This series seems to be bipolar in terms of what it wants to be. In some moments, it's a violent, dark, and tragic story, but in other moments it's a light-hearted comedy with jokes that don't really stick. This wouldn't be as big of a problem if there was build up to a joke or tragic moment, but both seem to come out of nowhere. This would not have bothered me as much if l didn't already see Black Butler, which l think handles the balance of comedy and tragedy better. Black Butler is able to give you a bit of breathing room so that jokes stick and tragic moments hit you. Moving forward, l this show should either choose between one of these two genres, or give the audience a break instead of having one episode be pure tragedy and the next be pure comedy.
