I just watched the first few episodes of the live-action adaptation by Toei that's airing now and it's pretty fun! It has some big names attached, too. Koichi Sakamoto, a very famous director of tokusatsu (he's worked on Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, and even Power Rangers), is in charge and Hirono is played by the son of the actor who played the original Kamen Rider. And the best part for people not as interested in tokusatsu is that Kitakura is played by Mamoru Miyano in what I think is his first on-screen role! Also, Blue Encount does the OP.

I am watching it too.

Love all the references to Toku here and there

Sad it’s ending soon ( 2 more episodes 😭)

I'm loving the references, too! They get some deep cuts in there! Like mentioning Changerion or talking about really specific plot points of some shows (hope no one watching hadn't seen Kamen Rider 555 yet, though, because they sure dropped a massive spoiler).

And it's interesting seeing so much focus on Gavan. At first I was confused they were going to a Gavan show, since it's over 40 years old and I wouldn't think there'd still be stage shows just for it, until I realized that Gavan was brand new when the manga came out, so it makes some sense.

@myrmidon_mamori there was a gavan movie in 2012, and a pirate sentai crossover in 2016.
I wanted to say it was just yesterday but 2012 was when I started watching toku.... oh well.

I REALLY like the wingman tokusatsu series, it has an an early heisei charm. it carries itself with dignity.
whacky sentai humor made me leave rider shows forever.
