I'll be real, I love BL. I watch every BL I possibly can as long as it isn't the worst absolute garbage (which can be hard to find) and with what little of quality stuff we get, I'm constantly hoping for more series to pop up. So I had this one on my list. This is a comedy, straight-up. It is so funny and so messed-up, but they are keeping the joke the joke and this last episode just showed this has a lot of hilarious potential. So while I don't really care about MAL score bombing and all that, I feel like people who came into this show expecting a BL romance was shocked at the fact the literal VAMPIRE is a creeper. And hisoka-voice and boner slides aside, I have seen waaaaaaay more creepy and unsettling stuff. Hybrid Child looking at youuuu So my only hope is now viewers who are disregarding it for the low score at least give it a chance if they like batshit messed-up comedy. I have no idea if this is a 6 or a 10 but I'm going episode by episode and enjoying the ride. That bit with the hair and gravity in this last episode is such a good bit This isn't a BL, and whatever feeling I go into watching BL is non-existent in this. I see why viewers wanting BL instantly noped-out and scorebombed. But what it seems to be is twisted vintage-feeling comedy and I'm here for it for now. And honestly the fact Netflix signed off on this brings some added confidence in it. (Sorta?) -Babanbabanban Vampire Defender ๐ซก |

I think this registers as being even less of a BL than, say, Patalliro. Though maybe some romantically gay characters will show up sooner or later. |

I don’t particularly like BL due to the usual lack of moe female characters which to me is the whole point of anime. But this isn’t BL, it’s just a farmer raising livestock to be particularly tasty. There’s only a hint of romance, mainly from girl to vampire, and some random male on male horniness for comedic effect. I actually find it very funny although straightforward so far. Definitely not to be dropped or scored low. |

Well on every site the manga is listed as a BL so it must be one. https://www.mangaupdates.com/series/cv0s96e/babanbabanban-vampire |

like this is getting scorebombed by BL fans noped-out by the premise, homophobes allergic to a BL tag, and virtue-signalers saying we can't have this when My Little Sister is So Cute or whatever exists like it is dooooomed for a 5 rating this might be saltiness from samurai flamenco getting wrecked but whatever |

@lordgaara Weird, it actually gets pretty fair treatement on Anikore (It's Anikore page here, with a score there of 6.39/10), MAL's equivalent for Japan, with none of the rushed conclusions people here on MAL are having of it. Like a female-oriented work that claims to be BL, the structure is of a dense density where arrows cross in complicated ways within a narrow scope, and the more characters are added, the more interesting it becomes. The relationships are not as simple as "Ranmaru and his merry band of friends," so they are designed to be interesting even when Ranmaru isn't present. While there are dramas due to the characters being long-lived, even the normal human heroine is a surprisingly good character. The manga is well done. As a service element for the younger audience, they also add subculture references here and there, but the author is an experienced 40-year-old so the references feel old. Is that not a problem for the archive generation? My personal favorite part was Ranmaru's T-shirt being NIN. I like music references such as the 27 Club, but perhaps they cut those out in the anime to help move the story faster. @lordgaara Oh yeah, one thing that one of the reviews mentioned is that there's going to be a live-action jdrama (Feels silly calling this that, since it's basically a non-drama) adaptation of it come February 14 this year (MyDramaList listing for this version). Honestly looking forward to that when it comes out, since it'll be a different take on the manga, different from the anime. I personally don't mind watching two adaptations of the same thing at the same time. Though given how the Japanese description talks about it, it seems like the live action adaptation will be a movie, as opposed to a TV series. EDIT: Oh... it got delayed too. So much for watching both adaptations simultaneously. https://www.crunchyroll.com/news/latest/2025/1/15/babanbabanban-vampire-live-action-movie-release-delay |

Shows like this one make me glad that I check out the first episode of everything that is new in each season. Episodes 1 and 2 were hilarious with the deranged humor that is completely up my alley (and also some nice editing, when Rihito and Aoi both talk to Mori in the bathhouse). Just looking at the score and the BL tag (I generally don't go out of my way to watch BL, though I also don't mind it) I would've never picked this up. |

The reason this anime piqued my interest, is that the mangaka of the manga did a BL series I really liked, called Dousei Yankee Akamatsu Seven. It had some comedic elements, but still some serious stuff. And it was undoubtedly BL because of the romance btw the two male leads. I haven't read any of the other mangaka's work. I guess because the Vampire wants to suck the kid's blood, it's labeled as BL? Or because of the mangaka's past works...? But if there's no BL romance in this, it's gonna be a hard pass for me. I can tolerate some comedy anime...but this seems way too over the top. Review bombing it is dumb. But that's MAL for you. |

What I want to know is why Fairy Ranmaru doesn't have a bl tag, the male characters keep kissing each other. As Daviljoe193-chan said, Babanbabanban Vampire is a BL similar to Patalliro. The BL is definitely there, but it won't be appearing on the screen all the time. |

This show is freaking hilarious and I agree. It’s more comedy than anything else. I definitely don’t get any BL vibes from it at all. Maybe it goes in that direction eventually? Idk. |

I don't like BL, so I don't watch them. This is not BL, as stated above, this is a comedy. A damn good one. The score bombing proves that while helpful, one must take the MAL scores with a grain of salt. This show's first episodes had me laughing more than most anime comedies. If you laughed at American Psyco, you might laugh at this too. |

I agree, tho i came here for the BL but i stayed for the comedy i was like “oh its that kind of BL” lol But maybe it’s tagged with BL cuz the vampire stated that he likes to suck boys blood more than anything? And he’s way more pervert about them like getting boner and such. Tho its more like Boys obsesses than boys love ๐ |

@giveup-the-ghost this mangaka was the artist, the writer of Dousei Yankee Akamatsu Seven is another bl mangaka called SHOOWA. i think Babanbabanban Vampire is this author first original manga with bl elements. His other bl work, 2together, he also worked as the artist, he didn't come up with the story. Since the original was a thai bl novel. |

@kamishiro Ah ok, you're right. I forgot there are separate people for the story and illustration. |

@giveup-the-ghost, in Dousei Yankee yes, not here, Hiromasa is the author and artist of this manga. |
