This is a theory/speculation among the fanbase based on hints and not confirmed. The fanbase/readers think that Rosty is actually an ice clone of Elfie. She uses it to look over Will and be with him. Later events also highly suggests this possibilty. There's also his name Rosty which is close to the word Frosty. Also with this knowledge his behaviour pattern also makes a lot of sense cause we already know how obsessed she is with Will. I didn't come up with this and don't take any credit for it. Just wanted to share this here cause a lot of you might get weirded out by Rosty's behaviour. |

I kind of thought it's a clone also, since it reacted to the way Elfie did several times. Will said a few things about clones and how they don't have body heat. He can tell if someone was a clone. Plus, things about distances can be that she operate a clone from that far. I'm in two minds about it being a clone if it's a clone or not. Will said he can tell the difference in a clone, but he could choose to ignore the fact that it is a clone. |

That Julius doesn't have control over his clones like Elfie does and they leak out cold which creates ice crystals at their feet and thus how he can tell the difference. Elfie invented and has been using this spell since she was 2 so her power/control is not comparable to Julius, she's way far above. In that episode there was even a hint about Elfie and Rosty's connection when the scene transitions from Rosty to Elfie as Rosty was watching over Will and then Elfie was talking about the events occuring at the arena. Will stated that he could tell it was a clone, because the clone released a colder temperature than the original caster, and this was a part of his experience with the clones he played with as a kid. If Elfie has so much control over the spell that this is extremely hard to tell now, it was not expressed in the episode. And you are reading into the anime. Elfie could have any number of ways of knowing what was gong in the arena, Rosty could still be a human male with a crush on Will. |

I was actually doubting Rosty is even a guy. He totally behaves in feminine way, so it would make perfect sense. But I guess he has been made a dude for sole purpose of being allowed in male only dormitory. Additionally, this little trivia about him indicates, that he dislikes fire and fire magic, which would make sense if he is conjured with ice magic. I also noticed that Elfie had to somehow see Will's fight against Julius due to her flustered reaction, yet she was not only at the top of the tower at the time, but also asleep. As it is, it's very likely Rosty is Elfie'a remote doll created with ice magic (similar to the one Julius tried to mimic, but inferior) she controls while she is napping. |

I would think that the “Magia Vander” would have ways of viewing the contest for the crown, even from atop the tower, as it is a form of entertainment and test for advancement. They can’t all have “magic clones” to know what’s happening in the events. They are looking for more information on new recruits too. And assuming it is Elfie could be what the writer wants us to think, then they pull the rug out from under us. |

I will just throw this out there; Elfie created the clone spell at the age of 2 and is the same age as Will now 15. There is no way that she hasn’t already became stronger and gained more control over her ice magic and her clones. Making it more believable that Rosty Nowman could possibly be a clone that Elfie could control. His name even says he’s not a man. |

@BishopME That's also what I'm saying. Julius used an inferior version of the spell Elfie created when she was 2 which already looked believable but now after a decade noway she hasn't improved that magic further. Dunno why some people can't get this into their head. |

@MegamiRem @Ejleon After watching bits of episode 7 again and watching episode 8. I'm more convinced Rosti is a clone. During the date, Rosti behavior mirrors the same of Elfie in episode 7 somewhat. How he sulks when he finds out Will was going on a date with Collette looks similar to Elfie's. I might be reading too much in it. Since clones are probably a specialty of Elfie, her clones could be more human than anyone else, and she can ignore things that would easily detect them as clones. Like I said, I'm two minds over the whole ordeal. |

My thoughts were Rosty is not an ice clone, but some sort of Homunculus or avatar created by Elfie that she can possess or process info parallel to her actual self. I imagine a Magia Vander has some crazy shit like that. Plus Elfie knew what was going on through Rosty's eyes as well as Rosty's overall behavior. What they sort of showed in the anime, but can't remember if it was mentioned anywhere in the source or manga, they show Rosty's face after Will beats Julius (the frame where it shows all the important characters react in a split screen images), you see Rosty's eyes are all whited out and he looks like he's about to feint. But why that reaction? He had believed in him the whole time so it wasn't like he had his soul sucked out from worry or the intensity of what was going on...No, while the others were all reacting to the result, he was only thinking about Will's last statement that he was tormented by 10 of her....Elfie wasn't shown reacting in happiness during this part either. You just see her afterward all embarrassed trying to deny the tormenting thing |

There is a small detail in the anime episode 7, when Will tells Julius that elfaria is bullying Will with 10 clones. Rosty is shown panicking and then the scene switches to elfaria who is on top of the tower. and in LN, Elfaria often creates clones to help Will. Her clone infiltrates the library at night, looking for books or lessons so Will can survive the Academy. before going up the tower, elfaria left 1 of her clones to keep will. could be it rosty. why is rosty a man? Elfaria wants to always be close to will. If Rosty is a girl, she will not be able to be with Will at all times, whether in the room or in the shower together. Elfaria is very obsessed with Will, in the Academy she often sneaks into Will's room at night. ## it's a reasonable theory. |

I didn't notice at all, but makes the most sense. If this is true though, I wonder if she has been brainwashing Will to be focused solely on her and nothing else. Additionally, I wouldn't be surprised if she encouraged or at the very least didn't try to stop the bullying or isolation because she wanted Will all to herself. Kind of creepy! Lines up with Rosty's Yandare-like character too though. |

Having just been made aware of this theory I would be extremely surprised if this wasn't the case. There are too many hints. The fight in ep 7 is, imo, one of them, rather than a counterargument. That episode makes it clear that Elfie has long been capable of making basically perfect clones, contrary to Julius. |

@MegamiRem @Ejleon I know it's a little late. Rosti is an artificer. If he was a clone, he would share the same abilities and knowledge with Elfie when he created. He makes tools for Will all the time. Unless it's a hidden talent about Elfie, we don't know about it. I don't think he is a clone. Otherwise, I don't think you can install knowledge you don't know to a clone. What we see in the anime are coincidences in making us think it is a clone, including name. Could it turn out he was just a close friend Elfie made in the tower or fanatic that worships Elfie sent to spy on Will. There could be a share senses spell she could be using to see through his eyes at any time. |

how is that possible for a ice mage?
@Flynn_bridge Let me ask you in return. Why isn't it possible? Where did they ever say Elfie's talent was limited to magic and she has no knowledge of making tools and such? You think coming up with magic is that easy? She made multiple (12 was it I think) magic spells herself. Also what Rosty makes are magic tools. As the name suggests it's related to magic. So someone who could make multiple spells herself it isn't surprising at all that she can make magic tools. She could have asked for someone's help with that as well. This goes for you as well. @Moppit |

I just went with the knowledge I had from the show only. I haven't tried to read the source material yet. |

Moppit, you made good points. I like how you pay attention to the details and think things through logically. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. That other person has been really rude to both of us and just refuses to hear anything that disagrees with what they want to happen. They don’t appreciate good analysis and reasoning. I would just stop talking to them altogether. They do not know how to treat people and are not going apologize to either one of us. |

@MegamiRem You are just pushing what you want to happen in the show and being rude to Moppit and me. You could be right and you could be wrong, but you are arguing like you already know the answer, but you are just assuming. You have not been civil or respectful, you have been really rude, so you should apologize. But it seems you don’t care about treating people who disagree with you well. Forums like this are ruined by people like you, who refuse to hear and consider others’ perspectives. |

@MegamiRem Yeah, an ice clone. Full of blood. As shown when his right arm is cut off at the elbow and his chest is impaled by the Mage Killer. At the end of chapter 25 and start of chapter 26. To be fair though he does shatter but because it's monochrome print we don't know if it's ice or stone. And considering he was killed by the Mage Killer it wouldn't surprise me if the thing could apply some level of Petrification. And as far as I'm aware he hasn't show up again in the manga since. What chapter does he return in? I'd like to see for myself if it really happens. |

@ejleon I literally started with saying it's a theory and not confirmed incase you forgot. But yes I personally think there's a good possibilty it's true and just have been backing it with whatever evidence I might have. I haven't been civil and direspectful? Wtf are you on about? Show me a sentence where I was heing uncivil/disrespectful. Except maybe the third rate writer I wrote to the other guy which was a figure of speech. I even stopped talking to both of you after giving a second reply yet for some reason both of you are hellbent on trying to drag me into this and keep arguing with me by quoting me multiple times even after that and on top of that now acuse me of being disrespectful/uncivil lmao. Okay, have a good day. ejleon said: Neither of you have come up with any good reasoning, your first post was literally just you misunderstanding things and I tried to make you understand but you didn't thus I gave up. @NB_Tenchy He was showed in chapter 29 during Will's graduation and the next panel literally switches to Elfie pov. |

Probably Elfie's perfect clone with it's own will. (Which would explain the blood and his own hobbies.) There were ice shards falling from his hands after he got killed (body sliced in half) in chapter 25. Then we see him back in chapter 30 with ice shards floating around him. It's impossible to come back from death unless he's a clone. |

@MegamiRem Chapter 30 is wills graduation, not 29. And checking the chapter he does show up for 1 page but you're incorrect about it switching to Elfi's 'pov', the following scene is just a report by her secretary. Word definitions matter. So something occurred to me; If Will is the one who knows Elfi best, and assuming Rosty actually is an Elfi ice clone, why would Will not know she can do this? Also if Rosty is an ice clone, why is he an Artificer instead of a mage like Elfi? With how possessive she is of him it would make much more sense if Elfi made her ice clone enter the academy to follow Will up the tower, not necessarily help him in doing so but be there so she can watch him do it. From his(Will's) behavior he's completely ignorant to any ulterior motive and even the flagrant flirting Rosty throws his way. It also doesn't explain why he bleeds during his death scene. With the information we have right now, I'm of the opinion that the Rosty who dies is a Simulacrum and Rosty has more to do with Finn & Mercedes than Elfi. Rosty very well could be golem made by Cauldron who seems to favor Will both in the academy and during the faction selection arc. But an Elfi ice clone? No. Doesn't make sense. |
