The whole mystery and allure to this woman who's in paintings of several artists appearing in their dreams was ...interesting, until it lead to nothing... which was disappointing, since it lacks any clear meaning.

One man obsessed to find her since his grandfather tattoo'd her onto his back, yearning for her so much to the point of using others to lead them there and attempt to kill them to be alone with her, believing he's somehow worthy of being her partner or whatever- until he meets her, dies as she literally comes out through him, meets the protagonist who drew her ...and rejects him with "You... not you."
... What the fuck. So, in the end there's no point in the end, since the drawings don't even give a hint to what she wants which makes the story feel meaningless without that answer that could have been at least easier to hypothesize, but there's no indication of that. 4/10.

Well, well, I've also seen all of Munch's Madonnas. The drawing is good, the plot is too outdated. It looks like an illustrated story from the 30s or manga one-shot from the 70s.

Plot seems influenced by Cossette no Shouzou, but the visuals are amazing

Es la idea lo atractivo esta en el misterio la gran incognita ,el protagonista era un expectador en la historia nunca protagonista realmente

So...why in the first place? That art's good though.

An otherworldly being uses artists across the ages in a bid to be created/incarnated. As we move towards the end the plot gets progressively more symbolic and the diabetic reality is de-emphasized as we step into the supernatural.

So I believe we are meant to read the whole thing as a metaphor primarily.

  • The woman symbolizes the artwork.
  • The painter is the artist.
  • The collector is the audience. (You could also make a case for the medium, as he is being tattooed.)

And the story tries to tell us something about their relationship or the nature of art or something to that effect.
Sadly as everything gets a bit obtuse I can not quite discern a concrete message.

  • Maybe we got a Pygmalion motive here (falling in love with your own art).
  • Maybe we have a representation of "la mort de l'auteur" in the collector assaulting the artist.
  • Maybe it was something about losing ownership of your art or personal feelings about toxic fandoms instead.
  • Maybe there is a statement about the audience needing the artist as a facilitator (the collector can "never look at her directly")
  • Maybe there is a platitude about the art being greater than the artist (the woman growing gigantic).
  • Maybe it is all the above and the metaphor is overloaded.
  • Maybe it is just meant to be up for interpretation. Throwing us vague smoke and mirrors so we do the artists legwork instead.

The symbolism and mysticism prevents the story from wrapping cleanly. Not quite on the nose enough for me to construct something definitive in the last pages.

I don't like the "You... not you." line in particular. It is very muddy and indecisive and uses ellipsis like teenage poetry in a very crucial moment, just begging us to substitute our own material in the unspoken...

6/10 or 7/10
It placed the game pieces quite well and clean and I appreciate that (7), but then botches the message delivery (6).

Very art, much deep.

it was quite intriguing but it left me unsatisfied. The ending felt too abrupt.
