Ok, let me see if I got this straight and I'll try to be simple.

At first most easy way to kill all the monsters was with a long rage wide area-attack, but this would damage the area so it's a no go.
The second idea was to kill one by one, but would take to long. So Kana suggest a third option: attack from below using the sewers to get them all in one go.

Ok, episode 4 comes, they succeed at making a magic attack through the sewers killing all the monster with-in the sewers... but also above ground? we clearly see monsters everywhere on top of buildings and on alleys not just on top of the sewers taps, but the magic sweep them all the same because reasons, wtf?

Ok, you might say: it's a magic girl show, magic doesn't have to make sense, and I get it, but the point of all this 2 episodes was to show than they do things differently from other magic girls by being smarter and gentler. I don't see how they couldn't do the same with an aerial attack, because this was the same with extra steps.

So... did I miss something in their plan or in the way shows how they got thing done?

To put it simply, the major magical reaction was placed underground, to prevent it from destroying the historical district, the following magical resonance was used to destroy the monsters.

It really didn’t take Newton & Einstein to understand this.
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

@ejleon Ok, that's sounds reasonable, but why the major magical reaction couldn't be placed on the air far enough to prevent damage and then rain the shots with laser focus accuracy.

@BiobulletM From what I could gather in the episode, it seems like they can't control the initial magical reaction, or else the magical reaction is so large and dangerous that it would cause damage no matter what they did.

It seemed like multiple characters were saying that the magical reaction in the open air above option, would destroy the town no matter what they tried to do, hence why she suggested doing it underground.

My question would be, if it would destroy the town above, why wouldn't it destroy the underground too?

I don't see that not causing problems for the city.

Sure the town is untouched above, but what about the pipes and electrical lines?

My best guess is that they used the underground magic tactic to wipe out most of the monsters in one go while preserving and not damaging the area. Then after that, they could've just mopped up the rest of the stragglers with significantly less time taken. The main reason they didn't wanna do it one by one was that it would've been to costly for the client, right?

@ejleon Well, we could also say the served to channel the magic as some kind of glassware for a chemical reaction. But the question remains, it wasn't a "empty" channel because it also has cables and pipes

@SuspiciousScout Not exactly, the insurance would have paid any damages, they didn't want to level the whole place because the historical value of all the buildings.

Yeah, I could have just been sewers I guess, which would been acting as a funnel to cause the magic to travel underground to the other manholes.

I was just curious about what would happen if it was more than that.
