Ye, this episode is about who can stay loyal and commit to their mission. Mireille takes it better and tbh, she still represents someone to rely on this season.

Looks like this is all building up for the season finale with the prep. Ars still has a leadership role while Fam serves as an important member for their cause. This looks like it will be rushed.

Only one episode left, I don't think we'll get to see the end of this war in this season. Maybe there'll be a sequel announcement soon?

Convoluted plan that makes no sense.
An ambush that had to be discovered through false information... but any army would have been looking for an ambush anyway.
Firebombs that will kill soldiers when they come in contact with fire, but no soldiers would be in the fire to get hit by the bombs.
But the firebombs are just to show that they got tricked to set fire to the forest to stop the ambush.
But no one would stop an ambush by setting fire to a forest.
But soldiers are in the forest anyway and would die in the fire.
Lots of other nonsense none of which makes the least bit of sense.
This show is so bloody stupid it's painful.
This isn't The Princess Bride, it's not a comedy. Vizzini only works in a comedy.

This seemed more like a filler episode, but it was still interesting. Thinking that Tomas and Mireille could become the strongest leaders if they were in good terms and supported each other…

I wonder where Licia Pleide (Ars’s wife) disappeared? We did not get to see her for a long time.

I hope the final episode will not be terribly rushed. But I'm getting a bad feeling..

Finally some Thomas and Mireille backstory. Actually really helpful for understanding their diverging paths. Vasamarque might do some evil shit, but he did believe in Thomas’ father innocence and it creates this interesting contrast between Thomas’ loyalty to him vs Mireille’s to Ars and Courran. To Thomas, he’s not an evil guy, but someone who stood by him and gave him a purpose in life. Similar to how Mireille feels about her new employer.

They really humanised the conflict between the two siblings and their lord’s and this finale is shaping up to be great. I hope we get a s3 announcement because I don’t really see how this gets wrapped up satisfactorily in just one more ep! I do have the books on standby so I’ll be ready

Yknow,i'd actually like for the group fail and Thomas at least succeeding some of it.For once hes not acting all high and mighty thinking he would easily won as before.

But honestly feel like they gonna see through it.That was really cold Mirielle accusing their father without rly knowing the truth.Tho i think its gonna be revealed their dad was a traitor and she got banished for trying to dig it up.Oh and Vasmarque was playing Thomas knowing the entire time.

@Builder45 Can't really agree there - never really liked Tomas that much. While it's true that he is intelligent, his and his father's blind loyalty is not. While Mirielle has had her share of issues, she has the ability to doubt and not be overly trusting, as well also can think for herself, which puts her head and shoulders above him.

We got a decent backstory on both Mirielle and Thomas and how they became strategists. While they are both smart and brilliant I disagree on Thomas' and his dad's blind loyalty as it has screwed their dad by dubious accusations that may or may not have been true and Thomas may be headed down the same path.

Anyway, with only one episode to go I hope that the finale isn't rushed and instead a 3rd season is shortly announced.

Thomas: We'll lay an ambush in the forest, knowing that they'll burn it down!
Minion: The forest...that we're in right now?
Thomas: Yes, but don't worry, I've also filled the forest with explosives!
Minion: The forest that we're in right now?
Thomas: Yes, but don't worry, the explosives will only kill the enemy.
Minion: The explosives that are in the forest we're in, and which the enemy is not in, will kill the enemy and not us?
Thomas: Exactly! And then we'll charge into the explosions...to victory!
Minion: Brilliant plan sir.

All that idiocy aside, as I've noted before, "master strategist" in this show is portrayed as almost literal omniscience. It makes no sense except as a pretty weak plot device. Ironically, they specifically reference the mock battle, and this is the same exact problem I had with that episode as well (that they equate "strategy" with creating a plan that requires perfect knowledge of what the enemy will do and then having the enemy to act exactly like you want them to act in response to your every action).

It looks like they have tried to make us empathize with Thomas and Vasmarque. It's great that they finally developed Mireille.

Although Thomas is smart and loyal, his past and bad relationships seem silly. Feeling inferior clouds his judgment, making him loyal to the wrong person. It is possible that his father was not as innocent as he thought. Or maybe in the end he will learn that his master is actually responsible for his father's death, as Mireille was banished, probably because she discovered something thanks to her intelligence.

There is only one episode left, and the war is not over yet. Who knows, maybe they will announce a third season.

the brother's plan seems fundamentally flawed, if he knew they were going to try to burn the forest why would he conceal the explosives in the forest with his own troops? we the whole series has been pretty much showcased that magic in this world's warfare is primarily used as artillery and artillery defense. there would be no reason for a solder to manually burn the forest if mages can do it at a distance. this guy is supposed to be the top military tactician of the opposing side, how can he forget this fundamental flaw?

@Sokah i think Tomas' strategy is really good. If Ars agrees to a truce because of fear of the large weapon, Thomas wins. If Ars calls the bluff and attacks he gets ambushed, Tomas wins. If Ars burns the forest bombs explodes, which may give Tomas an advantage.

Maximizing Win Percentage is at play. I hope Mirielle sees through Tomas plan so Ars won't write anymore condolence letters

This episode had a lot of:
"But do *they* know that we know, that they know, that we know,...?"
moments, which obviously I loved.

I just can't Thomas seriously in that midriff top. I can see why he can't stand his sister though. She was too cold and heartless even as a kid. She had psycho vibes. I was wondering if she helped set her father up.

The rivalry of the Grangeon siblings, where Mireille thrived and Thomas lacked, he always stood in her shadow. But the evictment of Mireille due to her misaligned allegiance against the family, giving Thomas the chance to finally chase her.

Vasmarque checking on Thomas and reassuring that his allegiance holds strong, it's the same with Couran knowing that they'll face Thomas soon. But a messenger from Verzud's headman with the call to have a truce, it feels that this matter is more than meets the eye. And true to their history, their father getting executed with his heirs treated like commoners after the stripping of their titles, as much as Thomas dislikes the idea towards Mireille's carefree attitude, this is the end of the road for one of them.

True to what the messenger had surmised, the truce offer has become quite the dilemma to prove the large-scale weapon's usage, which comes into question of the mock battle they had back in Season 1, which is exactly the plan that Mireille first proposed for the training before the war. But Thomas still being at an advantage to turn things around, it's an all-out war that would decide life or death, where Vasmarque shared his vision, he swears his allegiance to him, alongside the soldiers under his guard.

For once, there was a cinch of humanity on Thomas's end, and I appreciate that by giving both sides their end of the deal.
Their game of strategic chess, for the finale episode ahead.

Episode 11 and me with the traditional logic questions:
Well, you knew there was a trap, but you didn't know not to walk into it? Oh, man.
It's the dumbest thing to fight the enemy on his territory (a place he's prepared).
It is clear that they will get out of it in the 12th episode thanks to the 'plot armor', but for the three strategists of the mc-kun they are generally a bit 'wooden'.
