Where's my 2nd year song? What a bait.
In the end, Tomari just didn't want her aneja to get hurt anymore since Natsumi failed countless times to catch her dream before and decided to just live for mahnee instead of chasing her dream. Eventually, Natsumi found what's more important than the money, the friendship from being a school idol.

Ushiku, a new city to visit.
next episode, Shanghai!?

Locations:
Ushiku Station
Ushiku Daibutsu
Ushiku Chateau
the potential location for the Onitsuka house

Interesting backstory for Natsumi and Tomari. Now we know why Natsumi got obsessed with money.

Tomari's behavior is quite understandable because she cares about her sister a lot. She only wants to protect her.

Friends > money. It's as simple as that. :)

Tomari is just like that right now because she loves her sister very much.

2 and half hours to commute.

Kanon can already convince Margarete to go to places with Liella.

From the start I could guess that Tomari was actually not a bad little sister. Joining Kanon and Margarette, she did everything for her older sister, Natsumi. Tomari wants to convey to Natsumi that trying hard to pursue dreams does not always require results, in fact sometimes reality is crueler than the dreams we want to achieve. This is proof that Tomari actually really loves Natsumi and doesn't want her to get hurt. She just hoped that Natsumi could always smile happily.

I actually hope Kanon doesn't have to pretend to be friendly with Liella's members, she left Liella because she helped Margarete beat Liella, but if she still acts naive and uncompetitive like that, it's natural that Margarete can't accept her attitude. I think Kanon must show her seriousness and strong determination to defeat Liella. If not, there's no point in Kanon forming a new group with Margarete. I really like Liella but now I really hope Kanon is more serious about supporting Margarete so she can realize her ambition to defeat Liella. Kanon has something in common with Margarette, namely failing many times in the past. It's a bit unfortunate I thought at least at the end there was a song sung by Class 2 member Liella but it turned out it was only Natsumi who seemed to want to convey her wishes and feelings towards her little sister.

By the way, I'm also curious who exactly the mysterious girl who appears in the next episode is. Could it be a former member of U's?

NOOO YOU CANT END BEFORE MY 2ND YEAR SONG WTF??! Great episode tho, but man I wanted to get an emotional performance there at the end lol

Tomari gets the best imouto award, so nice to finally understand she and natsumi’s relationship. She’s been her big sister’s number 1 supporter and fan for so long and just got tired of seeing Natsumi be hurt. But failure is a part of life! We stumble and fall and it’s just about being willing to pick yourself up and try again. Sure, the school idol thing might not work out with Natsumi, but even if it doesn’t, it’s something she wanted to try and she’ll look back on these days fondly.

A lot of people have hated on Natsumi ever since she got introduced because of her money gimmick, but now that people have seen her backstory and how that all came from her failures, she should be much more popular lol.

Shiki having trackers on everyone phone is hilarious too, that loud ass ring tone 😂 Also, Kanon lying and having everyone stop at the giant buddha for a pic was great!

Unsurprisingly, this has turned out to be one of the worst editions to the Love Live franchise. SuperStar has really veered off in the wrong path, which I feel like started way back in s2, but s3 has really aggravated all those issues tenfold. You can't even consider this main cast as actual characters anymore. as they're now just torn up and rebuilt altogether with mere duct tape. This case with Natsumi's convoluted character drama is all the more reflective of such a debacle. You're putting all these girls through these uninspiring recycled "personal struggles" for what? The generic school idol group formula but even worse? The more I watch, the more I'm bewildered at how this even got 3 seasons.

Don't get high hope as LL never doing cross-gen group cameo. It's definitely one of Tang Keke' family member, either her mom, or her older sister as it's happen at her homeland.

The recycle plot story on other family member convince her doing in school idol activities (before this, Mari's mother in LL Sunshine movie & Shioriko's older sister in Nijigasaki) will happen again, in Shanghai ofc.

I think this episode would have been better if it was a part of S2, before Natsumi and Liella won Love Live and achieved ultimate idol success.

You do remember that Kanon's goal is not to defeat Liella, but to push them to get better before rejoining them with Margarete in tow?

There was a decent amount of really good comedy in this one, as well as a very beautiful and touching story for Natsumi and her sister.
Also, the direction felt very clever and colorful to me, even better than what the show usually does imo.

Overall, easily my favorite episode of the season so far.
It made me think that the show was finally 'back', doing what it knows to do and with talent to boot.

This episode just shows how symptomatic the problems with this season are with plot holes you could fly a planet through. We all know this is leading to the creation of the 11 member Liella so just get on with it and stop making me loose trust in the protagonist by forcing her to put up with that pink haired narcissist

The idea that Natsumi didn't notice a giant fucking mechanical bug on her phone for so long when her phone is so important to her is just ridiculous. It's just yet another piece of really lazy writing from this season to speed the plot along, because how else are the gang supposed to figure out where Natsumi and Tomari went without a convenient tracker on one of them telling them exactly where they went? At least make the tracker tiny so it's more plausible that someone so obsessed with their phone wouldn't notice it until it started yelling, for fuck sake.

Natsumi's backstory is also really, really stupid. We got a glimpse of it in season 2, but now we've seen more of it I just can't feel any sympathy for her at all. Every dream she decided on was impossibly ambitious for 99% of people (let alone a child), and she gave up on all of them at the first sign of failure? We're supposed to feel bad for her when she never persisted with anything, never tried her hardest in the face of adversity and just immediately accepted failure every single time?

Tomari's characterisation in relation to this is laughably predictable and boring as well, and just completely falls flat for me because I cannot sympathise with Natsumi and her "struggles" at all. I feel nothing for this annoying Mary Sue who has no interest in anything other than "protecting" her elder sister in ways that Natsumi never even asked for. Also, Natsumi winning Love Live in the previous year wasn't enough to convince Tomari that Natsumi's found a viable dream this time? What sense does that make?

I think with this poor episode, the Onitsuka sisters are now comfortably my two least-favourite Liella members and there's little that can happen now to change that. In fact, Natsumi is firmly in contention for my least-favourite Love Live character of all time, and this episode only made me like her even less than I already did.

Congratulations Superstar season 3, you've had one genuinely good episode out of 4 so far! The continuing downward spiral of this iteration of Love Live is just aggravating at this point, and so incredibly disappointing too.

Loved this episode, that moment when those two lost hope hit hard and Tomari losing that sun in her life that was Natsumi never giving up : ( , it is pretty funny how Natsumi went from me despising her to becoming one of or maybe my favorite girl in Superstar.

I think some folks in this thread just need to sit down and watch the cute girls be silly and talk about following their dreams instead of hyper analyzing it lol, it is what it is I guess.

And this was a nice one, I liked the focus on the Onitsuka sisters, I knew it was coming with the introduction of Tomari so it’s nice to get it pretty early in the season. So both girls have a reason for being the weirdos they are, Natsumi is so obsessed with money because she fell back on it when she couldn’t achieve any of her dreams (tbh tho, seems like she gave up too early for them all lol), and Tomari became someone that’s very matter of fact and by the numbers because she hated seeing her sister get knocked down so many times and just wanted to see her smile, both sad and sweet stuff, but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time until Tomari turns a new leaf.

Thankfully for Natsumi tho, she’s got her fellow 2nd years to pull her back up right now, very nice moment between them, and I really like that saiying, “no rain, no rainbow”, an incredibly true statement. And we unfortunately got robbed of a 2nd years song at the end there, I totally thought we were about to skip the ED with them dressed like that but it didn’t happen lol, great end to the episode nonetheless, next week looks like it might be Keke focused so that should be interesting.

All the power to you if you enjoyed it, but it says a lot when even the fansubbers on Nyaa have gotten physically aggravated by this episode to the point of where they’ve considered quitting. And these are usually people who are devoted enough to the respective shows to even make fansubs to begin with.

“The guy with the worst opinions known to man”

There's plenty of other people on this site that'd be more befitting of that description alone. Seems like you got quite the hate boner for me even though I have no idea who you are and never interacted with you once prior to this, at least from what I remember.

Peak Love Live right here, this episode was so good it felt like watching a movie, the only bad thing was they don't having a new song at the end but whatever.

We finally got lore about the Onitsuka sisters and it was great. I always liked Natsumi but now thanks to this episode I absolutely adore her, her smile is truly beautiful ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
She and Kinako were the only good additions in S2.

btw why the fuck does Shiki have a tracking device on the members? FUCK THAT BITCH, SHE IS THE WORST

Bruh, some of the comments here... and I thought my opinion on Superstar was harsh lol.

So, no second-years song? Well, that sure is disappointing. They were even wearing cute matching raincoats :/

Quite decent episode if you ask me. Though I do think an episode focused on Natsumi's background should have happened way sooner.

oh, well... expected heavy arguments, "the group is over" over-reactions or something, instead it was mostly a episode with focus on the two sisters, even if without witnessing neither the 2nd years song nor the younger sister's reaction.

Hardest moment to watch was Natsumi's notebook ripped apart and thrown in the dustbin, yeah, i know a thing or two about it... not just when i had her age, always.

"What dream are you going to chase next?" is such a beautiful line, even if tragic in this context.

Natsumi probably got one of the best arcs in the whole franchise, just due to how her realism contrasts with the idealist themes of Love Live. Her chemistry with Tomari being like Sae and Rin from Blue Lock elevates the writing further. Though realism in the franchise is not as original since we have Nico (as another comment mentioned) and Aqours, what makes Natsumi's conflict different is her shift to a pragmatic philosophy which still remains after joining Liella. Gotta appreciate the mature approach considering this series is mainly an NHK kids show.

Another good point of this episode is how they integrated the 2nd years' relationship into Natsumi's conflict. Redeemed the season 2 writing even if just a tiny bit.
