A profound anime, one that strays from the mould. The best romance animes are the ones that are real, grounded, messy at times, imperfect with flawed characters present. This is why enjoyed watching this.

I think it treated such a delicate issue with care and attention, with real human interactions along the way.

Do you think this issue is dealt with in a realistic manner? How would you act if such a situation was sprung upon you? Would you do the same as the MCs here? How common is such an issue anyway? I mean, has anyone her been in that position or known someone in it? How did they deal with it?

To finish up I want to say this about anime in general. I think the concept of faux-incest in animes is disgusting and fowl, no matter how "comedic" or fictional or whatever. Its what turned me off Roshidere, I mean how can you have a sister joke about "wincest" and other shit like that, you're in your late teens ffs. Maybe I'm deeping it too hard but even so, I just think the mere mention of it is reprehensible.

incest can onpy happen if the two parties are blood related.
they arent.
you usually dont fall in love with your brother/sister, because you grow up with them.
they didnt.
the only reason incest is prohibited,is because of the possibility of drooling children.
their wouldnt.
objectively they can do whatever they want.

Yea you are DEFINITELY deeping it too hard. Like don't get me wrong, it's completely fine and normal to be turned off by incest/faux-incest. But calling a show "reprehensible" and completely disregarding it for something as simple as a character joking around is weak mentality.

Because she is an otaku that constantly has to suppress her real personality around her family at home and around her friends at school, and can only really express herself around her brother. She doesn't actually want to screw her brother. She's just an otaku who loves otaku tropes and knows her brother is kinda the same so she uses him as an excuse to express herself.

Well technically in this situation they COULD do what they want, but actually becoming public is a different story. They wouldn’t know how their parents would react, or friends, and society, I’m sure that’s probably something they wouldn’t want to think about so they want to avoid it at all costs, though I’m probably gonna read the light novel so I’ll have to see how that goes

I don't think is realistic at all, is way too robotic, teens overthink stuff a lot, yes, but they still act on feelings. Astro Bot shows more emotion and human logic than these two.

I think these two handled the situation the best way the could do while not compromising their feelings.

I don't think I would have handled as good.

Hold on to it until we become independent and our parents' marriage is completed and we live apart from them, and then go through with it. The same way in-laws sometimes fall in love, i.e. my sister with my wife's brother type of in-law. They'd technically be siblings in law.

In fact, their concern by the end was mainly how their relationship would affect their parents', and the "but we're supposed to be brother and sister" conundrum came out of that, and was a sort of cope to try to deny their feelings. If you somehow got incest in your mind after watching, then your mind is damaged. That was not the issue. There are siblings, half siblings and siblings in law, and only the first 2 are incestuous.

I don't think their parents would need to separate to allow them to be together if they're no longer minors and dependent.

There's only one question to which that's an appropriate answer: how to become a braindead asshole unable to attack evil and defend good? A definitionally fence sitter on every issue. The kind of person to watch their spouse bang someone else.

Relativism is cancer.

I’m sure it’s possible to be in this situation. I mean the fact that they are strangers is repeated over and over by Saki , almost like she’s trying to convince herself. Both of them are holding back for the sake of their parents and their school friends, society. But I think it’s smart that they don’t immediately say I’m in love and they decide to explore their relationship more instead of jumping headfirst.

I think you are.

I'm generally turned off too by anything that uses the subject in an exploitative or skeevy way, but I don't think this show does that at all.

Plus, this it totally different from blood-related siblings. As the show mentions plenty of times, they only recently became step-siblings, it's not like they've lived and grown up together; they're practically strangers.

@IhnalakoKaina tbf that only makes sense for normative moral relativism, but understanding the situation is a good starting point unlike being limited to your own perspective and forcing it onto others. Relativism is studied in law schools for good reason while not practicing it in the most self-defeating way possible, like the absolute notion of relativism. But I think absolutism is more compatible with "cancer", especially for our hobbies. Most of the characters I like in anime are preferential, but some people won't see it that way. Their view of attacking evil would mean attacking me for liking certain fictional characters (e.g. how they look). That's why some people would hate koyomi araragi for his association with you know who. It's also funny that ur pfp is from the when they cry series and made me think of umineko.

Yeah they can, but socially it’s just a bit weird. Your friends, family etc probably wouldn’t wanna involve themselves with you or at least would be weirded out by it. Like out of all the people you pick you chose your step-sibling? There’s so many people just leave that one out 🤣

Absolutism? Believing there are absolute truths doesn't mean wanting to force them upon everybody else. It also doesn't mean being unable to understand the perspectives of people who choose evil over good. I understand why someone would want to take my money, but that doesn't make it right, or means I must accept it. More realistically, I understand why the qur'an / shari'a law says I must convert or die, but I still don't give a shit. And I wouldn't go out of my way to try to erase that line of thinking from the world, because I'm not an absolutist.

Holding a relativist view is absolutely not necessary in this case, is what I wanted to say. Because there's not a moral debate over asamura and saki's relationship. There's no impropriety, or taboo. It's just that if they got together, their parents would not be able to get married.

In the same way, you seem to think one's preferences must depend and correspond to one's morality, or that one's unable to appreciate things that may deviate from it, otherwise, you must be relativist.

I think we can categorically say that men like looking at porn. Relativism tries to justify that, while 'normality' (for lack of a better term) is simply saying: "True. It doesn't mean that it's right to do though".

I don't think there's such a thing as absolute relativism. You're either one, or you're not. You either believe there's truth and falsehood, superior and inferior, right and wrong, or you don't. Cultural is moral, that's why it is a cancer.
