I know MAL isn't the end all be all of judging popularity, but seeing how the manga has two threads and ~30 chapters out, and the LN only has 2000 ish readers on the site and also minimal activity on the forum, i'm surprised to see this get picked up. Is it common for something that under the radar to be picked up?

I wonder what reasoning there was to animate it. Not hating, just surprised.

It looks promising so far. Pretty excited for this season.

Actually I'm kinda glad it got animated. Story alone looks interesting. Demon Lord reincarnated 1000 years later and the world he knew doesn't exist anymore. As far I can from first episode it's a waste land with maybe few human settlements here and there. So he's going to be a hero? I mean the world is already in ruined because of the Void I think?

It actually got a lot going for it.

MAL literally means nothing.

It's one of the most popular Media Factory bunko series atm in Japan, all popular series from them get anime (ReZero, YouZitsu, Liar Liar, TanMoshi, Gimai Seikatsu, NGNL, Haganai etc). Dunno if we have more recent data, but with 6 volumes out, it was at 350k sales, then with 9 it was at 500k, all before the anime announcement (vol 14 comes out next month).

It's also a easy to market genre, that tends to get anime boost (already showing early signs of this),

Then you also have the obvious giveaway that it was always anime bound as long as it didn't bomb, both the author and the illustrator are popular.

-----

They are truly betting on it hard by releasing a mobile game out of it as well. This isn't as safe of a bet, but yeah, they seem to have big hopes.

@TiagoCosta Ah, this is the imput i was hoping to see. Never would've known it had hit 500k sales overseas.

Awesome to see though. Excited for this for sure

The overall art and character designs are really good.
The character designer is the same character designer as the angle next door spoil me rotten and Higehiro also knows as “Shaved the Beard Then Picked Up a High School Girl.” Which had amazing art too.

@Scootboi they released numbers around vol 13 release which I missed, it was at 2M. Already got pre anime hype/boost on these, still telling tho

In the meantime Author was already celebrating going first on Amazon Jp rankings earlier today, following ep 1 positive reception he says.

@Haigen What you meant is amazing art.
Art =/= Animation

The more complex the art, the design, the harder it is to animate.
All shows you mentionated had really good to great art but barely decent animation at best.

Kimi to Boku no Saigo is another great example, I love the art of that series soo much, but animation for anime was poor.

@TiagoCosta thanks for the input bro. I'm always treading lightly when i see the same story format with nothing unique. What kind of stuff does the story go into if you could say so vaguely?
