Well that escalated quickly. In a single episode they reveal both Nanao and Oliver have spellblades and what Oliver's motives are which were barely previously brought up in any way so it's not something easy to see coming to this extent. I actually had to go back in part of the episode because i thought i missed something but I didn't. |

Back after dropping the anime and it gets interesting the very next episode. Barring any drops big drops in quality I think I’ll stick to the end now. Hoping the pace is a bit more consistent going forward though since this episode was very fast and a lot happened compared to the previous 5. |

Whoa, what? 5 episodes and now we get to see not one but TWO spellblades in one episode? 2 Kisses! Oliver's Backstory! That was wild! Super dark turn! Betrayals, and the last part when he named his mother's killers ooooh! I love revenge plots when they're executed well, and this one looks like it's going to be good. |

I knew there was something fishy about the main character but it was so awesome! I didn't/couldn't see the twist coming. I personally never thought he was a jack of all trades. I think he made himself look like that on purpose so he didn't stick out. He was so painfully average and helpful. The latter he used as a cover up. Lastly, when they were in class and the samurai asked MC about the spellblade thing, the answer was too fast and too composed. He didn't sound excited nor intrigued like everyone else so I knew he knew something that he wasn't telling. |

Ok a lot happened in this episode and it did leave me a little confused. The first half with the fight with Vera was good with Nanao being revealed as the 7th spellblade (I was surprised with that as I thought it would've been Oliver but he did inherit his late mom's spelllblade which I think it is the 4th one so both of them have spellblades). The 2nd half of the episode is where I was a bit confused but after reading some comments on this topic I think I understood what happened. Oliver reveals to Darius that he is going to do unto him what he did to his mother and take revenge. Oliver was able to defeat Darius by using his inherited spellblade to find a thread where he is able to defeat Darius and follows it (pretty cool spellblade). After that Oliver tortures and (I think) kills Darius with other people showing up. I have some questions such as who are these people and why was his mom targeted to be killed? Only guess I have for my 2nd question is that Oliver's mom refused to participate in this group's activities which are probably evil. Anyways, that is how I understood this episode. Btw, what about Nanao's kiss?? Hopefully it will be a wet one on the lips if/when it comes... |

I knew something was up and finally it was showed. Oliver has a spellblade and looks like his is on a revenge mission to avenge his mom then got betrayed by the other 5 spellblades. Nano has the 7th spellblade that no one knows about. Interested to see if he tells Nano about her spellblade and recruits her to help him avenge his mom. (I’m a anime only btw) |

I was surprised by this episode, and it immediately reminded me of Nanao's ideology in episode 3. She once mentioned that she longed for 'A battle between two warriors equal in love and honor, not fueled by hatred and vengeance.' And now, everything is intertwined. As if they are bound by destiny, Oliver seems to fight driven by hatred and revenge, while on the other hand, Nanao seeks honor and love in his battles. It wouldn't be surprising if one day they end up facing each other again, whether it's because Nanao wants to stop Oliver's ambitions or because Oliver wants to eliminate Nanao, who holds the potential to halt his ambitions. And it would be really fascinating if we could witness a Spellblade vs. Spellblade showdown. |

To answer your questions: First question: LN Volume 1 cut content: These people are either relatives of Oliver or people raised in the labyrinth by Oliver’s relatives to carry out these assassinations, Teresa being one of them. Second question: LN Volume 5: According to Oliver’s second target, the six of them were working under the headmistress’s orders to kill Chloe Halford (Oliver’s mom) and told Oliver to ask the headmistress about why they tortured Chloe to death. Hopes this answers your questions. |

That was a rather rapid and dramatic shift in direction. That was a very sudden bombshell to drop in a single episode. Definitely lacked foreshadowing. Up until this point, Oliver was portrayed as a sort of slightly above average guy without anything too significant about him besides being intelligent - and now suddenly he's got foresight and the ability to - in some limited capacity - borrow a spellblade? The impression i was getting was that we were going to be spending most of our time developing our cute samurai spellblade girl (whom had plenty of foreshadowing for being a spellblade, i thought it was pretty obvious personally), alongside character development of each individual character of this friend group, as they each find ways to support her or something. I wasn't expecting a whole secret society thing going on with Oliver. It's definitely very cool and interesting overall, but i wish they spent a bit more time setting it up. |

As for your other points, that's what story is going to do with rest of core cast. They will all get their development and limelight. What this episode actually just did expand Oliver's character beyond what you knew about him just as episode 3 did for Nanao when show wasn't as preppy as she looked, but he's the MC so his reveal will have the biggest impact. Loved the battle at the beginning against Vera, it was so well animated and it introduced the Seventh Spellblade, which is wielded by Nanao. Oliver managed to take down Darius as revenge for inflicting pain upon his mom, and becomes the new leader of a cult and swears to take down those who are the enemy, turns out that they are all teachers... We also get introduced to the Fourth Spellblade, wielded by Oliver. Now this is where things get interesting, I can't wait to see what happens next week! |

Being disillusioned about surviving a battle and having lack attachment to life was entirely out of left field. It works because we really don't know anything about her at that point which same for Oliver. You only know what he shows anyone, he's neevr talked about his past outside being mentioned he was orphaned or what reason he even came Kimberly specifically. From the perspective of TV production, this was not good pacing, it was rather jarring; and jarring things like this can turn some people away from the story because it seems like just a bunch of nonsense thrown carelessly at your face all at once; it's awkward. It makes it reek of B-list production because of it's lack of care with that. It's also annoying contrast considering the animation production values we've been having with it (when did JC Staff become ufotable??). I'm not going to sit and argue with a fan of a specific series, when i'm coming from the perspective of someone who writes fiction, studies literary mechanics and pays close attention to things like cinematography. It wasn't bad, it was just clumsy writing. Even if it was written that way in the LN, they should have massaged it a bit for the less flexible tv audience.GenesisAria said: Iron_Maw said: GenesisAria said: Seems like you forgot the very obviously suspicions scenes he been in the previous episodes, particularity last one that was direct foreshadowing what would happen in ep 6, especially when he's had bodyguard sent by his cousin Gwyn following him since episode one (who also just got introduced here). GenesisAria said: Yes, I have read that novel but that has nothing to do with I said. Every point I've made has been using the anime itself. You comment about the acing is just your opinion some viewers think its too fast, other think it is too and there people like me who think its just fine. Moreover to the point, the anime follows the LN pretty closely including how the reveal about Olive happens. You don't seem to understand that your only have hints about the twist not so full on flashback spoiling his purpose. Everything occurred made sense had been touched upon and foreshadowed prior to this episode, if you don't care to pay attention to that its not the show fault. Your one of the few I've seen who seem confused at anything that happened or act like there was no build up (which I just proved wrong) or impacted to what happened.Iron_Maw said: You sound like someone who's read the novel. Not sure why the rating is so low considering how good they made this adaptation. Obviously tons of details have to be skipped since Novels will always have like half their content or more cut, but they really did a good job with this. |

That part of Oliver's automatic tears after seeing how optimistic Katie is despite the hardship she just had gone through. Ufff. I feel ya Oliver. I feel ya. Great scene despite short. Deep yet because of the shortness, appeared shallow. Also only after the end of pf the episode now we can truly understand the context. So we already have two girls in the group that will be Oliver's check and balances on his emotional baggage; probably will be shown later on, also already shown this ep by killing Grenville. |

Well that's unexpected for sure but I gotta say seeing him go all sicko mode to get revenge on the teacher really losses all its impact when we have absolutely zero investment in what's get supposedly getting revenge for. By that logic we should all start reading every book by going to wiki/reddit and reading all the spoilers. "How can I be invested in this murder mystery when I don't even know who killed the guy!?" |

Then you have time to be invested and can root for them and actually feel some catharsis in the revenge taking place (or come to terms with some sort of forgiveness if that's where it goes). This was a hard cut to the MC being a crazy cult leader and murdering some teacher that has had a total of 5 minutes screentime over killing a character with a collective 30 seconds of screentime. Your argument is illogical.ProofByColor said: We extra edgy now boys and girls. Your one of the few I've seen who seem confused at anything that happened or act like there was no build up (which I just proved wrong) or impacted to what happened.Iron_Maw said: GenesisAria said: Iron_Maw said: That could just mean he's got a wealthy family that has some servants - not part of a whole ass mafia. It was just a lot to drop very suddenly. That hardly counts as foreshadowing honestly. Nanao has plenty of foreshadowing, and to the point where being informed she's a spellblade is hardly surprising.GenesisAria said: Seems like you forgot the very obviously suspicions scenes he been in the previous episodes, particularity last one that was direct foreshadowing what would happen in ep 6, especially when he's had bodyguard sent by his cousin Gwyn following him since episode one (who also just got introduced here). Its build up as much as could without spoiling the whole thing because your supposed to be surprised by his actions. Everything you knew about Oliver is supposed to turned on its head. Except Chela and Andrews are wealthy noble families everyone knows of and they have nobody shadowing them. Darius even mentions an epidermis ago that never even heard of clan called Horn. I'm not seeing how this case at all. All we knew about Nanao's past before ep 3 was that she came from a samurai clan. Its clear show was very much hinted there something more to him than just being and jack of all trades with a plea sent personality hell the fact he knew waay more than other first years was also added to sus. In layman's terms, i can summarize how it ruined the impact: "omg she's the spellblade nobody knows about this changes everything!!" "jk i secretly had one all along too i just didn't tell anyone, and am actually kind of op, so it's whatever" If it was at least spaced out and not so sudden it wouldn't be so awkward and silly. i'm not usually a critic of pacing. Vast majority of the time i'm the one arguing against unnecessary sensitivity to pacing. Everything else about the show has been pretty great, although a bit whimsical - our chars seem to get thrown into a lot of bloodthirsty people pretty randomly - my only complaint was that was an awkward self-defeating double hit that took the edge off the impact of the reveal. If i were doing the production here, i'd have had the Oliver reveal on a following episode at least, not the same. If the LN revealed it as suddenly without any extra clues or pieces of info you could pick up on rewatch, then it was not a good twist. You should research the psychology of twists lol. A twist should be surprising but also not surprising when you think about it. When you are going to pull trump cards as well, you spend some time building up the anticipation, even if it's only like a minute or so. If his mother(? if i recall correctly) was a spellblade, they should have revealed that first, and then been like, but wait, he figured out how to use it sometimes too! damn! Instead of just "Oh yeah ur dead... btw i have spellblade, get rekt nerd kthxbai (but it might kill me because that's edgy). . . oh yeah mom was a spellblade btw and that's why omae wa mou shindeiru." I just hope the rest of the show returns back to half-decent writing and doesn't do that again. I've been intrigued to the point i want this show to be solid and enduring, instead of just another messy story that happens to have great animation. Keep in mind it's still a tentative 8 for me. |

Oliver's true nature has been revealed. This anime keeps getting exciting and exciting. Nanao is just a badass. She's intense in every fight which makes her a formidable. Oliver's mother backstory was really tragic. Though the teachers at Kimberly were involved, the one who Oliver should be plotting revenge is Esmeralda who for some reason reminds me of Esdeath. I wanna see Oliver get his revenge on the teachers. I don't want it to become where he kills the guys but leaves the girls cause in anime you rarely see a guy hitting or killing a girl. We don't need that. I wanna see him exact his revenge and kill those teachers. |

ProofByColor said: Who says you're supposed to feel cathartic over Oliver's revenge tho? That's not point of reveal nor is necessary to know anything more about Darius other then he relates to Oliver. The end of goal of scene is not for you to put yourself in his shoes but explain Oliver's purpose for being at Kimberly at all. So the nonsense about screentime or forgiveness or whatever is meaningless. You talking like you know everything now when the whole point about how little you know Oliver and this just start of the conflict brewing underneath the story. Basically can't judge a book by its cover and that goes as much of the setting as much as the characters.durask said: The thing that actually makes a revenge story interesting is if you've been given at least some time to see the character before the event that set them on their revenge conquest. Vera "Snake-Eye" Miligan vs. Oliver and Nanao, it's going to be an epic battle. Oliver had the upper hand against Vera, though Nanao had her swordplay to assist to make a formidable tag team together. But against the enchanted snake eyes, Nanao's sword just happened to be faster than the speed of light, though that surprises Oliver that she is able to defeat Vera in that quick of a stance. That could only foretail the existence of a spellblade, and Nanao is the 7th Spellblade. Sure, Vera was looking after Katie on good terms, but that all changed when the communication between her and the troll worked out. And yeah sure, Katie gave a kiss to both Oliver and Nanao, though she's just reliant on the issue to resolve. Darius Grenville needing Oliver's help in deducing Vera's research results about demi-humans, he is more than just the magical biology teacher who needs help in his work. More so, Oliver's hatred for Darius since the death of his mother, this one-on-one match will decide the vengeful battle for the revenge upon him, especially with his Angustaiva Spellblade to reach the future that liveed and passed onto him, inflicting the same exact 128 forms of torture from years back. With the deed to end Darius's life, his siblings come to Gwyn and Shannon Sherwood come to dawn the new age of Oliver as Noll with the icomic mask, to kill all those who have slain his mother. What a twist, an explosive one that changes the game. |

Well, this school(not sure anymore if it's the correct term but still) isn't only filled with abnormal students, it's also a den of ABNORMAL AS HECK teachers too. I mean what's with seven of them ganging up on a lone lady and brutally killing her afterwards?? Also yeah that lady being main's mother.. so it's another "I'll take my revenge" story, the ever hot-stuff in market. |

Very tightening episode. On one hand, I completely understand Oliver, on other - yes, they all killed his mother, it is unforgivable, but killing them CAN'T RETURN HIS MOTHER BACK TO LIFE. Poor Oliver. |

If I wanted to watch leftist propaganda I'd go an watch literally anything from hollywood today. I watch anime to rebel against the powerful leftist elites who took over the west. Not to surround myself with the same propaganda that has destroyed western culture. |

I finally made it! It feels like a long journey through the absolute slog that was the first 5 episodes of this series. The reveal of the revenge plot and all of the edge that came with it was quite enjoyable. I hope this series continues with the same approach that was shown in the highlights of this episode. Though, the moments between the larger scale events were still really hard to watch. Surely dude isn't going back to the model student getting kisses on the cheek after "the power of friendship" speeches, or "troll rights,' speeches, or whatever other nonsense these characters are spitting back and forth to each other. I have hope, though admittedly, it is just a small vial of hope. |
