boyfriend, yes, but not because of him, she was feeling sad fighting her feelings for him. He recorded her happy as she watched him, happy as she thought of him. He could read her so well that he knew what would make her the happiest was no longer fighting between the morals of loving him and what society expects of a sister. He helped her make that choice, he framed her love consistently with positive language- he called it a pure, wholesome love. He confessed to her purely to get it off his own chest, before she even had a chance to respond, he said to her that he knew she would reject him and he was perfectly okay with that because what he wanted was to see her happy. He sat with her there in that beautiful place and helped her process her feelings for another man and make the choice she wanted to make in her heart. What he recorded of her in those fireflies was the weight and the pressure of her decision being lifted off her shoulders, it was her allowing herself to feel the love she had to the ML without any impression or guilt. She talks of how being around Tachibana makes her feel safe and like she's walking on air, and while it's easy to perceive that as her having feelings for Tachibana and that he is the better choice, I think instead what it is conveying is the message of the story. Those feelings she's describing are in fact describing how one feels in love, the light airy feeling of love, but she wasn't able to fully experience that due to her suppression. Tachibana was the only place she could share and express her feelings for the ML openly. She felt so light and airy around him because he was working hard to help her understand that she could love him, that it wasn't wrong, that love isn't wrong. His love for her despite loving another wasn't wrong, he understood that, he wanted her to see that perspective as well. He wanted her to be her happiest self, the one he was able to record as she watched and thought of the ML. He is the better choice to us as the watcher, he is the better guy, but he is not the better choice to this girl. Love is complicated, love can be hard, we all know this, but it is also safety, it's joy, it's passion, it's the light airy feeling she gained in the fireflies. She just could only feel the painful side of it before, Tachibana allowed her the right to feel the other side of it. The story is trying to tell us, as the viewer, that it is okay to express the love you have for someone in your heart, don't suppress it. Tell the person, even if you know it's futile. Love the person you love, even if society wouldn't approve. Its message is that love itself is pure and shouldn't be suppressed, you can choose the person that might be better for you, the one that society would approve, but it won't make you happy. Choose what makes you happy. |
