Noe-chan was too sexy and cute for Shinichirou, that's a good thing he end up with Hiromi.

Yeah... you got that right. Noe is too good for Shin. Shin literally wet his pants because of Noe's Awesomeness.

But I like reading these discussions, especially the long ones. So detailed and so much BURNING passion. Legendary Girl A... yeha.

Death was a relieve for Sekai from her massive suffering and guilt for the murder and if she where to live, I can only imagine her going nuts and Katanoha should've died too if you ask me, better than living as a psycho..

Thanks. ^^

In a way it was. Death would serve as a relief to the two of them I suppose. But I guess the ending was blown far too out of proportion, in such a way that things turned out so drastic.

yeah ,school days was messed up and even the raping scene for Katanoha was censored

Yeah, that was taking it to the far extreme imo. Very twisted, but I reckon they were taking things too far. On the bright side, the art was pretty good, and the voice acting was pretty top notch as well.

I agree with your point on both characters so what your saying is that both characters were made villains by the viewers and not the writers ?
Ai's action which includes her cruelty to Nobuse were because of her massive self-loathing and not liking herself for who she is .She indeed lied to both guys for years and hurted Nobuse, forced herself on Shin but she had this huge empty hole .Nobuse did fell it a bit but it was never enough (nobuse was given her love but she wasn't feeling because she couldn't return it ) her love for Shin was so deep and it made her lose sight of things and her mind (be deprived of her soul)that she couldn’t see anyone but him

Yes, the writers never portrayed them to be meant for these two characters to be villains but rather darker characters than the others. Because of these, the characters are often misinterpreted. Her love for Shin was truly strong and blinding, which set up the mood for her hidden and more serious moments.

Does she deserve to be hated? No but some might dislike her, Were her action's wrong? yes ,is she a bad person ?No..She simply need understanding and those people who villainize her don't seem to focus on her character at all and view things from Nobuse's point because it's easier to read thing's from Nobuse point because Ai is difficult to read …

I don't think she deserved to be hated. I agree that she should not be hated, that perhaps her actions were not right but she was truly a good person inside. Truly misunderstood, yet truly fascinating if she is delved deeper into.

Jun was doing his best to get away from his sister and yes he did hurt Noe and tried to break Shin and Hiromi but he also had self-loathing like Ai
Does he deserve to be hated? No but some ppl might dislike him,Were his action's wrong ?yes, Is he a bad person ?no ,but he does show negative attitude towards people

Once again, I agree with your views. At least he was trying, lol. There are many anime with this siscon complex, but I think True Tears has perhaps one of the most realistic and honest depictions and scenarios based on this issue alone. I guess he is also one who has a lack of socialisation; as his employer said, he has the ability to attract many girls, yet he only has eyes for his sister. He, being such a good athlete, can attain many friends, and yet he has not many people. It was always him and his sister, as he stated.

From What I read I think that Ai and Jun belong more into the Neutral category and not the villain category as they were both trying their best to control themselves but they couldn’t (considering that they suppressed their feelings the most out of all the characters )Ai's conflicts between her dark love for Shin and that pure/growing love for Nobuse inside of her that she was resisting Nobuse feelings at first because they made her feel guilt which was the only way for redemption but she was unable to let go because of her self-loathing and thinking that Nobuse is too good for her and the same goes for Jun as he too was fighting conflicts between his love for his sis and the fact that it was wrong ..
Who do you think made more mistakes Jun or Ai ?

While I think both characters did make many mistakes as the series progressed, I would say Ai made more mistakes and yet Jun's mistakes were perhaps more critical and serious. Ai lied to those around her and pushed herself forcing herself on Shin, but Jun had an actual romantic feelings, lust for his own blood sister.

Your right in terms of realism Ai was more realistic and as I was watching the show I realized that Ai is indeed the MOST difficult character to read in the whole show .Many people seem to neglect her character .I understand them making Ai the realistic heroine who must face harsh reality to move on and I also understand them showing realistic unrequited love but why do you think the writers made her more darker and symbolic? And how do you think that Ai suffered differently than Hiromi and Noe ?

I believe it was the quickest and most impactful way to make their third heroine something special. Given the span of the series, 13 episodes was not enough to get into depth for all the characters and as such, they had to use symbolism, as this was able to translate to 1000 words, without wasting much time and concentrating on Shin's main rivalling love interests. While there were some similarities i the way all three suffered, I would say Ai suffered more on a guilt reason, relationship, on romantic reasons. Noe suffered from loneliness, of being the odd one out, of being unable to cry and not able to express herself. Hiromi suffered from her parents passing, and the coldness of Shin's motjer towards her.

They both love food ..lol

I love food too. =P Cooking shows are one of my favorites.

I agree with you too because is Ai darker but why do you think that ?

She, like Hiromi, always keeps to herself. Yet, i believe she harbours feelings of jealousy, self loathing, guilt that is so perfectly hidden that I would have to say, she is like a dark cloud. A ticking time bomb waiting to explode, just as her sudden actions to Shin would suggest. Hiromi, while very calculative, was very much in control of her emotions throughout the series.

Yes, almost all anime have girls like Ai but most of them get's to receive the love of the guy but Ai stood no chance which is very realistic (the last time I saw a realistic unrequited love is from Honey and clover) and I like also liked the fact that were both able to overcome the obstacles and not feelings less about themselves and that Hiormi and Shin were larger than them which is how Aiko felt a bout herself comparing to Hiromi and Noe and Nobuse felt about himself comparing to Shin .And by someone like Ai – I hope you mean someone who's dark and not someone who's bad or low ..lolll

Yes, dark as in very mysterious, so much so that she cannot even begin to understand herself. Honey and clover too was a very realistic anime about relationships, that had many, many poins that could be analysed as well. So in this way TT is very similar to H+C indeed. I really liked that very much too, the overcoming is always one of the strongest points in anime.

Yes, it's the only way I can see Nobuse acting the way he did to give heal Ai's hear and pride ..

And he did it very well too.

[And she knew that from the beginning of the show but she was holding on to that tiny ,small hope for so long and wanted to be near Shin even if that closeness is a lie ,her love for Shin was so vital

True, you could see her desperation and how important that was to her.

I wonder if she lives by herself

Same.

In the drama CD and in the Anime,it showed us that she is a lone, look at the way she taiks and waits for Nobuse which proves that Nobuse is her only best friend now as she seem to tell her biggest secrets, her thought's only to him and not even Shin and she only seem to wait for Nobuse and no one else ..she's not like Hiromi or Noe in the drama CD who are more social ..

Indeed. hiromi is the most outgoing of the three, while Noe eventually became a normal person with friends, and yet even in the end, Ai just had Nobuse. There's more to her than meets the eye, definately.

Also Agree ,if only people could focus on her more ..

When the OVA comes out, maybe then. ^^
Yup ,a second season would just ruin the story but A story on Aiko and Nobuse wouldn't hurt although they could do a second season with a whole different cast and story .An OVA is the best way to say goodbye to this series (so please P.A works ,make an OVA..lol)..I guess I will just give CANAN a try .

I agree. Additionally, I hope CANAAN doesn't disappoint.

I deem Mitsuki and (Keade from shuffle )to be one of the saddest characters I've seen. Her coldness to the sleeping was because of her jealousy and Akane cold treatments towards her .Sure they were difficult characters and destiny screwed with them but I found them all to be pretty tragic and they were like true tears character but the events in KGNE were far more larger than true tears and it was depressing as they suffered too much ..
Why did you find it hard to sympathize with her ?

I found, despite her being such a good friend to Haruka, she never resolved her differences with her. In addition, she didn't show much concern at all, and was more worried about losing Takayuki. But she probably was a great character, despite myself finding it quite difficult to understand her for some odd reason, and I think your explanations for her did her a lot of justice.

I also agree that situation in KGNE was of a much greater gravity and the tragedy there was something far more serious than True Tears. But both series did a very good job in their presentation overall, and were superb watches. ^^

I'm a female who rooted for Noe. I like her, she may be a bit crazy, but at least i felt attached to her. I tried so hard to like Hiromi.. and I just couldn't. I don't know why, but I couldn't convince myself to like her. I understand she is a character that underwent a lot of growth during the show, and I don't hate her, I just don't like her either...

Sure. She made the love triangle, but it still doesn't mean she was a worthwhile person.

Actually I liked Aiko. I could sympathize with her situation, and as a character I liked her.
It wasn't really the mistakes that made me dislike Hiromi... i just... didn't like her personality. I didn't like her attitude, and i don't know.. she just bothered me. You know, some characters that you can't explain it, but you just don't like them.

Also, the reason I tried to like Hiromi is that, I could tell the show was heading a direction where an ending of Shin x Hiromi was going to be the reality. I don't like not liking a main character, so i tried to, and failed haha.

To me Aiko had the most destructive /dark feelings out of all the three girls T T and she was living a fantasy which is unhealthy if you ask me ..
Aiko is the most hated character on the whole show but that's cuz many people don't seem to understand her character that much and think she's useless because she had small screen-time play but Ai really is a deep character if we focus on her more ....

maybe you havn't focus on hiormi's inner feelings ,read page 4 of this thread and you'll find plenty of info on Hiromi and Ai^ ^she's just a difficult character to read because of her many feelings ..

I can understand why people would dislike Aiko, but I also think that you can see that she is a complex character, and while she is self-destructive, it's easy to understand her emotions. Such as why she feels the way she does. I feel like Aiko only agreed to go out with Miyokichi because she didn't know how to say no, and the one she really liked (Shin) was the one trying to set the whole thing up. It is still her fault for going into the relationship, but i think there was a lot of pressure, from the boys, and from herself trying to make Shin happy by going out with his friend. She is living a fantasy you're right, but I don't think her motives are bad, she is just trying to make people happy (including herself, miyokichi, and shin).. and situations where everyone is happy are very difficult to maintain. I do like where they went with Aiko and Miyokichi at the end, it's a good idea for them to start from the beginning with an honest friendship, and _then_ see where it goes. She needed to sort out her feelings for Shin, which she did and got shot down. So now i think she could have a real relationship with someone. I've been in a similar situation (not exactly the same) so maybe thats why i understand Aiko more.

That's probably why i'm having a hard time being attached to Hiromi.. I find her real emotions very difficult to read (which is on purpose for the show i know) and I find it hard to relate to her situation. But I'll go check out the info on pg 4, thanks :)

very true ^ ^and I agree with every word you said a bout her as well .She felt pressured and couidn't say no to Shin indeed .People hated her because she used Nobuse to get to Shin and was cold to him but that was because of her self-loathing and guilt .she's always known that she made a mistake and hated herself being with Nobuse .People also hated her for forcing herself on Shin but can you blame her ?,she may have cheated on Nobuse but he wouidn't let her go and be relieved .Just like what Kaede did on ep 21 of shuffle ,Ai just couidn't take it anymore and threw herself on him for some attention because she wanted to get rid of it once and for all (move one and reedem herself).she toyed with both guys and her plans and hidded feelings had the potential to destroy the friendship but she tried her best to bottle her feelings not wanting to cause any harm .

It all got messy when she started being honest with both guys(everyone said she was being cruel because she was telling Nobuse the truth)when she hides herself ,ppl say she's cruel and when she's honest people say she's cruel. What do people want to her to do ..lol some even say she's like sekai from school days ..sure she made lot's of mistakes but she was just in love ..

there's just one thing i don't understand .if she accepted the fact that a future for her and shin can never be and that he'll always always love hiromi (she was even supporting and helping him understand hiromi)then why did she choose to go after him ?why did she take the hard way ?why did she choose to love someone who won't return her feelings ?why did she choose to not forget and continue knowing that she has NO CHANCE with him IN HELL(is that normal)?

Ai's main problem was that she gave up on Shin for Hiromi's sake ,she's always believed that there's no one in Shin's heart but Hiromi and she put herself as second best (the rebound girl who was waiting for an opening )but seeing Noe making Shin fall in love with her so fast made her breakdown ,because Noe manged to make Shin fall inlove with her so fast when she's being trying for years .She regretted not trying harder ,she regretted giving up on Shin but mostly she regretted falling in love with Shin..

Even though ,people say that Shin's rejection was right -It didn't just hurt the girl but she lost her pride ,her morals and herself as well ..and that's why I feel for her because reality was harsh to her ..but in the end Ai is just a victim of love ..

Ai was the most realistic character on the show ..

I don't rage over anime. I enjoyed True Tears a great deal; the best 'pure' romance series I've seen to date, and part of that was due to Hiromi being such a skank. It disappointed me that Shin took the easy route and chose her, because she'd been such a bitch to him forever. Where's the love? He just wore her down, he didn't charm and win her over.

They got together because they had known each other for years, nothing more. It was the 'obvious choice'. The easy way out. No effort required to get to know and understand her that would be required with other girls. Weak on his part and lame on Hiromi's entire existence because she never showed any redeeming qualities that actually made Shin like her.

Hiromi had reasons to act the way she did and being the bitch you say she is all because of the way the mum treated her (it's being said many time's already )she may not have acted the right way .If she lied then so did Ai (Ai lied and made more misakes than her)but they all did so why are most of you Noe fans blamin Hiromi when Shin was the one who picked her over Noe ..

why do people view this as a game show.Hiormi had always loved Shin since they were young .Hiromi was the only right choice for Shin if we had to pick between a weird/disturbed/mentally retarded girl and a best friend girlfriend /deeply disturbed/self-destructive desperate/one-chan girl.. ..

All three girls are unstable/emotional character's if you ask me ..

Both she and Hiormi suffered a lot but he loved Hiromi and felt confused a bout Noe ..

Hiormi is just mess of feelings and she's had it bad like Noe and i can't see why many people hate her so much ..

Indeed ,Because Ai was the most realistic character in this show ,she made mistakes more than (Shin,Jun,Nobuse,Hiromi and Noe )although less than the mum but Jun mistakes were more series ,ur right..I think that the writers wanted to include a love which involves self-loathing and massive guilt as part of the story .Which is why the title guilt-ridden fits Ai perfectly as she the one who showed the most guilt out of all the characters .Although she made mistakes, I still think she is a good person inside .

I don't think she deserved to be hated. I agree that she should not be hated, that perhaps her actions were not right but she was truly a good person inside. Truly misunderstood, yet truly fascinating if she is delved deeper into. .

Agree ,Ai so underrated and misunderstood ..

jahrakal2009 said:

Once again, I agree with your views. At least he was trying, lol. There are many anime with this siscon complex, but I think True Tears has perhaps one of the most realistic and honest depictions and scenarios based on this issue alone. I guess he is also one who has a lack of socialisation; as his employer said, he has the ability to attract many girls, yet he only has eyes for his sister. He, being such a good athlete, can attain many friends, and yet he has not many people. It was always him and his sister, as he stated. .

Agree ,Jun story would be great for all the siscon fans out there …

I believe it was the quickest and most impactful way to make their third heroine something special. Given the span of the series, 13 episodes was not enough to get into depth for all the characters and as such, they had to use symbolism, as this was able to translate to 1000 words, without wasting much time and concentrating on Shin's main rivalling love interests. While there were some similarities i the way all three suffered, I would say Ai suffered more on a guilt reason, relationship, on romantic reasons. Noe suffered from loneliness, of being the odd one out, of being unable to cry and not able to express herself. Hiromi suffered from her parents passing, and the coldness of Shin's motjer towards her. .

Your absolutely right ^ ^,Ai was special because she was more of a symbolic heroine though I think that if true tears was more than 13 episodes ,we would be seeing a lot more of Ai .The story focuses heavily on the triangle between Hiormi,Shin and Noe plus the chicken story ..
Ai's reasoning's for suffering are quite similar to Mitsuki and Sekai though it doesn't reach their level but I think that Hiromi and Noe too suffered from their feelings for Shin as well but Ai suppressed her feelings the longest considering that Hiromi only suppressed her feelings when she moved in to their house ..
What are the similarities between the three ?

She, like Hiromi, always keeps to herself. Yet, i believe she harbours feelings of jealousy, self loathing, guilt that is so perfectly hidden that I would have to say, she is like a dark cloud. A ticking time bomb waiting to explode, just as her sudden actions to Shin would suggest. Hiromi, while very calculative, was very much in control of her emotions throughout the series. .

I agree with you here ,I also noticed that Hiromi has good control of her feelings but Ai broke down fast but it's understandable because Ai hid her feelings longer than Hiromi did and I was not surprised because she's a human after all .Ai suffer's from love-sicknesss and that's why she's had it hard in dealing with her emotion's and is the most easy to crack among the girls because her love is unrequited and it's not pure like Noe or mutual like Hiromi .Her love involved lot's of guilt and self-loathing but to be honest with you –when it comes to love ,Ai actually suffered more than the other two considering that both Hiromi and Noe were in much worst situation's but it was more about family rather than love itself .Sure Hiromi and Noe did suffer massively because of their feelings for Shin but it was mainly because of their situation's .Hiormi and Noe suffered from love for Shin but their love was healthier than Ai's ..

jahrakal2009 said:

Yes, dark as in very mysterious, so much so that she cannot even begin to understand herself. Honey and clover too was a very realistic anime about relationships, that had many, many poins that could be analysed as well. So in this way TT is very similar to H+C indeed. I really liked that very much too, the overcoming is always one of the strongest points in anime. .

I too think that Ai never understood herself as well because she was like Hiromi and Noe –very messed up .
Honey and clover is a great anime but I think it's more of a reverse harem ,Bokara ga it is a good realistic anime too ,kimikiss is also good and the lead girl situation is exactly like Aiko ..

I agree, even though it may seem disgusting, unmoral and disturbing. I think it was a great sacrifice from Nobuse .Stealing a kiss from your best friend so both he and Ai can be even T T Aiko and Nobuse's relationship/love triangle is one of the saddest I've seen mainly because they both lost their moral's, both are seriously disturbed TT but I also think that the way the writer did it is very beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time since it's the only way that Ai can ever truly be happy because if Ai were to end with Nobuse ,she will always feel less about herself and undeserving of Nobuse .At first I was not really happy for Ai being with Nobuse cuz I thought that Ai will always suffer from guilt but After the drama CD,I changed my mind …

True, True Tears has one of the most detailed and beautiful artwork I have seen to date. The animation is superb even by today's standards this anime stands out.

I also noticed that Ai was used for the high drama as well .Unlike so many people who Hated and were frustrated with Hiromi's action's ,I never was frustrated with Hirormi and I was more frustrated with Ai because she missed up a lot and I knew that her fate and road for Happiness was gonna be the rockiest of the three girls .Ai's love for Shin was freaky but Like you said it was right for her more series moments ..I kept thinking to myself, how far is aiko going to go after Shin?..She almost turned the show into 'love me or I'll kill myself'… if this was school days ,she would be like Sekai .It would be horrible if she kept chasing after him

But I think she probably wouldn't resolve to kill Shin though. I still believe she's a kind person inside and too afraid to hurt people. But I agree with you her love for Shin was freaky and I can indeed see where you are coming from and how Ai could be pushed to the edge.

So do I. So do I. I value Ai so much because of her realism, and how much impact she had in that anime despite her limited screentime. Truly an amazing character, as she fits self-loathing, guilt and brooding better than so many characters I have seen in anime. The mistakes she made, and how she worked to overcome them is both a metaphor and lesson for people who find i difficult to move on and leave behind their first, failed love.

You are right. Ai was able to hide her pain and darkest feelings better than the other two girls, while Noe was the most open and honest about it; her major flaw being her inability to express her feelings, although this is very endearing. All three characters have an interest for Shin, although differently. All three girls have a darker secret behind them and suffer in a realistic and tragic way. All three girls are unable to express their true feelings for their loved ones (and this is the core of the series), but for different reasons of course.

Lol,though I'm not good at cooking ..

Lol, there's always instant noodles. :P

Once again, I completely agree. ^^ Hiromi and Noe definitely have a more tragic backstory than Ai, but romantically, Ai's suffering was perhaps greater and her love was darker more painful than the other two.

Yes, Kimikiss is also very good. If I find something new that's good, I'll be sure to recommend it to you as well. ;P Haven't checked Bokura Ga yet though.

I agree, even though it may seem disgusting, unmoral and disturbing. Same feelings here. And indeed, Nobuse did a selfless act, once again. Showing why we all love him for it. Wewt. ^^ I was pleasantly surprised with the final pairing of the two of them, even now. There should be more anime where the rejected girl finds someone who treasures her very much. :)

It's as if Shin is her only friend ,she is always known about that great love between him and Hiromi and she knew she wouldn't win a against an obsession .Hiromi was always number one in his heart and she's literally a head because she lives in their house ,then suddenly someone else showed up in his life not giving Ai the chance ,she was always in the dark unable to express herself ,such a sad place ,she wanted to be known as a woman .In fact she knew about Shin's feelings for Hiromi more than he knew himself even .You see Ai wanted to be second and not first ,she wanted to be the rebound girl(a replacement for Hiromi )and by not confessing her feelings ,she actually did the right thing since she knew very well that her chances were below zero even if she was not dating Nobuse ..Ai was competing against active Noe and his true love Hiromi, she was competing a against his angel and the history of him and Hiromi .I never expected her to be in his dreams ,both Noe and Hiromi had reason to be there but not her .An even before she started dating Nobuse ,he never noticed .I've read somewhere that Hiromi used to live in a another town before she moved in to their house and he only knew Nobuse and Noe in high school ,So Ai was his closest friend and she's being crushing on him before He became friends with Nobuse and Noe and before Hiormi moved in to their house and knew a bout the lie .Poor girl T T

T_T, so true. Ai knew so much about Shin and loved him so much. She knew all his feelings even when he himself couldn't understand them himself. How very moving indeed.

I agree. Ai's plight was depressing, and that itself is an understatement.

Truth is, no one visit's her shop but Nobuse and Shin..Doesn't she have friends from her school?loll

I assume she doesn't, but of course, not much is known about her to know without a doubt.

Both Hiromi and Noe have friends but not Ai,I noticed that too

Double-edged sword. Depending on how you look at it.

Did it come out yet ?

Not yet, but somewhere around next month. Did some research. It's Type-Moon, meaning its similar to Kara No Kyoukai and Fate/Stay Night, Tsukihime.

Mitsuki is a mess T T and she loved Taka in a tragic way ..why do so many people compare him to mokoto though ?they're nothing a like ..

Sure, Mitsuki was sad if you put it that way I suppose. Exactly. Makoto is a low-life scum. Takayuki was actually a conflicted individual whose kindness was his undoing. I actually understood and now don't dislike Mitsuki so much anymore. Listening to the viewpoints from an unbiased person sure does make a load of difference.

Finally. completed this. =P

Sorry for the wait, but it is finally done.

No...Noe is awful as a choice for gf. In anime it may seem cute and good, but she acts extremely weird. It's a miracle that Shin managed to love her. She's nice and sweet, but you must have your nerves made of steel to withstand her.

Not to mention many people have irrealistic dellusions of Noe stealing Shin. Shin's mind made of three things:
1.Hiromi(65%)
2.Picture Book(20%)
3.Other things needed to live(15%)
Noe managed toreach, but it's far too insuffient for somone so seriously in love with a woman to give it up and chose her.
Her only chance was the Hiromi's lie and the deal between him and Jun. Shin would love to go out with even a wallflower to make Hiromi happy.

That's why I said it's been obvious since the beginning. The first few sentences of Shin made it clear. No matter what kind of ending the anime's going to have...Hiromi must be happy in it.

I have a new theory why the female viewers obviously rooted for Noe by majority(or at least it seems like on the poll): Jealusy.

Hiromi is fit for the Yamato Nadeshiko trope. In short somehow like a really womanly girl. While Noe is fun and weird, but still manages to catch Shin's attention, Hiromi is was cold and beutiful girl.
She was antipatical because of that.
Also interesting that while people seem to think about Noe as more friendly and good in real world they would likely think otherwise. Hiromi had friends and fitted in well with others. She was also kind, while Noe's selfish and weird habbits tend to isolate people from her.

Jealousy!? ahhhh your theory is wrong.
Hiromi was a complete bish and was sneaky/manipulative and wore an ugly pick turtle neck.
Noe was honest, cute and her "selfish" habits have been misconstrued, it was simply a way of expressing herself.

The poll speaks all.

I think your outbreak now fits my statement rather well.:p

Noe was selfish though it's better to say childish. She's pure and innocent and has a quite good insight, but with her weird habbits which she forced down on Shin I can't say she isn't selfish.

Male - Noe here. Funnily enough, I expected all four options to be represented about equally. Imagine my surprise, then, when I see that the dominant trait wasn't either of the girls but rather the "male" part... though in retrospect, it should've been kinda obvious. Oh well...

Personally I liked both girls, even if Hiromi turned a bit... annoying towards the end, though she redeemed herself in the last episode. And as much as I would've liked a Noe ending, she was treated fairly well throughout so I'm satisfied with the ending regardless.

Now, if he had ended up with Aiko on the other hand, *then* we'd have had pitchforks and torches. I may understand her feelings and motivations, but I *still* hate her.
No problem is insoluble in all conceivable circumstances.

Holy ***** on a ***** sandwich!

Yep, I skipped the long posts. I don't care if Hiromi has her reasons. I really dislike her. Hate is quite the serious word so I won't say it. Why don't I care? Because the whole "love" thing was stupid. It was something set on default, no butterflies in the belly, nothing. Plus, he was too atached to Noe and that was friggin obvious all the way till the end. And no, it wasn't a good ending for Noe, at least not a 100%, because she really loved him. I understood the whole point in the anime - retriving Noe's tears but... it just felt wrong. The whole Shin x Hiromi thing was so wrong. I mean, they were lover for 3 or 4 episodes, and God, I haven't seen more uninteresting and boring love than this. But that's just me.

Female, voted for Noe. And I'm sure that she would've turn more normal after they started going out. *You know, seriously, not their "going out" * Even if she didn't - that's what I like about weird characters. They can surprise you all the time and your relationship won't get boring.

Also interesting that while people seem to think about Noe as more friendly and good in real world they would likely think otherwise. Hiromi had friends and fitted in well with others. She was also kind, while Noe's selfish and weird habbits tend to isolate people from her.

But of course I'm jealous xD Why should I be?! Hiromi is so twisted, but of course I'm jealous! It is true that her type of character is more popular in real life but that doesn't mean that this is a good thing now, does it? About the weird habbits - Yes, almost every student who has a different point of view is isolated, including myself. Just because you can't understand Noe, don't be starting to talk so much c*ap. Exactly why I hate Hiromi's type of characters, BUT - she's not the main reason I'm mad. The reason is more actually Shinichiro and the plot in general. What Hiromi was looking for - a person who will protect her and wipe her tears - that was SO Jun. But noooooooooo, the obligatory cliche ending is better so they made him a siscon.

-cut out to save space-

You don't understand it quite well. It's true the flashbacks should've been much better, but it was explained and it was obvious from Shin's thoughts of Hiromi that he's TOTALLY in love with Hiromi. She wanted to do everything he could to even see her smile once again at him.
The thing wasn't out of the air. And also love is something which hard to decribe and show well. At least they did show the love part even if the "development" flashbacks were weak. Though it also shown us that even there they were seriously attached to each other.
And Noe had a somehow happy ending. She regained her emotions, became more open and also experienced love. As you saw in the last few minutes she even has friends now. It's much, much better than she could've been ended. Shin even told her that he liked her, but the one he always loved was Hiromi. She's got a fair and clear breakup without any hard feelings. And it's not as if she didn't expected it about a few episodes ago...
And about popularity. It's absolutely not only about the looks. Hiromi is much more friendlier even if she acted cold with Shin with a later justified reason. Noe had no friends as she beleived she has no need for them and lived in her own world. She had some clearly weird and I have to say irritating habbits in the beginning. Making someone to eat bird seeds is kind of close to bullying. Perhaps she's actually nice and good natured and had a quite interesting view of the world, but she's self-centered and sometimes hard to follow to the people around her. Having strange habbits is one thing, but her habbits was like she's wanting to actively isolate herself. It's good she became much more open in the end.
She gained a lot even if she lost Shin as a lover.

Then how about I put it like this -- the anime just didn't try to prove at all that "love" between Shinichiro and Hiromi. And trust me, I can sense everything, and I mean everything, I'm probably one of the biggest romance lovers, I can find love anywhere but here? Just... no. Again: The episodes after Hiromi and Shinichiro sorta started going out? The way he treated her? I mean, if he loved her that much, as you described it, he wouldn't have acted like that. And by the way - if Noe has gotten Shinichiro - exactly the same would have happened - he would've teach her that friends are important and bla-blah; So... the key was him. Their meet. Whether of sadness or happiness, either way she would've cried. So yes, it was not a good ending for her.

I'm not saying that there wasn't any love between Shinichiro and Hiromi - it's just that, with time, and with the appearance of Noe, it started to fade out. At the end I felt I was watching some couple that got tired of each other but they make a final try to work it out because of the kids or smt o_O

^shipper glasses...

There we have it. Shin and Hiropmi constantly had something between them. Actually the main thing which affected Shin's mood was how Hiromi is acted with him and how she feels herself.
You won't prove a thing if you state about yourself that you are a romance expert...especially because you missed out a quite improtant thing. The whole series started with Shin's honest wish to make Hiromi happy.
As I said his mind were full of Hiromi and how he can bring back her smile and things to the state they were about a year ago.
It is true he liked the company of Noe and she helped him out and he came to like her, but it was always Hiromi first. As soon as he found out Hirmi isn't happy with Jun the slightest bit he tried his best to help her and eventually confess.
I think you confuse it with a different thing. The mystery was that what Shin found in Hiromi to love and likewise. And in the end it wasn't anything unique. Shin protected Hirmi and she supported him. That's all. They complemented each other well. Perhaps it wasn't shown much before they got together and then because of the mess happening there. If anything I wanted to see some better flashbacks about they're being together. The flashbacks were cute, but cliche-like. And yes their relationship and chemistry is cliche-like. I guess that's the thing why you believe there was hardly anything around them. The unique thing wasn't their chemistry but the drama around it.

And about Noe. No...she wouldn't have. If she remained with Shin she would be still a secluded girl. Afterall nothing's matter as long as Shin is with her. She thought so. The pains of others, their feelings(for example Hirmi's tears in the end, where she asks him to keep her distance with Shin) were all important factors. Also Shin breaking up with her. She regained her tears and her closed heart finally opened. But for that all those things were a must to happen. She learned to finally move on(which she ironically suggested to Shin the whole time and in the end she realises that she was the one unable to) and become more open and maybe even friendlier. She had friends and lives her life. I guess her emotional wounds from the breakup are going to heal somehow quickly, thanks to the things she gained and a really proper and honest breakup.
P.S: I advise you to watch Infinite Ryvius. It has a bit similar kind of main romance but it has quite some differences. Though tthe anime is abit old and also the romance isn't the main focus(though fairly present).

The majority just like noe (demonstrated by the poll) because Noe is the heroine in True Tears. She doesn't resort to dirty tactics like Hiromi did when Hiromi pretended she wanted to be friends with Noe. She IS manipulative. Even she herself told Shinichiro it was her own fault. All the Hiromi fans just like women who dominate, her eyes, long hair and the fact she did splits in the last episode. A little shallow? Noe is not retarded or "really weird". She has whimsical personality. You may say that whimsical means "really weird" but it means "capricious; odd; peculiar; playful; light-hearted or amusing" This is a positive adjective.

Making someone to eat bird seeds is kind of close to bullying.

By the way, I'm pretty sure that Shinichiro is not a helpless little girl who eats whatever is given to him, if you watch it again, he actually tries it himself. She gave it to him, she is giving him bird seeds because she knows that Shinichiro can fly, she didn't force it inside his mouth.

To this date, the Isurugi Noe fanclub has more members than the Yuasa Hiromi fanclub. Isurugi Noe = 300 member favourites. Hiromi Yuasa = 78 member favourites. It's clear that more people felt that Noe was a stronger, a more likable character and someone who is deserving of a favourite spot in their mal's profile in general. Sure their just numbers but all of these numbers has shown the general consensus: They prefer Noe.

This is in my opinion anyway, everyone is allowed to express theirs and it's shown that everyone is on one side or another. These discussions really don't get us anywhere, the poll speaks all anyway. This massive thread just shows how the producers/writers have hooked us in and we all connect with the characters and like to fight why they are the best. We should have just had a poll where you can't comment.

They should just have alternate endings to make everyone happy lol. Alas, it doesn't work that way.

To your knowledge...girls like Noe are extremely rare even if we ignore her mental state. She is naive and somehow pure. Malice, hidden intents and else are fairly common in the RL. Calling Hiromi manipulative bitch for making friends with Noe by some other intent is prejustice.
Noe has more fans because she's unique. That's for sure. She has an interesting view of the world and has some weird habits. She's a bit like an usual Shoujo protagonist who acts strangely somehow but in the end that's soomehow charms the guy.
But still myí statement still stands: She's a weirdo. A likeable weirdo.
In RL it's quite rare for someone to choose someone like Noe over a Hiromi-like girl. Not to mention the osanajimi(childhood friend) background and else. Hiromi was miles ahead Noe since the beginning.
Except a small interval Shinchiro always thought about Hiromi.
Noe only had a chance when Hiromi remained cold to Shin, told him about them possibly being siblings and when Noe was actually forced on him(though he didn't mind that as much). It deemed insuffient soon after Hiromi's accident...even before Shin's father chased away his fears of them being sisters.

I don't really get what's so questionable about all this.

I was expecting guys to like Noe more, she has the weird and more moe personality. Seems I was right. Anyways, here's what I think:

Looks: Hiromi wins, definitely, even without considering that Noe's stature is a little too small for my taste.

Personality: Noe wins, she can be a bit annoying and childish at times but her overall personality still shines more than Hiromi's.

Prediction: I gotta commend this show for making me seriously guessing at times without turning the guy into a cheating indecisive fickle bastard of an asshole. Throughout most the series I was still predicting Hiromi though, simply because Shiniichi was obviously more in love with Horimi and doesn't really waver from that.

Who I rooted for: Despite liking chicken-girl a little more, I thought the story worked better with the Hiromi end (helps that the writers was aiming for that). By the 8th episode or so I found myself rooting for Hiromi and by the 12th I would had been pretty damn pissed if he had abandon Hiromi after all that.

Conclusion: Like Noe a bit more (even if she is cucoo in the head) but root for Hiromi.

YES, Noe IS crazy, not too crazy, but crazy. We still love her despite that (or maybe because of it?). I like Aiko (personality-wsie) but you just gotta like Miyokichi (i don't hate her for liking Shin rather than Miyokichi though, its her choice). I sometimes wish he would just ditch her but he wouldn't had been as tragic or likable if he did.

This is how I view the gender imbalance. For males, we tend to associate to other males. Thus in our eyes tend to project ourselves as shinichiro, who is conflicted between Noe and Hiromi.

Us males are free to pick whatever suits our tastes (for me, Hiromi). Hiromi wins in looks, but also she is sort of a tragic heroine. We see her in a lot of pain as she struggles to hold back her love for Shin. This sort of quiet strength which eventually gives way to her emotions make her attractive to a lot of guys. Again, not ALL guys see it this way, which is why a lot of Noe (and currently majority i guess) votes exist.

However, for females the choice is easy. They would root for whoever they associate to the most, which is Noe. Hiromi's emotions are often bottled up which makes association difficult. She also tries to gain friendship through deception, and we all know how being betrayed feels.

I guess in a sense if you reverse the rolls its kind of like the love triangle in Naruto, between Sakura, Naruto, and Sasuke. I doubt most guys would be able to place themselves in Sasuke's shoes, while many girls would have no qualms about rooting for Sasuke.

Noe ftw.
Hiromi was so bland, eugh it was so boring watching her scenes.
Altho Noe was slightly wierd with the things she said, at least we saw a relationship develop that we could warm to. Hiromi x Shinichiro make a crap couple, Noe inspired Shin whereas Hiromi just depressed him, and everyone else.
As for Aiko, I think she got the best guy out of Shin and Miyokichi, Miyokichi is my favourite character because hes so cute with how much he loves Ai-chan!

Just finished the series today. Had it on my hard drive for a long time, but didn't have time.

Anyway, I didn't vote for either one, since I'm torn between both of them. I did think he was going to go with Noe though, since mid-season Hiromi seemed to have transformed into a character I disliked.

Didn't really hate the ending either, I'm glad Sin'ichiro was able to choose one and not break the other's heart.

On a side note, Noe's brother's feelings towards Noe were kinda...disgusting.

Voted Noe, Hiromi gave the feeling that I was watching Rumbling Hearts (which I didn't particularly like >.>)... also I'm a Noe fan :)

I was thinking the exact same thing as you.
Anyway my vote goes for Hiromi. Beside wining in looks, she is the childhood friend of shinchirou and the 2 was originally in love. Since the 2 had like each other since the beginning of the series
(But was somehow hesitating due to their probability of siblings relationship they already have) , I kind of dislike it if Shinchirou had to change the one she like due to the presence of the series. No I don't like changes, its like a sign of easy going in relationship.
Noe is a nice girl, but i'm sure she will meet better guy. D:

(Shin-Noe: Yes...) duh??!! arrgghh.... well i know he's inlove to Hiromi since from their childhood memories... but meeting Noe and giving her hope to love him... ufufufufufufu~~ poor Noe xD i think ... the plot was too sadistic for her..?? but all in all the plot was good even though many people sees it as bad ending... yah yah... im sure that she will meet a better guy :)

If there was an Aiko option, I'd pick that.

But I was rooting for Noe, knowing of course that it was inevitable for the blasted childhood friend/psuedo-incest-candidate would win. And I'm a guy.

Hiromi was lame and boring. She had nothing that stood her apart. She was super b*tchy and Noe was overall much more appealing and interesting.
