I literally confuse tensura anime main source is LN or manga? MAL put it Manga as main source, and since we almost caught up to manga content does it mean S4 only have 1 cour? Cause they wait for manga to update and they wont surpass the manga? Or they use LN and make it regular 24 eps (2 cour) for S4?

The main source is still LN not manga. The same as with previous seasons.

The light novel is the main source, from what I understand there’s enough content in the light novel for quite a few more seasons

At the moment enough to get to season 7 if they keep going with 3 volumes for a season.

@charliex3 As manga and light novel reader I'm afraid it is not. This season as well as previous seasons most likely based their source on manga rather than LN. Here are the reason why:

1) In the official website (the Japanese one) of each of the seasons they credited Kawakami Taiki (he is the one who made the illustration for the manga). While the illustrator for the LN (Mitz Vah) is not mention.

2) There are certain scene that are slightly different between manga and LN. And anime follow the manga in those scene. One example I can give is back in season 1, when Shizu visited Tempest (at that time, it only a settlement). In LN, she barely talk with Rimuru then go berserk while summoning Ifrit. In manga, they have a talk about their world and she even riding Ranga when touring around the settlement. There are others minor difference but I can't recall it right now.

3) The anime itself pace their release date based on the current manga progress. With how much volumes the LN has, it kinda weird that the gap for each seasons are longer especially this is the biggest project that studio 8bit has. Surely they would focus on this series rather than other series.

These are the reason why I believe the anime follows manga hence, MAL also put manga as their source material.

I don't think there is an official statement, and I think it's somewhere in between, because 1) the anime clearly follows the manga art and 2) the LN author is somewhat involved.

But regardless, if we are talking about production/release dates, the most important thing to consider is that the manga producer is a big part in the anime committee.

By the time S4 starts broadcasting, the manga will probably have enough buffer, as it happened with all previous seasons.

Note also there is another movie confirmed, which will fill the gap. I wouldn't expect S4 release any sooner than 2 years, maybe even 3.

The manga is an updated version of the LN. And the anime follows it most of the time.
But there are changes the manga made and the anime retconned, and instead went with the LN version.
And then there are things that only happen in the anime.
So it's a mixed bag.

Every season of the anime catches up to the manga, but never overtakes it. It's a common marketing strategy.

You are correct, the main source is the manga and they can't surpass that and adapt the novel because the production is mostly funded by the manga publisher. They haven't surpassed the manga in the last three seasons as well, each time the managa is 1-3 months ahead of anime like rn they adapted ch 118 in the finale of S3 and ch 122 of manga came out. The anime is also following its own cannon on top of the source material cannon where anime original characters from OVA and movies appear. The reason for the anime original content is the same, they just have the fans enjoy some new content while the managa adapts the LN volumes which the next season will adapt like they did rn with the announcement of a movie alongside S4 because they will need the manga to have 30+ chapters, and ot only has 4 currently plus it's monthly as well so it'll take atleast 2 years for the next season to come out but atle we get a movie next year lol.

@OVERLORD_05 this is what i tought.. so in order s4 to have 24 eps+ we need to wait until manga have enough content right? theres no way they surpass the manga (bcoz not enough material yet) unless they goin with LN material.. so we need 2 years until manga have enough material for another 2 cour?

I'm surprised they already announced a 4th season even if the 3rd was garbage to the maximum.. fucking meeting simulation

@LukaPochi tensura is literally a world building series, if you don't like it then don't watch it.
They could've handled the meetings a bit better but still, solid season, one of my favorites tbh.

I've read somewhere that in order to speed up the adaption, each monthly manga chapter contains 7-8 more pages now. This'll be akin to releasing 2-2.5 more chapters in a year. Can anybody confirm this?

The manga will likely remain the source of the anime since it pretty much already storyboards the plot in visual form. It sometimes takes years to go straight from ln to anime while manga adapts far quicker.

@MightyRoos I recon S4 is gonna be early to mid 2026 with the movie before to allow the manga to catch up as I also believe they are following the manga especially with them using the manga art style

@LukaPochi I highly recommend you to drop Tensura bc next seasons/movie will be similar in terms of storytelling, action and character/world development ☺️. This series is well-known for its great story and worldbuilding in anime and light novel formats, if I am not wrong the light novel received a prize some time ago.
