THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

I really loved this one. I loved all the characters and was fully engrossed throughout the whole movie. What I did not like was the ending. It seemed very rushed through and I had to look at the youtube comments section to understand it. That did not make me like the movie any less though, it just made me want to read the maga now.

It's impossible to make perfect adaptation of 17 volumes long manga, but for what it is, it's quite good. Characters are complex, and the themes of in this story are all dark and heavy, Gilbert is completely corrupted by his uncle, both sexually and mentally. He's unlikable, but anyone would understand why he keeps throwing himself at other people. I can only feel sorry for him, none of this is his fault.

Serge on the other hand is too decent for his own good, no matter what Gilbert does, he keeps taking care of him.
The best part about this short movie was probably the ending - when it's revealed that whole story is told in the flashback. Especially, when you consider how Serge behaves, it's easy to guess that at that point in the story Gilbert isn't around anymore. Which isn't surprising really, this does seem like a story where happy end is impossible to achieve.

Gosh, now that I think of it, Alois from Kuroshitsuji II seems to be heavily inspired by Gilbert, to the point it's not even funny.

I'll definitely read manga version in the future as well, movie sadly does feel incomplete. 7/10

Well dang. Not sure what to say here other then I'm impressed and disappointed all in one stroke. Of course nothing close could've ever been adapted in an hour of time but boy was this shot damn well, the style is memorizing, and the characters are so layered yet we really only have time to see them on such a surface level. Time to read the manga *sigh*

7/10.

The drama and sensuality of this piece is incredible for just being a little over an hour. There's just enough information to piece together what's going on. I know Gilbert is the star but gosh, something about Serge.

Definitely makes me want to read the manga even more, but that'll be a long while from now with no full translation :^(

This deserves a masterpiece reward.
It’s too bad that there’s no official English translation.

I didn't read the manga, but it looks like it deserves a full modern remake.

Also the last scene was very sweet and I love how old boys love anime aren't focused on "let them fuck now!" and actually dealt with homophobia and co in a serious way.

That had so much emotional power that he just hugged Gilbert, since every other man didn't see anything in him than a pretty outside.

Felt so sorry for him ... my heart aches :/ it's a sad truth that some abused kids think they can get attention and love only by selling their body.

I think I could have really liked this if it was a full series.
Like that, it just looked like fragments of a greater story. But even the fragments were beautiful at times...

It reminded me that I should watch more animes from this area. The music did the anime even more artistic. It was somehow hilarious when Serge said 'we are both men' or something like this because both of their seiyus are women. It was hard to get used to but I get why they chose women for the roles instead of men.It sounded more fitting. Glad I found this piece of art.
Rest in Peace Ohara Noriko, who voiced Serge. She died 11 days ago and celebrated her birthday the same day as me.I think she was really talented.
