I didn't think I would like this, but I was so wrong.

I'm happy they both let the veil down and showed who they were. He wasn't lying when he said he didn't care what they think.

Exactly how I imagined Kirishima to sound lol

I hope they animate all the volumes, the manga is soo good

@sweetnothing1 There are some scenes in the opening credits from volume 8 of the manga. That is the last full volume that's been published, so if they do go that far in the anime there isn't any content left for a second season yet.

Yoshino is easily my favourite female protagonist, and I've never seen anyone quite like her in anime or manga. I’ve always hoped the manga’s success would inspire more like her. Now, I hope the same for the anime.
Truthfully, I was a little worried about the anime’s success when I heard Deen was the studio behind it. I agree with others that the direction is a little lacking. The animation is stiff and it suffers from poor pacing. It’s obvious the budget is pretty low.
Still, I'm just going to relax and enjoy one of my favourite characters getting animated.

I was surprised to see the opening animated events from recent chapters! I was also shocked they had the guts to show Kirishima being his f*ckboy self in the OP. A lot of fans turned on him for that, but I think it just makes this story more fun.
I laughed at how ooc the ED made Yoshino. She would've hated it. 😂

Not too sure how to feel about this one.

The title lead me to believe that the cast would be adults, but they are supposed to be 17 while looking like actual adults in their late 20s (feels like the hello fellow kids meme).

Produced by Deen Studios can mean 2 things, it will be good/decent in animation or it will be an absolute mayhem in later episodes in production quality (some of the shots with weird web animation style already give me some bad omens).

But, I do like female characters with an actual spine, so I guess I'll stick around for a few more episodes just to see how far can Yoshino go thru this charade.

Unique animation, if a bit rough/stiff. Looking forward to the interactions between our leads. Our Tokyo boy seems to have an odd taste in women, probably from growing up as a city yakuza where as our girl had a pretty normal life, or as normal as a yakuza granddaughter can...hopefully they meet in a "middle" area

oh man i liked the manga for this because their dynamic was interesting despite being toxic, for once. but this adaptation is just typical deen, already looking super mediocre with the animation. and i'm not sure i like zoro's VA and katsura's in the roles that they're in here. also expected yoshino to sound a little more bold but ye i'm glad to see her here.

Finally. I was having a discussion about this with a long time friend of mine just a few weeks ago, we've been watching anime since the early 90's for sure. But what I had brought up to him was that I noticed a decided lack of "adult' looking anime characters in series today. Even when the character IS an adult, maybe they are a salary worker or something. But like, no so many series now tend to have a very similar character design trend where especially with the woman characters, they still have a very "young" look to them, sometimes bordering on the child-like look. Dont get me started on the 400-year old Demon that looks like she's 8 but its okay she's 400 so go ahead and sexualize her nonsense.
I remember tons of anime from the 90's with characters who you knew were adults. Cowboy Bebop. Trigun. Golden Boy. Record of Lodoss War. Escaflowne, etc.
But as soon as I saw the trailer for this anime, I knew I should watch it as soon as I saw the style of the characters. They LOOK like adults! FINALLY.

Its just a breath of fresh air to me, I guess.

You can smell the toxicity between these two for miles hahahaha. Having said that, mediocre animation, violence that is not lacking, arranged marriage between yakuzas 🤔🤔🤔. This can go very well or very badly and For now I'm betting on the latter. The future will say

Studio Deen producing shit as usual and turns out it's Romance with no Psychological tag in sight so it's just going to be a glorified toxic relationship. Feels more like shoujo than seinen.

One of the more interesting shows this season!
- Oral cigarettes continues to never miss as anime openings :)
- Art style is a bit fugly but it’s not too bad
- Didn’t expect them to show much yakuza shit, geez that head press torture method is brutal
- Yoshino is…. I’m not too sure if I like her or hate her. I guess I’ll see

Kirishima is unhinged, Yoshino might have her work cut out.. though her selling a kidney like it's nothing isn't sane behaviour. She's going all in messing this guy's life up. I like the toxicity - it's already a lot of fun.

It seems like this will be more interesting than I initially thought. I really like Yoshino's character; Kirishima seems to be quite the masochist, and I'm intrigued to see how their relationship will develop. I'm not sure yet if it will turn toxic. I just hope the protagonist keeps her strong-willed attitude because, from the beginning of the episode, she gave off that impression. I'm still not sure if the part about selling her kidney was real or just a bluff. Overall, it was an interesting first episode!

Is it just me or are the scenes kinda choppy? Everything just happens so quickly and some of the themes are very cliche and a little cringey ngl. It’s only the first episode though so I can’t judge too hard. The art style is unique which is probably why a lot of people don’t like it. I’m a fan—I think the art style really matches the story and it’s “aesthetic”. I came because I heard The Oral Cigarettes was making another opening song for an anime. I’ll still give it a chance though so don’t get butthurt y’all

From BL to Organized Crime, Studio Deen takes on mangaka Asuka Konishi's seinen series about a deranged couple in a delinquent setting.

The Oral Cigarette's OP is interesting, just the same as Yoshino's ED with the slick dancing.

The high school girl of Yoshino Somei being called on by her father Renji because of the merging of Yakuza groups...and also he's called to matchmake his daughter to Kirishima Miyama, whom despite being also another Yakuza member, he just looks like any ordinary high school young man at the most. At least he's the popular boy in school that's the envy of all girls that Yoshino transfers in to from her home in Osaka, and Yoshino being in the line of fire is just normal, but his hidden delinquent duties are at least proven of why he belongs in a Yakuza setting.

More rumours behind Yoshino's back, as well as her getting picked up by guys...if there's anything related to her, Kirishima means business behind his facade of a smile that is telling of his true nature. And for someone being sheltered by fellow Yakuza, he must've been noticing Yoshino to be the same quality as him, but she isn't, and that ires him as he breaks his facade, as Yoshino continues to endure the bullying in school.

The ultimatum from Yoshino's father to give her 1 year to make Kirishima fall head over heels with her, then dump him before going back home to Osaka, all men are jerks around Yoshino's life, but the follow-up to convince him that she sold one of her kidneys for tons of money, she now also means business should anyone try to twist her up. And that ploy...actually works for Kirishima to fall in love with her, once again rocking the Yakuza world.

It's defintely an interesting take on the Yakuza side of things, though this better NOT be like last Fall's Ojou to Banken-kun a.k.a A Girl & Her Guard Dog (that show was just horrible).
@KANLen09 I couldn't watch more than one or two episodes of Girl & Her Guard Dog because it gave me the ick. I would think this series is not the same. Sure, Kirishima is a toxic and an obsessive character over Yoshino, but he also appears cool-headed and has that facade of a nice guy in front of others. Yoshino also is very strong-willed and has no problem putting Kirishima in his place, as the series goes on, and she doesn't necessarily care or listen to him if he doesn't want her to do something or be around certain people. I have some hope for the adaptation!

Everyone trashing the art style like it's not exact to the manga artist's style. I doubt she was thinking that one day, her work would be adapted on screen. It's also a very individual and unique art style. So boo on you!

I'm concerned about the pacing. The manga is ongoing, and the mangaka has slowed down on releasing new chapters. I wonder how much creative liberty they will take for the show.

Welp, the good Deen anime run was fun while it lasted, with two of them last season, but now it's back to the good ol' classic shit Deen anime. And y'know what, this time around it ain't even the fault of both the original source material and Deen, it's just Deen's fault because my fuck they couldn't have chosen a more uglier artstyle for this anime.

Yakuza anime are nothing new, in fact, they're always pretty bad lol. I mean, Ojou to Banken-kun from last year is a great example. Albiet, this one is already better even if they both look like cancer, simply because the story for this one actually seems rather decent unlike Ojou to Banken-kun that was shit from the start. Though, I have to say, seeing our main girl, Yoshino, on the cover with a knife and being so casual about yakuza life made me think she'd be too much for him. So, her acting timid now feels strange. Even in tough crime families, killings aren’t that common, but you’d expect her not to be so shocked by someone covered in blood with her yakuza background.

My only complaint right now is that I kind of wish she’d been stronger and talked those girls down. But, since it’s her first day in a new environment, she’s still figuring things out. It’s smart of her to hold back instead of being aggressive and risking misunderstandings that could ruin her first impression. Better to assess the situation first and act appropriately than come off too strong and make people judge her right away. This dude on the other hand though, "I want you to mess my life up".... bro.

I'll just have to deal with the artstyle, because the story was decent enough. Good enough start, I guess.
the artstyle is exactly like the manga, so there's really no reason to fault Studio Deen. I've read the manga and I'm glad they didn't change the artstyle to make the characters look 'pretty'.

I don't think you understand why Yoshino was so timid. Kirishima already explained to us why she's not what he expected her to be like. Yoshino and her grandpa's side of the yakuza family is based in Osaka, but in a town rather than the big city. Yoshino and her grandpa spoke in a more country-town Japanese accent (Kansai dialect). She was sheltered from all the yakuza stuff by her grandpa who secretly assigned people to watch over her when she's roaming in town. Like you saw in the scenes in ep1, she's never been 'hit on'/ dragged away into an alley and never been bullied at school. She had a comfortable life even though she is the granddaughter of a powerful yakuza family.

Kirishima ... well, he is something for sure

Then you would be surprised to know that the anime art style is the later chapters manga art style. In the earlier chapters the art style was WAYYY more cartoony and rudimentary. I actually really like the improved art style that appears later on in the manga and was taken as the default art style since the first episode of the anime.

OH YES, THE GREAT TOXIC RELATIONSHIP FOOD WE ALL NEED TO EAT AT TIMES. Thank you for the food!

Honestly pretty good, didn't expect that. Thought it would be a lot more trashy. I wish the male lead looked a little better, but that's fine. Everything was thrown in my face, but it was a solid first episode. I thought I wouldn't like it because from the trailer it seemed like he would fall head over heels for her pretty quickly and end the ✨ TOXICITY ✨ and just turn into a good old boring romance anime (which I don't mind but if, with this set up, it turns into a normal romance anime then I'm not getting what I signed up for), but he's beyond that in weird so that's cool. Getting a boner because she was pissed was ridiculously awesome lol

But SELLING YOUR KIDNEY to what? Prove a point? LMAO absolutely crazy.

I have mixed feelings on this premiere. On one hand, I love the story and think the character design is good, with some nice shots now and then; on the other hand, I found the pacing choppy and disjointed, and most of the animation just flat and lifeless, not to mention cartoonish.

I'll still follow the show because I like the premise and I love Yoshino, but I think this could've been better handled.
