Welcome To Holo Interviews. The #1 Interviews Club in the world! To share their story with us; with an epic ramble unlike anything you've ever seen. Is an epic man who does not hold back and tells it like it is. Please welcome @Ganji-MEX Tell us a little bit about yourself Well, here we go. Time for some introductions and shit. the name’s ganji. also known as: etmont, ren, greenlanternmunchy, mexico knight, stampydodgers, gerardomo, dynamitegoofy, kuruga, genji, and a LOT of other usernames I forgot. child me couldn’t decide what to use. I'm a weird guy with a knack for weird things. I don’t do much with my life, besides having a job and hoping that I'm able to get a better pc to become a vtuber at one point. Never had much ambitions with my life really, I just sorta did and do the best i could to move on. still got high grades tho B) I do edibles (they make u feel real good tbh. trust me doing weed is pog), I sorta wander around the internet doing shit, I love watching obscure anime and reading obscure manga (I'm the only haruka 17 and sora yori takaku fan out there!!!) I also want a mad head from a 5’9 latina goth girl because I’m silly and wacky (I’m actually dead af inside so like. yeah. you get the point) Sometimes i think about what to do in the future. i know that it’s uncertain, but i hope that the best ends up happening. I'm fully aware that i’ve done some bad things in the past, but I keep reminding myself that it’ll probably get better soon. While I'm not a religious person or anything like that, life means a lot to me, even if it’s pointless. i find enjoyment in doing simple things, like this interview! or sleeping! or just doing anything in general! while those things may be utterly pointless, there’s a sense of fulfillment after accomplishing something that makes me happy, and those could help me in the future. At the end, i’m just a regular guy who tries to do his best everyday. remember, if you do ONE single thing that makes you happy, you’re living your life the best as you can. even if it’s shit, even if it’s garbage, remember that there’s people who like you. people who want to talk with you. people who appreciate you. Bonds are something that everyone should value, and while it might sound very cheesy, friends are a power that shouldn’t be messed with. So yeah, I'm like really boring af lol What is the meaning behind your username? There’s not much gist to it. 13 year old me saw this specific image of meta knight Then I was like “wow. I must make that shit my pfp RIGHT NOW!” I named myself Mexico knight, decided to keep the mex part because I thought it sounded cool as fuck (I hate it now btw). That’s where the MEX part comes from. I plan to remove it at one point and replace it with something else, since I'm not Mexican at all (I'm from Venezuela so yeah kekw) The Ganji part was just me brainrotting on overwatch when it came to me that i should’ve made my username genji. mistyped it as ganji, that’s where I got my name from. Rest is history. How did you get into anime and manga? Child me watched Digimon xros wars back in 2012, that changed everything. I LOVED Digimon to death, more than Pokemon. I tried to watch all of it, cartoon network having a weird schedule for it didn’t help, and I never actually ended up watching it. Now, i didn’t truly get onto the medium up until 2018, where I started watching some Makoto Shinkai movies because i was bored. Friend of mine invited me to watch Trinity Seven somewhere around early 2019, and that’s when I truly got onto the medium. I started watching seasonals somewhere around 2021? wasn’t really sure what i really wanted since I liked watching more “niche” shows since i didn’t like mainstream animes (dragon ball, naruto, sword art online, death note, etc.), I wanted to watch more obscure shows because i wanted to see what anime had for me, and i expected anime to give me gems that would stick with me and help me be a little bit less bored. that still sticks to me with this day, with 330+ days in manga and 200+ days in anime, I still try to find shows that are obscure and deserve more attention. it’s fun. What are some of your favorite shows and who are your favorite characters/waifus? I think that my favorites tell enough from me. I love obscure stuff. basically: - Legend of galatic heroes - yeah, i know what you’re thinking. “this guy is an elitist lmao”. nah, i just really like LOTGH. aria is tied with this one for my favorite anime, but i think that LOTGH is better on a objective sense. LOTGH does great in all of it’s aspects, it’s meant to be a more political slow-paced show, where EVERYONE gets atleast one moment to shine. I think that’s what makes LOTGH so great, despite the large cast, everyone gets a decent amount of characterization, not relying on a exact “this is the bad guy and this is the good guy” moral compass, both reinhard and yang can be villains and heroes depending on your point of view, they have different morals and ideas that both make them human, genuinely wanting to cheer for both even if you know that someone is going to lose. that’s what makes this show so great, it genuinely makes you question your worldview, it’s a cool space show anyways so you can just watch it for the bodyguard dudes with giant axes killing each other. cool stuff - Getter robo - now here’s one that’s a bit more obscure. getter robo is like. gurren lagann’s older brother. ken ishikawa created the perfect mecha series in my opinion, and armageddon shows. does it slow down on the first half? there’s no ryoma or hayato, but i liked it a lot. it serves a purpose, to slow down the pacing a bit as you get prepared for the mindfuck of the last few episdoes. Now, Armageddon is a great show. it’s self-contained, and you can binge it anytime you want. the manga is good too, it’s much more different than armageddon, specially on the artstyle. i like the manga and all, but armageddon is where the real experience is at. it’s a tribute to ishikawa himself, making small nods to all of his manga while creating the best storyline of his most famous work, all with a incredibly bittersweet ending that sets up a intriguing small lore that could’ve been explored in getter robo arc. Sadly, the guy died before being able to wrap this up, and i think that’s the most sad part. getter robo arc will never be properly finished, and all of the potential storytelling we could’ve seen, the epic final battle and the conclusion to this amazing story will never come to be, but i think that what we got in armageddon is a great closure to the franchise, even if it’s bittersweet ken ishikawa is a great artist, and getter robo is his lil’ masterpiece. you should read the getter robo manga before watching armageddon (or atleast watching new getter robo) to get a full grasp on what awaits you. trust me. - Aria - If you’ve been on myanimelist for a while, aria fans are surprisingly common around here. you know what aria is about. sci-fi iyashikei show, italian stuff happens, cats, lots of cats. What IS there to say about this show? it’s a masterpiece slice of life. words cannot say how much impact this show had ony my general taste on anime as a whole, as I watched this alongside fullmetal alchemist brotherhood (guess which one i ended up liking more.) I believe that this one this holds up to this day. it’s everything i love about anime. i don’t even have to say it, this is a show YOU experience. this is not a show you describe by words, this is a show you feel. this is something you watch while you drink your coffee in the morning. it’s the perfect iyashikei, and that’s why i love it. - Kochikame - tbh. i’m surprised that this series has barely any translations. it’s available on a decent amount of languages (spanish and portuguese are there), and this series doesn’t need much logic to be understood. Kochikame is a very simple series. ryotsu is a underpaid officer, and he usually does schemes to get money. now, the whole series isn’t about that. sometimes ryotsu and the kameari police box do more daily life stuff like celebrating buchou’s birthday or just slacking off and dealing with the weird residants of kameari. The series is great. every episode has atleast made me laugh once, and it always leaves me happy. what i think that makes this series so great is the diverse cast of characters that is reminiscent of a american sitcom. if you’re tired of seeing high school comedies, then you should read kochikame. all of the main characters are older than 28, and all are genuinely fun characters. There is genuinely not much to say about this series, it’s not one i can word properly because it’s so simple, yet so effective. kochikame IS funny. kochikame has great characters. kochikame never gets boring, because the series switches from simple formulas that make every episode fun to watch and binge, whetever it might be just a regular day at the kameari police box, ryotsu trying to gain some quick cash or the antics that these silly police people have, it doesn’t ever get boring (for me), but then again i love slice of life series so much so that could be some sort of bias lmao. Definitely worth the 376 episodes. it’s like gintama but for japanese boomers. - Ojamajo doremi - in my opinion, this is my weirdest favorite. this series stands out a lot JUST because i’m 99% this is a children’s show. sure, you could argue that getter robo and kochikame are made for a shonen audience (aria too but like. who cares lmao), but this is literally a show made for lil’ toddlers (girls, to be specific.) Doremi, to put it simply is a show about growing up. what impresses me is that these girls go from grade to drae every seasonn. it creates a bond between the viewer and the series, just seeing doremi and her friends grow up as you go through each season enjoying every moment while learning some valuable lessons (or atleast knowing why yam make you fart lmao) has a genuine sense of charm of it. Heck, even the production has love put onto it. the vas fit the background of most of the characters, the series looks beautiful and while it might have a more unconventional art style that the average shonen gubbler isn’t used to (it’s a average shojo artstyle), it has a more cartoonish, american vibe that is nice to see, characters are draw in a way that doesn’t make them have those weird shoujo chins or those weird giant, slender hands. it’s nice to see a shojo series that has a artstyle that i can genuinely enjoy without me pointing at the problems previously mentioned. I'm not gonna spoil the surprises for the story, this is a show you experience much like aria. for characters… ehhh. I think that Nao Egokoro from yttd is pretty as fuck (I love short women) I think that Takeshi Hongo from Kamen Rider is THE hero of all time. I fucking love him I think that Kankichi Ryotsu is the best shonen jump mc. He’s so dumb and skimbo, I love him. I think that Lappland from Arknights is the best gacha waifu. She is so mentally ill i love her I think that Kokonoe is the best video game waifu. Love this scientist bitch so much y’all have no idea. And Ryoma Nagare is literally me. Love him so fucking much it’s surreal (also my favorite mc of all time) What do you think are the most overrated and underrated anime or manga/LN's? Personally, i think that more people should check out more obscure titles that are right there. I know that mangas like aoi honoo and shuujin riku aren’t accessible to everyone (i read aoi honoo using a translator and am currently reading shuujin riku in french which i can understand perfectly fine), but c’mon. Full ahead coco? That manga is fully translated, and it’s honestly great. If people thought that one piece was unique for having a pirate theme, coco did this a few months before one piece started publishing. now, i don’t think that coco is better than one piece. one piece has a style that’s more eyecandy, and has a anime adaptation. Coco doesn’t have any of that. most covers are kinda ugly looking, and the art can be a bit rough on the edges on the first few chapters. besides that, i think that the manga is great. it has a nice story, it has a great cast, the art increases in quality through the series, and it has a nice ending that left me satisfied. this is fully translated onto english, and I'm surprised it doesn’t have a niche cult following like hyouge mono does. Hyouge Mono? yeah, that too is underrated. both anime and manga. i’ll give it to you that the manga isn’t fully translated, but c’mon. it atleast has a active translation releasing a chapter every week. the anime is fully watchable and c’mon. it’s the best historical anime out there imo. I think that this series is great, for doing a perfect balance of comedy and drama that doesn’t make it seem out of place. furuta is a great character, that works perfectly on this series. sure, he’s a lil’ weirdo obssesed with tea and all, but he is surprisingly human. he doesn’t want to kill anyone, he doesn’t want to do all of this war bullshit. he just sorta wants to be a tea connoiseur and move on with his life. The anime ends on a surprisingly tear-jerking part of the manga (which is a good ending on it’s own), but the manga has way more content to digest. the production of the anime is kinda fucked up (mangaka and director left in the first few episodes, the dude who made the first opening was caught doing cocaine i think?), but it somehow still delivered a great series that i consider to be bee media’s best thing ever. they surely made a great farewell to the world with this one. Any anime opinions that would be deemed controversial? *ahem.* I do not like 90% of mainstream shonen and seinen. It’s not that i dislike them for being popular, just that Punpun? yeah. it’s fine. this shit is pretentious and never gets anywhere, and it’s just trying to suck sympathy out of me for punpun. Problem with this manga: it feels to pretentious and shallow. most of the commentary here is “i fucking hate my life” and “i want my life to be better”, all that filled with hardcore elements that aren’t needed to get the point across (punpun losing his virginity with the bad bitch who i kinda forgot about, the uncle’s whole backstory, Aiko killing herself because she didn’t gave punpun a sloppy mad head, the ending that doesn’t make any sort of sense). I don’t hate it, but I don’t get why it’s ranked so highly. kokou no hito does what this manga does a LOT better, without having to rely on being overly edgy and having to add “omg this guy had sex and then her bitch killed herself!” The rest is just sorta me finding most things boring and pointless. SNK? even more pretentious than punpun, literally the walking dead of anime. also overhyped as fuck, levi is the most boring support character on existance, and the rumbling is unironically so garbage. Kaguya-sama? it ain’t that funny. sure, a few jokes land but it’s not as funny as something like heybot or kochikame (which i talked about in my favorites section), and the ending was also garbage. not like this series has much on going for it, after volume 11 the series became awful as hell tbh. we want to talk about kaguya doesn’t help that much, it’s basically a generic 4koma that doesn’t have the charm of the first few volumes. Bocchi? it’s good? like. it’s good. it’s just good. there’s not much i want to say here, bocchi is a good anime. i don’t like bocchi that much (ryou is the best character in the series prove me wrong) Chainsaw Man? I don’t see the problem with the anime, it’s the exact same thing as the manga. the so called slow pacing is the same, the “weird” story is also there, it’s a good adaption of a boring series overall. i don’t understand the hype surrounding it. sure, it does something new for WSJ (which is needed since most series just get axed and don’t live for long), but at the same time… what’s the point? is it just meant to be schizo dump: the manga? i don’t hate chainsaw man, just that if it were published in a magazine like big comic spirits, young jump or young magazine, the hype would be absolutely non-existant. What kind of music are you into in general, and do you have any favorite Anime OST's I'm pretty much onto everything ngl. I like vaporwave, math rock, j-indie rock, dreamcore, breakcore, lo-fi, jazz, classic music, champeta (shoutouts to all my latino homies out there), list goes on for a bit. idk i have weird taste in music ngl now for anime osts; ~ i think that the flcl ost is peak. the pillows is a great band, and their songs never fail to make me smile. ~ for more general anime osts, kochikame, gintama, getter robo (Heroism is so fucking awesome), the persona series (it counts technically speaking), nichijou and aria come to mind. all equally good, perfect to set up the mood. not much to say here, honestly. Outside of anime, what other interests do you have and like to do for fun? I like tokusatsu shows. I think that they’re neat, and after watching 200+ days of anime, I needed something different in my life. You should watch Kamen Rider kuuga btw it’s peak. I also like cooking. i love making my own lunch while my parents just sorta do their thing? it’s hard to explain but i usually cook on the weekends (it’s mostly simple foods like pasta and stuff like that). gives it a lil’ bit more comfort feeling y’know? I also fucking love roleplay!!!!!! graaaah I love writing characters from media I love into mundane situations that make me happy as hell all while having a community of weirdos who love doing the same shit i do. Besides being a weirdo on the internet, i have a job at a convenience store. i usually clean up the store and sometimes help out customers and shit. not too stressing, i get paid decently and i get to do free things while i wait for people to finish their shopping. i like living a simple life, so i honestly don’t expect to go to college or something. not that i don’t want to, just that i don’t have any real goals or plans in my life, just get married, have some children and die. it’s better that way. You have Calli (Mori Calliope) listed in your favorites. Are you into V-Tubers or just Calli? I just have calli because her songs are lit tbh. Same reason why I have daft punk in my favorite, their songs go hard as fuck in general and i usually like using them as background noise. I’m sorta into VTubers, actually. I’m friends with Evie Crowe (cool VTuber, check out her channel now or I will brutally skin you alive). I don’t openly simp for any of them because I think that concept is stupid. imo ii’d rather keep my 600$ rather than donating them to a girl who only says “hi, thank u for donating honey~ mhwa :3” I like streamers more than vtubers, doesn’t stop vtubers from being entertaining every now and then. sad that most of their streams start at midnight for me and i’m not willing to stay up that late for most vtubers. I like to keep my sleeping schedule nice even if i’m writing this at like 3:00 am kekw If you could live in the world of an anime you've seen or manga you've read, which would it be and why? Now THIS. Now this is a funny question. No offense, but i’d like to live in one of the more simpler worlds. aria works, I'd certainly love to live in neo-venezia after retiring. Seems like my sort of place. sure, it’s full of water but it’s just a general comfort place, and nothing really happens. there’s also not much to say here too. I mean, japanese society is very fucked up, work culture too. Atleast i can slack every now and then and do things with my free time, Japanese people can’t even get that. Anything you would like to say to our readers? I think that y’all cool as fuck. it’s nice to get interviewed, let’s me express myself a bit more than I usually do tbh. Remember, stay cool. life might be hard for y’all and i get it. we all love escapism but sometimes, we have to grow up and confront reality. that’s what makes us human. if you don’t confront reality, then what are you anyways? Apologies if most of this is just a epic ramble, wrote this at midnight to give it a more personal look lol |
