Why does this only have a 6.53 score?! Do people really dislike Idol anime that much? I'd put it closer to 9.53 personally.

plenty of MAL users hate idol anime, especially cgdct idol anime ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You can buy lossless digital music from your favorite Japanese artists on https://ototoy.jp/.
The songs are all DRM-free and you can re-download your purchased albums as you wish.
Show your support to your favorite artist if you can!
ps. if you are looking for Japanese albums, you have to search it in Japanese (not romaji). Just copy and paste the name.

For those who want to learn Japanese through anime

People have their own tastes even if you think they are shit.

I will probably give it 7 or 8 when it ends, personally

3DCG is the first reason that comes to my mind :)

I don't mind about 3DCG, though

The reason why its rated lowly is not because being CGI or Idol anime, its because it had a bad introduction episode, if you didnt play the game you wont know anything about them and the anime fails to introduce ANY of the group properly. I understand people who played the game are hyped for seeing their favourite characters in anime, but unless the anime becomes actually good after first episode , dont think this anime worth higher rating.

For me, as someone who enjoyed The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls back in 2015 but found this borderline-unwatchable, the big problem is just the production aspect feels soulless, like no passion was put into its production at all compared to past entries in the series.

It had me in the beginning of the episode with the gorgeous environmental shots and atmospheric opening monologue. But then once the characters interacted and the plot started I lost interest very fast.

The dialog to me sounded forced and generic. And the biggest sin that kept taking me out of the show over and over again is that the voice actors had no chemistry. There were weird pauses between what was supposed to feel like were interjections and reactions, to the point that it constantly broke my suspension of disbelief because of how inorganic it felt. Also, one of the things that made Cinderella Girls work for me was how it did not idealize the idolmaking process, it showed that it's uprooting your life and having to trust a corporation for the hope of having a good debut. Here, everything is treated too uncritically. It had no meat on its bones, it was just idealized escapist fantasy. (Also, the character animation was VERY stiff and non-expressive.)

I'm sure those who are more invested in the series and more invested in idol shows will like it just fine, but as a generic anime watcher with no particular affection for the genre, who is just looking for good stories with good characters and good acting regardless of where the story fits in the genre web, this one fell short for me in terms of hooking me on the world and the characters.

No judgment on anyone who likes it. I'm glad you were able to enjoy it more than I did.

@Mai_of_the_Fire So, as far as I understand, this couldn't reach the heights of past IMAS anime?

@Mai_of_the_Fire One suggestion I'll give you for an excellent Idol anime would be Shine Post. It went under the radar for alot of people because it was on HiDive. It has the best animation I saw in an anime for 2022. There was no CG used in it. Definitely give it a shot. Also, if you like Anohana then you might like Idoly Pride also.

@RobertBobert Even I could say it doesn't. I'd the original, Cinderella Girls and U149 were the best.

@Yui_Suzumiya69 Is the second show also worth watching? I missed it temporarily.

Game adaptation syndrome I guess. Also just casually dropping 16 girls on us in the first ep or two or three.

I'm biased and even then I feel like the starting has been a bit rough. There's still eps for it to get better (I swear I'm not coping)

And hell they even announced there's a s2 later this year so there's that at least.

Part of it might also be because I heard there are more girls who didnt show up in the anime yet soo

The first ep was just kinda weird so I guess a lot of people just slapped a 6

I always find the "3D" kinda funny, cause different parts of the world thinks differently on "3D".

Where EN tends to go with 2D and shies away from 3D.

CN on the other hand loves 3D and had less interest in 2D.

JP is in the middle, lol, where there are both 2D and 3D and people just takes it as is.
(mainly cause JP unlike EN and CN, doesn't have much access to "free non-restricted anime on demand")

Then there are those "clay doll" and "puppet doll" animations... LOL

.
