We've arrived at the tournament arc! I love these strategy-heavy battles. Oliver and his team facing each plan was very interesting to read. Although it's disappointing Chela has pretty much been sidelined. She doesn't get many fights...

You can feel the progress Pete, Katie, and Guy have made compared to the beginning of the series. Too bad that the team they were facing was such a strong team. It's cool to have Andrews fighting again after what happened in the first volume.

The teachers in this series are monsters! They didn't stand a chance against Vanessa.

The next volume will probably be about Rivermoore and his human skeleton. Considering the past volumes, a volume centered around an upperclassman screams deathflags.

As our protagonists step into their third year, it shows their growth as mages. The Sword Roses all have excelled in at least one area and as the tournament unfolds you really see how much they’ve grown.

In this arc, the author really sets up all of them down their respective paths as in the fourth year they’ll be upperclassmen and be in the same position as Milligan in the first revenge arc(dang, it feels so long ago!!).

We also get to see some really detailed, thought out battles in this book and the arc over all. The 3v1 team battle against Oliver Nanao and Leik is probably my 3rd favorite in the series so far.

And the suspense continues into the next book with probably the best of the upperclassmen arcs next.
