| I'm so happy that my girl Yuriko get to shine on this episode! It's good to see her getting along with the main trio quite nicely, and I even find her quite relatable considering how tired and exhausted she has been had she been exercising & working out for so long. Though I was thinking that Yuriko would've been to be a close friend to Anna, I wouldn't mind Subaru getting along with her as well.  Aww, look how adorable she is! Really great episode, by the way! |

| Lemme say a cast really can suffer from too many characters, but I'm impressed by how distinct a lot of the characters seem at least at the surface so far. Also, I have to say, the animation can be pretty expressive-- which is of course what I often worry about with 3D animation. But no seriously, it doesn't look stiff all the time or anything. I loved Akane's scene in that regard too. Really expressive. And of course, playing Idolmaster it's not a big surprise to see everyone this way so it ends up fitting pretty darn well. It's expressive in the games too, so I really shouldn't be surprised. I guess it's just that switch from game to anime that takes a little getting used to for some. But once one realizes, "This is how a game looks. This is also how an anime can look" then it's fine. I was always kinda meh about Million Live and only really cared about 765 Pro All Stars, but I'm happy to continue and see where they go. Plus, I get little glimpses at Ritsuko here and there, so I can't complain. <33 |
| So, we're properly introduced to Roconization, ほ, Umimi, Subarun, bookworm Yuriko who finally has those fantasy delusions that were missing in the 2014 film, the annoyingly cute Akane, Anna again but in her low energy mode, and Serikawaii. Also, no baseball allowed in the theater. Period. When the Million Live anime was first revealed to be a 3D anime, I wasn't exactly worried, but it did feel weird departing from the highly energetic 2D animation of the 2011 series. That being said, I'm seeing the Million Live anime taking advantage of its 3D models to provide large sweeping camera shots outside of concert scenes. I also like the fuller range of character motions. I've noticed that this particular brand of 3D attempts to emulate 2D art style, where it sort of fakes a 2D aesthetic at times. It also tries to fake 2D animation, where there's a jitteriness between character motions, which is best seen with Akane's antics. I'm kind of reminded of Arcsys games, where their 3D mimics 2D animation by cutting frames, adding blurs for motions, or exaggerating character models to emphasize certain camera angles. I'm seeing some of that here, so I find Million Live's approach interesting in that sense. |
