One of my pet peeves in romance animes is the rival love interest confessing their feelings even though they KNOW that they're going to be rejected. It's fine if they can't gauge how the person feels about them and want to try their hand at confessing to see if their feelings are mutual. But if you know that the person doesn't like you and you're still going to confess just for the sake of confessing and getting rejected, what even is the point of that? Is it just so you can relieve yourself of these emotions? Is this really worth making things awkward between you two? |

Sometimes it's better to get rid off these feelings rather than having the regret of not being able to tell early & keep waiting Once it really starts bugging you, you won't be able to get free of these feelings until unless you get a proper answer for it that's why even if you get rejected, just being able to tell how you felt for a person and getting an answer is worth it if you genuinely had feelings for a particular person |

It's a realistic situation and feeling that's hard to explain, and I guess difficult to understand unless you've experienced it firsthand. It's never easy to watch whether you've experienced it or not, but for different reasons. As someone who has experienced it before, I did not enjoy the scene but I appreciated it being there |

Let's take a moment to appreciate how you pointed this out even though I ALREADY acknowledged this in my post. Confessing for the sake of taking weight off your shoulders is always the same reasoning used in situations like this. It's getting a bit tiresome. Again, they already KNOW that they have no chance, so couldn't they just try to reflect on that realization without saying anything and messing up the relationship they have? Why cause this unnesecesary conflict? Most of the times, the only purpose of these scenes is to spur the protagonist to realize their feels to the MAIN love interest What's even worse are situations where they confess even though they know the person already likes someone or is in a relationship already. Like gurl, silence is golden |

A completely necessary scene! "Awww, they confessed their heart out and got rejected even though they already knew that was going to happen but they still did it anyway to relieve them of their emotions like all of the hundreds of rival love interests reasoned before. This makes me elicit some sort of emphatic feelings for them even though that scene has been overdone by now and it would be a nice change of pace if they just moved on from their love silently" |

It’s called closure. Brains are weird things. Like. Even if you know the answer, your brain won’t let it go unless you actually say it. It will eat at you and eat at you and several years later you will still wonder. And. Like. For this instance here. I think it might help Yamada a little bit. You see. All the other girls that liked him seemed to only like him for his looks and didn’t really get to know him. This shows him that more than one girl can actually look past his good looks and admire his personality. Like yeah. It did give way to an awkward moment and some drama. But it did good for both of the characters. Also. It takes something that could have caused more trouble for their friendship by keeping that secret between them. Something like that could explode down the line with more irrational anger and drama, or it could cause an awkward rift between them. With the closure it gives both characters either a chance to start again as just friends or to drift apart on peaceful terms. Or. That’s how I see it anyway. Also. In a story perspective. If she didn’t confess at that point, this would have become a story loose end that the creator would have had to do something with in the future. But closing it here shows great growth in Yamada’s character and shows that he now can kindly give a rejection instead of earlier when he was cold to every girl that confessed. So. On top of a human reason for this scene, it also has a plot and character growth purpose for the story in general. |
