I have watched countless isekai trash, and most of the protagonists right here just did not appeal to me because they did not have enough personality. I was barely interested in AoT. Suddenly out of nowhere many people considered Eren to be one of the best protagonists in the anime medium due to his sigma male personality that he developed in season 4 and got even more popular when it was revealed that he was the one who manipulated Grisha to start the entire story. That's one of the most insane reveals I had ever seen in my life.

You know the scene where he becomes Yeagerist, and the moment he puts on a jacket given by Floch in sunset gotta be one of the blatant male power fantasy scenes ever. I got too obsessed with this guy and put him on a pedestal that I have never with any anime character period.

All of those fantasies that I had about Eren were destroyed by the ending. I still love AoT even though it wasn't perfect. Just asking, are there any AoT fans who had a similar experience as me three years back?

I think many people fell this way, isayama tried his hardest to make eren a cool character in season 4 as a bait, so when his real personality was revealed it would come as an even bigger shock although the plot twist wasn’t amazing done i still respect the attempt he made

yeah he’s a fucking badass but can’t call it a power fantasy when he murders 80% of population

@__potato__ Well, that's sort of true. Eren had his fair share of pathetic moments, and the reason behind those emotional breakdowns made sense in the story's context. Last emotional breakdown did not make any sense

his last emotional breakdown is literally what reminded us that despite everything, Eren is still a kid. That's what gave him even more depth as a character, he's just a kid who was given too much power and he had no other way to use it.

I don't think that his personality changed at all. I think that the scene where he breaks down and starts sobbing in the finale is to remind us that he is still that scared little kid that watched his mother get eaten.

In season 4 he didn't act like his usual self (until the very end when saying goodbye to Armin) because he was supressing all of his emotions because he had gone mad with the power of the titans being able to see past present and future of other holders.

Is it okay if you tell me what you think happened to his character? I don't really know what the opposing view of the ending is because whenever it's brought up online people start verbally abusing eachother 😅

I agree with you. But i just think isayama could have presented it better, like his love for mikasa, if beforehand he showed more signs of affection and love towards her, it would have made more sense (for exampleif he kissed her in the end of season 2). Or the fact that he says to armin, in the final chapter, that he only did the rumble to protect his friends. I think it was one of the reasons, but completely disregarding his psycothic behavior (like when he was as a child, and killed the bandits) and bizarre obsession with freedom was really bad. Personally i belive that in this moment he was coping, but that just a headcanon, we will never know since isayama never confirmed it. Thats my biggest 2 problems. I get what isayama was trying to do, and i like it, i just think the dialogue and the way it was presented was poorly written

So you hate the ending because you didn't get the self-insert Chad Eren power fantasy you wanted.

Only the first 2 season, and it's just the usual shounen power fantasy, after that it becomes depressing.

I think you might ve confusing concepts.

Power Fantasy characters are usually the ones who keep on seeing an increase in power and are literally untouchable by every other character.

That didn't happen with Eren. He got the shit kicked out of him for 3 seasons.

And even in Season 4 when he got much better. He was never winning unilaterally.

He only became a Power Fantasy character when accessed the Founding Titan and at that point the guy was basically a villain.

Gojo and Saitama are a much better examples of Power Fantasy characters.
