Given the plot for first episode and what happens to Toshiyuki, I can't help but draw a parallel of these events with what happens to Rin in Blade of the Immortal. Of course, you have people like Manji who are immortal and I can't tell as of yet if such supernatural elements exist within the plot of Elusive Samurai as well, but the drive for revenge at least feels pretty similar. So, what do others here think? Do you also feel that Elusive Samurai is partially inspired from Blade of the Immortal?

A lot of the story is based on the siege of Kamakura that actually happened in 1333. But any parallels it has with Blade are probably coincidental although I can’t back that up with any facts, just conjecture. I’ll look back to see if anyone adds any useful info.

I personally never made that connection, I can’t really say and it never stuck out at me as being the case but who knows. All I know is this is a story following the real life samurai Hojo Tokiyuki, the basis of his story here pretty much follows the real life events of the Siege of Kamakura. So if anything I’d probably say Blade of the Immortal was inspired by the fall of the Kamakura shogunate and other historical events like it. The fall of families/clans throughout the history of Japan is a common plot point in Japanese historical fiction stories.

The author said one of his inspirations for this manga was the fact that he was good at dodgeball as a kid

It's based on history.

You having seen something that felt it a bit like this is nothing. Not an Hommage, not influenced, not copied.

It's just something you remembered.

@Merve2Love Yeah that sounds about right. If it's based on real history then there is no inspiration since Blade of the Immortal is completely fictional.

Alright, they're both historical^^
You're still not getting that this doesn't mean they're connected.

All you have is: They're kinda samy and there is Revenge Stuff happening.
That's not enough. That's EVERY Samurai Story, ever.

@Merve2Love So I searched a little on Blade of the Immortal and found out that Anotsu Kagehisa is based on Itto Ittosai Kagehisa, so indeed Blade of the Immortal is also historical. That's something new I learnt today.

I guess the generic revenge stuff is what made me connect the two stories. Not that they are actually connected, but still just something that caught my eye and mainly also because Blade of the Immortal came before EluSam.
