Oh man, that elf magician is a dangerous one. Not just taunting Laois but also trying to kill him...yikes.

Definitely one of the more serious and more ominous episodes this season. Seriously though, that elf magician might be more dangerous than the Red Dragon they've fought. Speaking of Red Dragon, it also seems the party had a bit too much meat from their loot.

After the happy-go-lucky last episode, I mean not exactly knowing we went through some bloody battles and some ancient magic thing, but still, this episode started with the same tone the cliffhanger from last time concluded itself. Like jesus, that elf came and wreaked havoc. Forget Falin getting referred as the dragon, she suffering through all that was painful as fuck.

Falin is done for, and so is their party, once again. I mean adding to the misery, they all getting kicked out and ending up in a place which was quite possibly a nightmare for folks with claustrophobia, was horrid luck once again. We will get the answers in due time, but for now, these people being battered and down and out, are quite literally on the verge of being broken.. until of course you get a kiss from an orc woman and that lifts your mood lol.

Jokes aside, that orc woman helped them, so good. Easy to shit on Chilchuck here, but he’s talking most reasonable right now. I mean if it wasn't for him convincing Laios there, pretty sure that dude would've left to catch that elf long ago. He cares a lot about them, and it showed this time.

Maybe the best one yet, and it came at a good point too. One more cour now.

So, it seems there were problems with the resurrection spell after all.

After tirelessly striving, Laios managed to bring Falin back to life. Meanwhile, Senshi was left pondering over the daunting task of cooking a substantial amount of Red Dragon meat. However, their happiness at reuniting was fleeting. Falin, upon waking, appeared disoriented, as if under some external influence. Determined to find out what's happening, Laios embarked on a quest to locate Falin, leading him to the remains of the Red Dragon. There, he encountered the elven sorcerer who had once attempted to end his life within a Living Painting.

I liked the plot twist, but I'm confused about how Falin could have the dragon's soul. Since she still remembers her past, having two souls in one body seems odd, as that usually only happens with humans and ghouls. Maybe it's because her body was made using dragon flesh? At least now we know Falin can still be saved, which wasn't so clear before. Anyways, Chilchuck is right. They have enough information now; they just need to prepare better for the fight with the elf sorcerer. It's always important to rethink
strategies. Chilchuck has always been practical, but seeing how much he cares about the group is nice.

That's the end of the first cour of our adventure. In the next cour, our main goal will be to save Falin... again.

Probably the last time We'll see this OP. It's quite relaxing, I like it.

9:38, 9:42 It wasn't subtitled, but the ghost said これ以上は心配しないで (kore ijou wa shinpai shinaide) - "You don't need to worry anymore"

The ED is so out of place again xD
A bit tonal shift this episode. Losing Falin again is a bit frustrating, but I like this development. I hope people don't start hating on Chilchuck too much, he was just super frustrated.

A trailer for the second cour just came out, so check it out.

Can't even begin to imagine how frustrating it might be for Laios. He went through so much to save his sister and succeeded only for it to be taken away by the mad elf but given how they are, they'll comeback and have their revenge and also get back Falin. The journey continues.

Btw
Falin, so close.

Another Falin rescue arc. This time some of the characters from the Op are probably going to join them.

My doctor has always told me to smoke. He even explains himself: “Smoke, my friend. Otherwise someone else will smoke in your place.”

I loved the huge lore drop this episode. When I seen the dark elf in the preview last week I had thought it was the same one from the paintings, which is now confirmed. And apparently the lunatic King is the same king that Laios was around for all the important events in his life when going into the paintings.

That was a quick reunion. Leveled up means level up on encounters. So I suppose that Orc concoction was the dish of the episode? Hmm...

The end of a cour is def a good place to start a new arc, tho it's a sad farewell to the happy-go-lucky dungeon gourmets this season :,)

I love how the elf from the paintings Laios entered as an apparent one-off gag actually has a bigger role to play. Like, I knew he'd return given how angry he was at Laios, but I thought he'd be more of a side character serving a tyrant monarch or something.

Now, that's how you make a mood whiplash episode. No need to overdramatize, just give your characters some harsh facts to think about.

PS
And we have a Trigger regular VA joining the cast as Leed - Michiyo Murase. Her most famous role being Sucy from Little Witch Academia of course.

Being reborn in the flesh and blood of a slain dragon is still badass but figures that it would've come with some pretty hefty consequences, and the orc cheiftain's sister seeing through Chilichuck's fear and recognizing his genuine concern over his squad's lives was some powerful stuff for what started as a goofy monster recipe of the week show.

Also, you know the state of affairs are dire when the only dungeon "meals" we get are a orc concoction put together in like ten seconds and dragon ham with name label UI ominously attached to it like a player name.

Just when we were getting used to Falin being back, there she goes again lol. Not sure what’s up with her exactly, it’s hard to tell with that we saw but one thing is certain, and it’s that the dark elf from the paintings has something to do with it. And apparently the dark elf is a guy, I was so certain he was a girl because of the hair but it appears I was wrong, and along with this reveal we also found out that he’s the lord of the dungeon which is a huge deal, the gang is lucky they survived that encounter, but it was mainly thanks to the ghosts for saving them from the moving walls, it’s interesting that the ghosts are working against the dark elf despite that scene where he said “his majesty will return soon.” Also Marcille was an MVP here, her knowledge of ancient magic came in clutch again.

And after being saved by the ghosts we met the orcs once again, but this time it was a group being led by the chief’s sister, and I like her character so far after her interactions with Chilchuck. And speaking of Chilchuck, I definitely get where he’s coming from wanting to go back to the surface, but I’m glad he ended up revealing his true feelings in that he wants to see the others survive, not so much wanting to save his own skin, and Senshi even backed him up when trying to convince Laios to return to the surface which was nice to see. And eventually Laios folded, as it is truly the best option, but very sad at the same time as they just got Falin back but now they have to leave without her and rescue her all over again, but I do look forward to the journey ahead as we enter the spring anime season.

One is expecting to see what dish will be featured in this episode, but instead we get an interesting plot. Well, although it was somewhat obvious that this would happen given the events of the last few episodes.

We see the protagonists at their most human moment, with Falin seemingly having some connection now with the dragon and the lunatic mage; Laios worried about losing his sister again, and Chilchuck fearing that his comrades might do something reckless and end up dead.

The best option is to resupply and return to the dungeon. I'm anxious and scared about what might happen next.

It does look like the way that Falin was revived caught the attention of someone rather dangerous. Here I thought we saw the last of the obsessive dark elf when Laios was jumping through paintings a while back, but this elf is playing a far more important role than I thought. Not only can he use ancient magic, but he's also the lord of the dungeon, so Laios and his group stood no chance against him. Because of this, Laios and Falin have been separated once again. =(

It's nice to see the orc's once more, with this group led by the chief's sister. She's more level-headed compared to her brother, but she doesn't hesitate to say what's on her mind. Thanks to her unique CPR skills on Laios and Marcille, which had me laughing, her time with Chilchuk was pretty interesting, where she played a good part in getting him to be honest and voice out his true feelings instead of resorting on a lie.

As much at it pains for Laios to admit, returning to the surface to restock and regroup is the best course of action before any attempt to rescue Falin can be made.

This episode had its funny moments, but it was a pretty serious one from start to finish. I can only hope that Falin can be truly rescued from the dark elf and his true motives.

What a crazy episode. Especially after our relaxing episode last week this one definitely was much more intense. Thistle is now announced as the mad mage who controls the dungeon and I had my suspicions, but it was confirmed this episode. Feel bad for Laois who just got his sister back and lost her the very next episode. Looking forward to what is to come.

But they used resurrection on her with Dragon meat
How on earth did that turn her into a high level Dungeon monster with no free will?
Plot hole/convenience?

@therealab Dragon soul, clearly. They said monster souls don't persist, but Dragon seems to be different. Maybe a familiar? The rest of the things we've seen seem to just be animals that moved in and adapted. Dragon seems to be a construct.

On an unrelated note: The subs continue to be shaky, and the Orcs objectively inferior animals.

Not even a full episode with her and the group already lost Falin again. Another rescue arc incoming.

Also Chilchuck sure lost his balls for a moment there. Good thing the episode came up with a solid enough reason as for why he wanted to return to the surface.

Falin has had a bit of a resurgence moment meeting the elf who came from the picture, and unfortunately, is not seen by anyone. Laios going to search for her, and fatefully meets the same elf who's the dungeon master, the mad mage who can control ancient magic. To make matters worse, trapping them all out of his path and while giving Falin a new body, the mad mage is definitely the worst sum of enemies thus far, not to mention the ghostly apparitions.

Thankfully with the orcs, Senshi manages to strike a conversation to save the party, but to put them in recovery through the orc concoction, it's a bad medicine for sure. And knowing the mad mage sorcerer further, Laios and the party made a mistake by confronting the Red Dragon, and Chilchuck is forced to make a decision to control both Laios and Marcille to give up looking for Falin, no matter the circumstances. The orc woman, despite her whims about Chilchuck, who has the trust of Senshi, accompanying him on the way back to get their items, rants on his own party being smart idiots, but that their choices so far have been stringing on the line between life and death.

It's clear that without any plan, Chilchuck fears the worst, and convincing Laios to go back to the surface, that's the only thing they can do now and give up finding Falin.

The 1st cour's adventures end here for now, more to pick up for the 2nd half.

Holy shit, that episode flew by!

I like how the elf magician truly is out of his mind. He can't be reasoned with. He's grasping at straws, waiting for the day that his king returns, which is realistically never gonna happen, right? He remembers Laios showing up at various points of history, which we know is entirely accidental, yet he assumes there's something siniester behind it, and refuses to be convinced overwise. Definittely an interesting antagonist for the future of the story. I wish we had a bit more time with Falin, she was with us for such a short time! Pretty awesome overall.

I like how Senshi was holding the mini blood dragons as if they were chickens about to become dinner. Too bad about the dragon ham.

Saved by the ghosts unexpectedly. I wonder what their goals are, those "sane" ones.

I can see this series has taken some inspiration from Tolkien, with the orcs keeping pet "dogs" which are actually wargs. Orc sister made a very poignant comment to Chilchuck on how he doesn't want his friends to die. An interesting different take when you switch your perspective. I'm glad Chilchuk said what needed to be said, thanks to the push from the Orc sister.

And that does it for the first cour. Looking forward to seeing the new characters in part 2 next week, especially the ninja girls! I wonder if we'll get new OP or ED, although I'm okay if they continue using the current ones.
