At the time people were considered adults around the age of 12. So the age of 8 at that time is the same as the age of 12 at our time when adulthood is the age of 18. |

@Rukasumi I mean. Our world is free and unbound, hence the way a human behaves irrespective of their age is basically fluid. For example, when I was in my teenage I was totally childish in nature, but right now when I see certain teenagers in around I see a spectrum of behavioral style ranging from outright childish to outright mature. Hence, I feel it will be our mistake to judge a person's age based on their looks, physical build or even their behavior or vice versa. |

@ktg well they wernt, kids in the middle ages still were kids, yes teens were more adult but an 8 year old in the middle ages didnt act 18 or anything, that is a well known fallacy, also it depended on how poor they were so a well sheltered royalty kid would be very childish since they didnt have to worry about anything |

Fallacy is a logical error in an argument. So no, this is, in fact, not a fallacy. And actually this is true. Secondly, kids act as kids today because they don't have responsibilities. At that time an 8 year old, like you've seen in EP1, was trained to be a soldier, because at the age of 12 they could go to war. Thirdly, the fallacy is when you talk about acting as 18. No one talked about being 18. You shifted the goalpost, because otherwise you couldn't refute me. You said that he acts as 12 in your eyes. Yes, in today's standards that would be 12, when the adulthood starts as 18 ( 12 is 2/3 of 18), but at that time adulthood started as age of 12, that's why kids had to "mature" faster, and that's why he acts as an 8 year old. Lastly, he is still pretty childish. He doesn't really understand that he could die. The battlefield is just a playground for him and that's why he thinks of it as a game which was also highlighted in the show several times. |

@ktg stop it, the first episode shows how easy his life is and how he barely does any real training to begin with, even with training that dosent make you mature or more adult, it just means you know basic stuff about how to use a weapon, real maturity is looking after your family something royalty never has to think about doing, this show is blatantly having him be mature without him having any kind of training or reason for it, its just 1 big plot hole |

The show never said that he could fight good so no - that isn’t a plot hole. |

Rukasumi said: @ktg yeah you are right having him magically be really good at fighting without showing him having any training is totally not a plothole Do you watch stuff turned away from the screen with the volume muted or something? That’s a bold method for entertainment consumption. By episode 2 everyone should know that the “elusive samurai” is really good at elusion but only an amateur at swordsmanship. “Amateur” meaning having received at least some formal training. Tokiyuki can’t dislike sword training if he’s never done it. We don’t see any training because it’s superfluous to the presentation of the plot, not because it’s never happened. |

I cannot for the life of me fathom anybody over the age of 15 seriously caring about the difference between an 8yo and a 12yo. A kid is a kid is a kid. I can barely tell the difference irl much less in anime, appearance and behaviour wise. Like, unless you're a kid yourself or a parent/teacher of kids in that age group suffering from a terminal case of deformation professionnelle, I really can't see why this is something you'd get hung up on when the story would change in no meaningful way if they looked younger or were actually 14yo. |

Damn this is no discussion this a whole ass fight. I dont agree with the take that 8 and 12 is almost the same, cus it for sure is not. Other than that the mc looks and acts more like a 15yo than an 8yo, but as someone said before that's just how age works in anime |

@Rukasumi To put it simply, as you age yourself, the ages of kids start to sort of run together. As a preteen, or even a teen, the difference between 8 and 12 seems huge because four years is a third of your entire existence. As you grow old 4 years suddenly becomes a nearly insignificant amount of time, you gain enough perspective to realise that kids of certain ages are not that different in the grand scheme of things, especially if you don't have kids yourself and don't have a reason to compare kids of different ages to one another - which is why i also made an exception for parents and teachers, people who would have that additional frame of reference. You seem to have taken what i said extremely personally, but all I meant is that with the perspective of age, this is simply not an actual issue. It's not a question of maturity, it's just the natural by product of aging. The kids in this show are put in situation no human, no matter their age, is really equipped to deal with. Surviving a genocide is simply not what any of us were built for, so splitting hairs over how old these kids are is pointless because in their circumstances it literally would not matter. |

@BirdyTheMighty They are complaining about the fact that an 8-yo child is acting like a 12-yo and is correcting people with historical facts (idk if they're true or not but that's what the OP is doing). I'm not siding nor I am against them but as I read they're comments, they're only stating how it's a plothole that Tokiyuki acts that mature and can fight even tho he's a cheltered 8 yo who avoided training. It just seems like "woke" has become the new insult (since a while, I know) that people screams without knowing the meaning; like has been "faschist" too. A person woke is someone who's "alert to and concerned about social injustice and discrimination."(Oxford language) If I'm missing something and you meant someting else, please tell be because only by their comments I didn't understand how the OP has "woke-issues". |
