Hi everyone :)

As said in my thread title I really enjoyed Naruto and Naruto Shippuden back in the day and while I never wanted to watch Boruto because it seemed like a cash grab I started to wonder whether I'm missing something or not?

Unfortunately I'm very busy these days and I have quite a big anime backlog so I can't afford watching something that would not be up to the standards of the previous shows :/

Do you think Boruto is worth it compared to Naruto/Shippuden?

Thanks in advance :)

I never finished Naruto, but from what I watched of Boruto, it just felt like Naruto but worse. Unless you have some reason you really want to watch it, I wouldn't recommend it.

Thanks for the answer, that's what I feared and I have the feeling it would have been better to spend money and efforts on a new manga/anime while using the "From the creator of naruto" instead of this.

I'm gonna wait for other answers but let's say that for now I'm not convinced I should watch, I just want to be sure I'm not missing something.
The MAL average for the anime is 6.9/10 so that's not reassuring to say the least.

From what I've read of the manga... I would recommend spending your time watching/reading other things.

I agree with the ~7/10 rating it has, it's okay, but there's certainly better things out there.

Thank you too :)

I started to watch My Hero Academia for the first time with the 1st episode, I'll probably stick to that instead :)

i agree with my hero. its holds more true to the spirit of naruto than boruto has or will ever do. boruto is honestly a cheap pile of crap money grab. i remember starting to watch naruto and well my hero is more similar id say than boruto and naruto is in boruto....

Like it's been mentioned above, Boruto is okay. It's not bad, but it's not good either. When compared to its parent story, it's not even on par, to be honest. Sure, some of the fights and abilities are cool and all, but I just can't for the life of me enjoy the characters as much as I do/did with the original Naruto. And that's pretty much what made the story for me.
If you REALLY want to dive into Boruto anyway, I suggest just reading the manga. Not because I'm one of those 'manga is better than anime' people, but because it's faster to read manga than it is to watch anime, in my opinion. So, you can at least read like 20 or so chapters and decide whether it's for you or not, and that won't be taking up a huge chunk of your day.

I believe it would work out the same as Naruto. We have the tendency to compare the two and develop a bias such as the dislike of modern technology in naruto universe. Hence, we get stricter.

Do you remember that fucking arc when they're just racing running. Expect boring and hype moments.

This is more of a sentiment. Something that's going with me for a while. Whatever happens in it, i'll just be just be another observer of it.

I really enjoyed Naruto and didn't mind going through all the episodes and even watching the fillers since the characters had such good development. I tried watching Boruto and it caught my interest for awhile, but it just wasn't really the same. I dropped it by episode 60 and still wasn't really invested. I think that if you wanted to check out a few episodes go for it, but the characters are rather dull imo.

The biggest strength for Boruto is with the parents and children relationships. It's really unique experience as most anime or manga pulls back form any involvements when dealing with parents. However other then this the story is rather simple and can get boring at times. If you have the time, I think it is worth it to check it out. Whether you continue or not is up to you.

TL;DR Yes, Boruto is going to be worth it, but right now it is getting on its feet with a new writing lead, who is focusing on exposition, character development, lore-building, etc. I know they will stay true to the quality we've grown accustomed to, but it will take some time. If you don't want to watch it now, keep tabs on it. Do also try to remember how many wasted minutes Naruto had, with long staring scenes, fillers, etc.

---

Naruto (and the story/lore) is my favorite thing to talk about -- very much my favorite thing to watch. Having said that, Boruto can't hide the fact that a new writer and illustrator has replaced Kishimoto and definitely has a slow, kind of rocky start. However I have a theory that they are also holding back while the characters grow a bit so that they can properly make Boruto an awesome show once the plot thickens -- the manga is just getting settled into the juicy pick-up point of the main plot.

Now scattered in the show, you can see the development team's still got it. Perfect example is episode 65, which wraps up the events of the Boruto Movie in, i would say, the most epic anime fight of 2018 (im biased, but come on, watch it and tell me its not crazy good). Of course many small details of that fight are geared towards long time viewers, but the animation and choreography are exactly as good as the most epic fights in Shippuden. They should employ this quality more often, but that showed me that they are capable of Shippuden-esque fights and story telling.

For this reason, if you enjoyed Naruto and Shippuden, I truly believe Kodachi and Ikemoto will stay true to the series. Having said that, I'm sure you can wait until you hear the internet blow up about how good Boruto has gotten (whenever that happens, probably when the plot has gotten very thick and matured). Just to give you an idea, Naruto and Shippuden focused on the Sharingan-line powers and War as its motif. Boruto will likely be focused on the Byakugan-line powers, Super-high-tech Ninja technology, and Anti-War.

Unfortunately the movie pales in comparison to the anime adaptation of it (Boruto episode 53-65) - story-telling wise and animation-wise, so I highly recommend those episodes instead but OP doesn't have that much time at the moment.

Well said. Exactly, especially when you've come to know and love so many characters from Naruto. Its very cool to see what's become of them and the world.

+1.

I mean I dropped it at episode 60 giving it a pretty long time for it to develop, never happened, unless I'm wrong.

If you really like naruto/naruto shippuden, I don't think you would like boruto. I finished it like last year, it was ok for the most part, but as a whole, it's really baad.

@mokkocchi Surprised to have replies 5 years later aha, but yeah I still didn't start it because I'm not sure at all about it and I have so much to catch up with in terms of anime ^^

So Boruto is over now?

Naruto and Naruto Shippuden were so much better than Boruto, even though they had their issues with the flashbacks. It took a very long time for it to get going, but even the manga episodes were decent at best. I only watched it for the old gang. I tried rewatching it to see some of the old fights again and Baryon Mode, but I got so bored of it by episode 4 and dropped it. Not worth it. The pacing is too slow for me.

@Ezereal not yet, i hear there will be timeskip on boruto. no matter, i also dropped this on episode around 220. it has some of its moment, but the most of it surprisingly only filler and bad. chunin exam in boruto is like heaven and earth to child naruto chunin exam. we can't even get to see clearly other genin from other country skill. in boruto there are 2 chunin exam, 2nd chunin exam is a little better than the first but sadly its non-canon/filler.

@XAlpha9 I see, thank you for the details and with 220 episodes before dropping you clearly gave it a real chance, kinda makes me even more sure I probably shouldn't try this given I have a lot to catch up with in terms of anime already ^^ I wasn't aware there were so many episodes, shocked it's at 293 episodes already wow :o
