Take her to a doctor and let her get checked if she has autism, HIV, STD or anything else. No reason to make these threads.

@MusashiKarlsefni She tends to get unusually upset when anything unexpected happens or anything goes wrong (such as getting separated on the train), she doesn't use antiperspirant although I don't know if that's normal (as a teenager I sure never did), and she doesn't really have a sense of boundaries (although Ichikawa doesn't seem to mind). I'd have more specific evidence but I didn't really re-watch it with the detective intention in mind.

Those three points aside it's just vibes and the fact that autism in women is often harder to spot. My evidence is really slim and the deciding factor is just vibes.

Characters like Yamada are relatively common in anime. it's a common way of portraying young girls in the medium so I would assume not, but if you see all the same symptoms in her that you see in yourself then it won't hurt anyone for you to see her that way.

The reason it's a common portrayal of girls is because most people who watch anime are male and a girl who is really open and more of a go getter is basically the dream personality for most lol.

No she's definitely not autistic.
She's the type of child who is thrown into a career early in childhood and falls into this spiral of things she can't do because
1. She is either not allowed or restricted to do something. for example, hanging out with boys older than her or having public appearances in groups which have no common environment (like school or cram school)
2. She is exempted from doing normal shit like cleaning her room or volunteering in school because she is a special case.

These things basically pamper her into having things done for her or having it easy as compared to a normal child. Hence, what incompetence you see in her might be conceived as acoustic but it's not. It's just pure incompetence of doing things regularly.

Another example would be Arima Kana from Oshi No Ko. A child actor with an exemplary childhood career. Right until the moment she started living alone because her mom had to live in their home city, she was a spoiled brat who forced everyone around her to do things for her. Only reason why her incompetence did not surface was here fake ahh confidence and the bitch attitude that she kept in front of a crowd.

I feel like anyone can get upset over things going wrong, especially when it comes to their crush. I haven’t felt like many of her reactions were “unusual” outside of being flustered and panicked due to her said crush.

I’m not well versed in autism lore so idk what a lack of antiperspirant means, and to fair it’s a detail that I don’t recall for some reason.

The lack of boundaries is just her being a very happy, outgoing, and welcoming person, even more so with Ichikawa as she wrote in the letter in the newest episode. She knows he’s shy and distant, and she just wants him to open up more, so she does everything she can to be close with him and make him feel more comfortable.

She is just an air headed, goofy young girl, who is in love with someone she’s gotta try really hard for. But at the end of the day, I can’t say she is or isn’t, I have my interpretation and it’s okay to have yours. I just don’t think it’s really a noticeable thing, especially for someone who doesn’t share similar experiences.

It's probably not intentional but there's no definitive proof either way. It's like how there seems to be a lot of ADHD characters in Black Clover but it's probably not something Tabata did on purpose

TBH, thats a good question now that I think about it she does have a lot of autistic traits lol. It could be that she is just childish but it does make a lot of sense if she was somewhat on the spectrum. I doubt the author wrote it that way but it makes a lot of sense. Nothing wrong with it, of course it may make her cuter actually.

Interesting question about Yamada.

She doesn’t get “unusually upset”, she gets jealous at certain things, just like Ichikawa, because she likes him.

How do you know she doesn’t use “antiperspirent”?

She is not as open with everyone, regarding boundaries, just with her friends and Ichikawa, because she likes him, she tends to stay away from other boys.

Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

I think Yamada doesn’t fall into the spoiled selfish brat type.

She is youth trained for media and she is irresponsible.

But she is not hiding a terrible personality in public.

Nah. I'm also autistic and she's just a well off very beautiful girl that don't have to give a shit because of that. Her time is way more precious to her so she have all those excentric autism manerisms.

She doesn't get upset easily, she just cries easily when she does get upset. When their group got separated she wasn't crying about that. She was crying because Ichikawa yelled at her while they were running to catch the train so she thought he was angry at her.

Is the anti-perspirant thing because she smelled bad in that episode where they were doing judo for PE? That wasn't her that smelled. It was the gi that the school had given her that smelled bad.

I don't think she's on autistic. If she is on the spectrum I would say it's just barely.

We also haven't seen any evidence that she doesn't have to do things like clean her room or that her parents spoil her. The fact that she's expected to get to and from jobs on her own shows that she doesn't have show biz parents who give her special treatment just because of what she does.

Fans of the Show explained to me: She's just young. Very realistic behaviour of an adolescent girl, portrayed with charme and a lot of thought...She's NOT an airhead and she's NOT autistic. This is real life. Girls like her DO exist. It's relateable af.

Yamada does seem absent-minded (a little too much)

But she is aware of everything and can read a room well, so I doubt she is. And if she is, its very mild

I mean... if you're looking at anime characters realistically, I would call a LOT of them autistic, but that's not really how it works.
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

If that’s what you call autism, then you might as well call most anime characters autistic.

I don’t think the mangaka designed her with autism tendencies in mind. She’s just a sweet and aloof girl who gets upset over someone she likes, just like anyone else would. You’re free to have your own opinion, though.

No she's not autistic, you probably don't understand her or you're just overthinking it. I'm a teacher assistant and I agree that she does act a bit too childish but it's normal because she's in middle school. also we have to remember this is anime, the way how characters behave/act in anime isn't an accurate representation on how ppl act/behave irl. also from the 8 episodes that I've seen so far I could tell you that she's acts oblivious but she isn't oblivious to everything, also she makes it pretty obvious.
