Decent episode, but isn't Black Jack being written inconsistently? He's been portrayed as intractable about his high fees from the start, but he's been doing an awful lot of free operations lately. Why is he inspired to be generous here but not on other occasions when a person simply needs their life to be saved?

I find that a bit odd as well though maybe he's just slowly changing? To be fair, in this case it was for a close acquaintance and the previous one was for an animal which was basically abandoned by the zoo so it's not like he could've made any money out of it. At that point he had already taken an interest in the case and Pinoko was nagging the hell out of him.

Dam this episode was unexpectedly depressing ;_; First the guy loses his arms and then his best friend (who ironically was the reason he lost his arms) loses his life by saving a baby from a burning building : / Really surprised how he forgave and even became best friends with him. It seems the fella was a really good guy and truly regretted causing the accident. Shame that he died :(

A lot of the time he seems to just use the money as a test. Maybe he just tells the people gives a break to let him keep the reputation.

the transplant was just stupid, but the episode in it's entirety was really touching.

A bittersweet ending. I really did expect Black Jack to save the sushi chef’s arms and then the guy.

How was it stupid? Black Jack performs some feats that are impossible to replicate.
