A nice ending :)
I can see why it gets compared with Yokohama kikou. It has a nice sense of calm, and the characters are simple but sweet. Liked the past present interchanges.
All in all, a very good read. This manga needs more love.

This was a great read, the afterwords given by the author are great too.

A beautiful manga, I loved it. This could actually be made as a really good film, anime or live-action.

I just found out that it was made into a live-action movie about 7 years ago lol.

Not cohesive and lacking a steady pacing. I'd like to re-read it though.

Pretty good read and I'm surprised this hasn't been adapted at least into a movie or something, it certainly deserves it.

This manga didn't show all the angles and implications of the atomic bombing, but it was a remarkable intimate tale on how the life of the people caught in the bombing continued, despite the trauma, discrimination and fragile health in danger of breaking down and resulting in death randomly at any time. Rather than showing how evil the very act of destroying so many lives one-sidedly, the story is there as a reminder to those left behind and the uninvolved, who are well aware of the historical event, but seem to lack empathy or choose to "partially forget" certain aspects. I'm glad that Minami allowed herself to be happy, no matter how short it was, before departing.

And all of the dots connect in that last page. It was a bit difficult to follow the timeline of events, but I think that everything eventually tied together in a satisfying manner. This certainly broaches a difficult subject and it's both informative and compelling to get a glimpse into how the bombing of Hiroshima affected the everyday folk of Japan. This manga is sometimes cheery & easygoing, but also can become very heavy and haunting in its recollection of that historic calamity.

The author's afterword was a nice final touch as it provides a more hopeful, optimistic message to take to heart. I particularly like how the author emphasizes that the true ending is walking away from this with the desire to live life to the fullest.

7/10, definitely worth whimsically grabbing on my way out of the library.
