Question before starting to read the manga

I recently discovered Mitsuru Adachi after reading the manga Came the Mirror & Other Tales by Rumiko Takahashi and I'm just curious how much do I need to know about baseball before reading this manga. Should I learn the basics or will I be able to enjoy Cross game without knowing anything about baseball?

I read it with just basic cultural knowledge of baseball and enjoyed it very much. I would say no, you don't have to know about baseball first. As long as you know what a homerun is and that three strikes you're out then you should be okay. It was more about the characters than the sport for me though if I remember correctly. Very good series, I was surprised how much it effected me.

Adachi works don't really require much knowledge on any sports to be read, especially with Cross Game which is arguably more of a slice of life manga than a baseball manga. I don't know anything about baseball and I still really enjoyed it so take that as you will.

You don’t really need to be that knowledgeable about baseball to enjoy Cross Game. It’s more of a slice of life with baseball being the setting for most character interactions.
