Well, my question is, will I like it? But I will break this down to parts...

1) Is this a Shounen or a Seinen

2) Is there too much comedy in it?

3) Rated R 17+, why?

4) Are its horror elements, well...horrorful?

5) How's it's atmosphere like? Light-hearted or grim?

6) Do characters die?

Based on your answers, I will decide wether it's worth watching for me or not...
Signature? I ain't got no signature! I don't need no signature! I don't have to show you any stinkin' signature!

1) Looks like a shonen.

2) Yes. Almost everything is comedy. Even mystery is coated with comedy. - -

3) Dude, no idea.

4) No. The only scary scene was in ep2. It was a good one, but last episodes (4 and 5) weren't even remotely scary.

5) Light-hearted. Way too light-hearted for the great predicament the characters are in.

6) It's hinted at. Some characters died, but I don't know whether you count nameless people.

Conclusion: you might want to pass on this, or wait till next episodes either make or break this show.

It definitely doesn't look it is what I would like it to be. I'll take your advice on that and leave it be. I guess untill I find it gets any serious in the end. But I kinda doubt it.

Why ask? Just watch the first episode and see if you like it.

This show caught my attention when I was looking through Summer prospects, but as soon as I watched the trailer and heard that... how to call it... cartoon-esque music I became suspicious. I'm basically watching this now because a friend of mine watches it too. First episode was a failure - it looked more like Cartoon Network story. :/ Second episode showed promise - maybe not of real horror, but of juggling tropes and becoming a horror parody. Alas, now it's a supernatural comedy. I wonder whether all these filler-like arcs and beating around the bush actually have any connection to the main plot. :/ But yeah, I don't have much hope either.

Re: R 17+. I recall an indirect shot of certain aspect of male physique that is almost never shown. But Occult Academy is supposed to be rated for violence and profanity, so... I dunno.

There's no shonen/seinen in animation. It's only related to pre-publication magazines.

This anime is mostly parodic. It makes fun of the occult hype in Japan, so the way the subject is treated may not be as funny as it should be for foreign watcher. I think the ironic tone make it worth watching, at least, the first episode.

Nothing of that. More like parody like the other person said.

2) Is there too much comedy in it?
There is a lot of comedy, especially in the first two episodes.

3) Rated R 17+, why?
I don't know... There isn't anything so bad. Maybe some light nudity, but that's all.

4) Are its horror elements, well...horrorful?
Not at all.

5) How's it's atmosphere like? Light-hearted or grim?
Light-hearted.

6) Do characters die?
Maya's father is dead from the first episode and there is some incident that happens in episode 5. But I won't spoil.

Just imagine this as a Japanese Scooby Doo that has to do with stopping some apocalyptic catastrophe but characters keep getting involved with Red Herrings.

^that....it's mostly to an individuals taste and if you can get the references then you'll find that its actually amusing....
