Is this deliberate choice by the author of SxF?

Yor is a popular character, primarily due to her status as an amazing killer waifu for many otakus. It's a true statement that otaku cannot stand their waifus having two male characters as potential love interests. If you were to replace Yuri with a male character who is a jealous ex-lover of Yor, purposely designed to be a homewrecker character attempting to destroy Loid and Yor's marriage like Fiona, that character would likely become one of the most hated characters in anime history.

I can understand why the author chose a siscon over the option of a jealous ex-lover. This is merely speculation, so please don't take it too seriously.

I'm pretty sure the author didn't do it because of what you said but rather because it'll be more comical to have a brother who just really his sister a lot, it's a family friendly show after all (minus the bloodshed idk).

Yor is a character who is dumb in a lot of ways and should not work as an assassin but somehow she is the best assassin to ever exist cuz guess what if she loses her primary weapons she has no means of fighting with her bare hands as we saw on s2 where if not for Anya throwing the weapons to her she would hv lost so yea I do not get the appeal of her character.

i agree with most of what you said. Yor is dumb except when it comes to fighting, but I disagree with you that she can't fight without a weapon. She's shown many times that she can fight without a weapon, but this time was different than those times because this time, she was doubting herself and wondering why she's still doing this. She temporarily lost her will to fight, which obviously affected her ability to fight and I believe that even with a weapon, up until the weapon came her way from Anya (which was right about when Yor finally had the will to fight again) she would have still lost because she didn't really have the will to fight and she didn't seem to care all that much about dying either since her brother doesn't need her anymore

I think the main issue with it being an ex lover is that they wouldn't be welcomed into Loid's home like they would if they were a sibling (especially when that sibling puts on an act of being kind towards Loid).

I feel like his attitude is born from genuine care and respect for his sister and even though its a bit over the top, the source of his feelings are very realistic and not at all creepy, whereas an ex lover would not have the same motivations for being addicted to Yor's wellbeing like Yuri is.

We can replace Yuri with literal Yuri and it doesnt change anything to the story.
I think thats the big point is, Yor need an overprotecting sibling, or even cousin to be her reasoning to expand her family.
