Quite a good start, I'm liking the premise of the whole thing. It's got some great potential.
I hope this turns out really well.
I despise Maki's dad.

I like the care put into making this anime look real. The secondary and background characters' design do not scream "we aren't revelant", the difference in wealth between Maki and Toma was obvious from their homes. I am looking forward to how the introduced plotlines are handled. That ending scene gave me flashbacks.
Another thing... There are so many well-known seiyuus in this modest-looking project, my head was spinning ahah.

What if the dad kick the door? What then?
What if that guy stay there not moving away, waiting until the mom come back and then use his mom as hostage?

Kicking in a door in an apartment building with paper walls seems like the best idea to get thrown out and taking someone hostage seems like a good reason to get into prison and a restraining order placed on you.
He also obviously didn't think about these things, because he just opened the door and was surprised, which is naive to say the least.

It's not unrealistic. To have been abused doesn't equal to being in a 24/7 anxious or paranoid state. Maki's just moved in, met an old friend and joined a club. He does not have the abuse actively on his mind at this time. Sadly he was brutaly reminded of it. The few next times the bell rings, then he will be extra careful.
Moreover, for him to be frozen still when he recognized his father is a normal reaction. From fear, but also the rush of clashing emotions is overwhelming.

Well, it was a great episode... until the ending. Seriously, pathetic attempt at drama. This problem wouldn't exist if you were to, like, just use your friggin phone after that guy leaves and call the police. Like every sane human would. You even have that fucking punched cheek and all. Japan has a conviction rate of 99%. This plot resolves itself in one episode, but nooooooooo, we need DRAMA, we want to make the late night program. Quite honestly, that ending alone makes me want to drop the show.
I THINK I will watch another episode, but well, I'm not really sure. To bad, because like I said, it felt like a nice show until then.

With that logic, abuse rates in Japan should be of 0%, and domestic abuse could never happen... But that's not the case so there's something lacking in such reasoning.

Well, d'uh I am aware that people are scared and whatnot. The simple fact stays the same though: If you act, you win. But people are weakwilled and dumb, so they don't. And well, if I see this in anime, where such a story is for nothing more than artificial drama, its a bad thing.

Just from the first scene, I had a feeling this would be better than pretty much every other show I've tried this season, just because of the way the characters act and talk to each other. Something about it feels very natural and lived while still getting across all the information we need to understand what's going on. Character designs are great too. Looking forward to the rest of this.

This show has an artistic direction and good budget, nice. The way Shinjou settled the deal with Maki was funny.
What a trashy dad Maki has. His mother seems to be un-loving too. He himself is likable though, has a nice easy-going personality which is hard to believe given the circumstances he lives in. I do think he could be more cautious considering he likely has had previous such experiences with his dad (more like trash) but I guess he wasn't prepared.

I was waiting for this anime to be dubbed before I started watching so I'm late to the party so I'm saying from my first expression.

I see that Touma's mother is one of those types, huh? Annoying.

I like how Maki does the housework. It's refreshing to see a male character doing cooking, cleaning, and shopping.

The ending got me through like what in the actual hell?

Jesus Christ! I was not expecting that ending. I came into this blind, not knowing what to expect and that ending hurt. Somehow the show reminds me a little bit of Ookiku Furikabutte but with more drama. I can tell that I'm going to like this series a lot. At first, I was thinking this will be my "feel good" series of the season but damn.

I'm guessing Maki grew up poor and he has to deal with his abusive father while Toma is the rich boy with a perfect older brother but a mother who is slightly off. They both have their own family issues.

Anyways, I'm gonna say it, I like their chubby student council president. It's rare to see a fat girl in Anime. The only other chubby girl I know is in Kabukicho Sherlock and she's a side character too.

So that was pretty impressive, you know,
I was thinking that this show will be the same cliché about sports anime's but
that drama ingredient it is gonna give it another vibes completly differents.
Even being sports one of my favorites anime type this was a bit bored, but no matter I'll give it a chance.

Oh my god.... it was very lighthearted until the goddamn abusive father came. I totally didn't expect that. Watching Maki like that hurts my heart so much since he's such a good boy. I really loved this first episode. Everything just flowed so naturally and didn't bore me a bit. I'm guessing the drama is going to be about family dynamics. Really impressive.

Good start, imo. The score is slowly going up, and I've been seeing good reviews about this show so I decided to pick it up. I'm glad I did! Seems like this is going to be a great ride xD

My only problem with this show is that he didn't latch his door when he opens it, If some one could explain this I might watch it

Exactly why this ending was stupid and not touching.

Victim of domestic abuse => first thing you do for the rest of your life is always put a security on doors. You don't see who's on the other side ? You don't open the door. Period.

It was gratuitous, a braindead narrative to show the bad person doing bad things because he's baaaaaaad, so cry for the poor victim.

I hate when they do that, I always find it really insulting. (<_<)

A sport anime with family issues, especially domestic abuse huh. Let's see what happens.

Noooo, why did he open the door? That ending was brutal.

This immediately looks interesting. Tennis is an interesting sport, and I'm eager to see how Maki does.

That part at the end was hard to watch, though. Maki's father appears to be a poor, possibly alcoholic thief who takes his mother's money away whenever he feels like it. As soon as I saw him walk into the apartment with his shoes on, I knew that he had to be trouble. Will Maki ever be able to do something about it?

Story based sport anime, with the usual formula of underdog team with strong transfer student

Looks like both the main guys have parent problems, but damn Maki's dad is one piece of shit

Parents problems... that father was really an asshole.

Anyway I liked this first episode, sports anime is something I usually enjoy, but with drama it can also be something like Hanebado which I dislike. Hope this will be better, begin is already promising at least. The art is also beautiful.

PISSED OFF

Here I am thinking this was a decent episode, potentially interesting show. And then that MFer of a "father" shows up. Does Japan not have child abuse laws?

Just started a rewatch. I didn't think anything of it the first time through, and of course the ending is what sticks with people, but when they show the brief flashback of Maki marveling at Toma's brother, he's got bruises from his father's abuse there too. Damn.

I didn't expect to be attacked with so many negative emotions AND the ending scene with Maki's father right in the first episode.

Please... someone stab his father with a knife.

Seems like some family drama in both families.

Why didn't he ask who's there instead of opening the door if there's obviously something or someone blocking the lens.

I don't like Touma. Being passionate is one thing but taking advantage of and lying to Maki is another. I'll see how this develops from now on.

The ending broke my heart. My poor boy 🥺 they need to set up security cameras and catch him in the act. That man deserves worse than prison.
