Will i understand the movie if i only watched season 1?

I didn’t continue watching season 2 bc i didn’t like where the plot was going, but then i saw this new movie is currently playing at cinemas in my country and felt intrigued as some ppl say that it’s second only to season 1.

Any thoughts?

definitely not, this movie is a prequel to season 3 and takes place in between the Sinners Of The System film trilogy and season 3, this movie follows up on a lot of plot threads and characters you will either feel completely lost by or not care much about without context from at least everything up to the last Sinners Of The System movie (preferably you should have watched season 3 too though as imo it is more satisfying that way as this movie answers a lot of questions season 3 raised with it being a prequel and all)

I'd definitely recommend you to watch at least season 2 and sinners of the system trilogy. Watched it from there with 2 of my friends who haven't watched the anime at all, they were completely lost with no interest as much, even myself felt lost at times, felt like there were some clear indications of references to season 3 one way or another, but definitely time line wise you will want to have watched season 2 and the sinners trilogy so you don't get lost. Enjoyable movie enough but I feel they should definitely re iterate to watch previous seasons as I was left more questions then answers, since I haven't watched season 3 (tried watching much of the anime from 2 weeks before the cinema release in my country lol)

i don't think so, this movie connects the dots between season 2 and season 3.. some characters in the movie was introduced in season 2 as well..
